I have this problem as well; my left rib sticks out. This has never bothered me until my left side began to hurt. I've been trying to find out what the problem is, and I'm going to see a professional soon. I do not want to go through surgery as it seems to be a painful and possibly dangerous procedure. I have also heard of using corsets and braces to move the ribcage back, but I do not want to have to wear a brace every day for the next couple years either. I hope that possibly my bones may continue to grow and perhaps correct themselves. I am 16 years old.

Hello.I have the same problem and I'm bodybuilder.I had this problem since I was 13-14 years old, and It happened because I had bad posture habbits. With the years it corrected itself to some degree, but I still have this problem.
Now I'm 24 years old and I have lordosis and kiphosys, results from 8-10 hours under computer everyday.
I don't know to what degree it affect my posture and my bodybuilding efforts, carriera.I guess it affects the posture, because the ribcage itself server to help keep shoulder blades in place.
It is most noticable when I lie in my bed.
Oh and I had Email correspondence with Eric Cressey and He told me to not worry, my condition trainer too.
For example with chest exercises you must expand your ribcage - Chest Flyes, Presess Dumbells, I don't have idea how it affect exercises.
I think you must be consern about how the deformed ribcage or ribs on the left side affect scapula position.

hi i have sort of the same problem but its on my lower right ribs.the left side is fine and looks normal but on the lower right ribs there is an obvious dip and a protrusion under the dip that u can see and feel almost as if a rib is behind another pushing it out .i also noticed a popping feeling in that area when i move a certain way followed by a quick sharp pain ,the right side pops too but theres no pain and no dip and protrusion.i dont think i could have broken or fractured them without noticing it .im a 17 y/o female.i was chunky most of my life until i recently lost 50lbs and noticed the abnormality and thought it might have to do with the occasional sharp pains i felt in that area.none of my friends ribs look like this and i dont know if its normal or not, does anybody have this on the right side too?

i figure many people have this disorder, most people are in fact right handed, school desks are often designed anti-ergonomically. using computers could again also cause such a disorder.

people have only adapted handwriting, and furthermore computers quite recently.

it stands to reason there are major flaws in all the tasks ive mentioned.

I have exactly the same problem word for word and its affected me for as long as i remember, i went to my doctors and they just offered surgery if it hurt however i went to my physio and i have been diagnosed with scoliosis which is curvature of the spine which is why my ribs stick out, if you are worried then maybe check out this option and you can have massges or corsets etc to straighten out your spine and improve it :-) hope this helps x

I have a similar issue. I went to a childrens doctor, as i am only 14, and he diagnosed me with pectus caranatum. This is a protrusion of a breast bone or an abnormal growth. My pectus grows outward. He says this is why my lower left rib is sticking out, almost coming to a point. He customized a brace for me to wear which will push my pectus down and my rib down, to try and guide the growth. The brace is worn underneath clothing, but it is quite nagging. I am supposed to wear mine for 16 hours a day, but i do otherwise.

Hi,

I went to a new doctor for a physical. She noted a pronounced protrusion of my ribs on my left side. She asked if I ever broke my ribs and/or had scoliosis...I know I've bruised my ribs in the past and was never diagnosed with Scoliosis but have noted a slight unevenness in my shoulders. Also, my son has Scoliosis. She ordered an xray of my left side of chest and ribs. Does anyone know if Scoliosis can be detected on xrays of these areas? I thought they usually xrayed your back for Scoliosis. Also, what else could cause this protrusion?

Thanks.

Cool! Physiotherapists are the best! If anyone ever has problems with muscle, bone or joints then you should see a Physio :-)

i also have the same problem, but I had recently gone to a chiropractor as it was starting to effect my back, and my back started giving me problems. The chiropractor then took x-rays and noticed that my hip was an inch off from The other one, and noticed the same thing in my one of my legs. At first I thought it was due to the cartilage from playing sports, and I still think that. But anyway I did some research and came across something called hip dysplasia, I too am very puzzled about this and it has been starting to effect my body, and my hips crack when I do legs raises for ab excrsise. I am 27 now and still don't know what the cause is. The doctor said I was born like that. Another said it was the cartilage in the rib cage, Tge chiropractor said my hip was out of place. And am wondering if there is any type of surgery or cure for this because I now cannot even sit straight for more then 5 minutes. Any feedback is helpful

wow, i didnt realize that so many other people had this problem, it doesnt bother me so much until people point it out and touch it. im really self-conscious about it. i heard from my doctor that the only way to fix it is to break it. i dont really wanna do that, i hope this corset thing works...
