i have the same problem, i spoke to my (gp) and they ae no issue if they dnt cuase any pain, you can get them removed or wait until they move back into place.

they are caused from "growing up" as your abdominal muscles start to form and rip your ribs start to shape into them.

i have  had this problem for years and i have  grown into them but it still looks like i have a broken rib.

and lads its a great thing to tell a girl "ive broke one of my ribs but it doesn't hurt" don't be ashamed  about it!

USE IT WHILE YOU CAN!!!

good luck

Similar to few initial posts, I am also having this problem of lower left rib enlargement. It is there since my childhood. Earlier I used to be slim so it was more prominently visible. Now I have gained little fat so it is not that prominent. But when I lie down then I can clearly notice it. However, since so many people are there with the similar problem so I hope that this is not serious.

Well my ribs are horrible. Always been a chubby girl with weight issues but the first time I lost a lot of weight is when I discovered my disgusting rib shape. Honestly I don't know how or why this happens to people. I literally have 2 pointy triangles protruding directly underneath my breasts. Because I am not busty they used to stick out more then my boobs, which is just ridiculous. Million times worse when lying down and I can always feel them stabbing into bras, when I lay down at night to sleep, if I rest my arms on my torso, there's always a constant reminder of these 2 useless "triangles" ruining my day.

I wan't the pointy bits gone, I'm over it. I dunno what can be done but I just wish the surgeons could cut off the extra 'growth' or whatever the hell it is. However I doubt it could ever be so simple. Maybe telling the doctors ill be a suicidal risk if they can't fix it will help lol just kidding.... kinda

My 13 year-old daughter has the same problem; we have seen several specialists and they have recommended an orthotic brace - which will push the flared rib back into position over time (like dental braces). It should take about 9 months; with retainers for later on. Dr Haje from Brazil (now deceased but with his foundation continuing his treatment) pioneered this approach (with specialist exercises and breathing techniques). Look it up on google, there are practitioners in the USA and Europe (we're in the UK). Hope everything comes together for you.

I have the exact same problem: left side, just out farther; looks abnormal. I can't wear tight clothing because it looks like I'm smuggling a knife into someplace

I know this topic is a bit older. However, I am having similar problems... On the lower left rib cage, in between my side and middle of stomach I have a knot probably about the size of a small fist. I went to the doc today because I thought it was my spleen enlarged from mono I had at the end of July roughly 2 months ago. When I went he felt on my side and said my spleen may be enlarged and then walked away. I then asked him "so that's the reason for this knot under my rib?" He completely didnt notice it. He said that it was my rib doing that not my spleen. I guess I should take his word for it. I have to get X-rays tomorrow and see what all this is about. I had blood work done today. The feeling-- I feel the knot with my shirt on, as in whenever I'm wearing a shirt it's like I can feel my shirt touching the knot. I mostly have a tingling sensation in that spot, however the tingling also occurs in my lower left abdomen area as well. Sometimes I will get a burning sensation on the left side of my abdomen from the knot down. It helps holding a pillow when I sleep, however when I do squeeze to hard or move I feel numbness in my chest and in my left side. Sometimes I also feel sharp pains in my lower left abdomen as well as lower right back at the same time. To describe it, it feels like a gas pain and if I could just have gas it feels like it would go away. I've also been having indigestion every now and again. Also I have a bad taste in my mouth. It seems to be worse at night, and when I'm lying or sitting down. I'm not sure if this is from mononucleosis or what... Other things that are concerning me and if anyone can give me advice or information about this if it could cause this......---- - I am on 30mg instant release adderall. - I had mono 2 months ago. Which was severe. I had white spots on my swollen tonsils and I was extremely tired and weak. About a week before I was feeling mono sickness is when I FIRST noticed this knot. - I took doxycycline for my face for about a week and that made me sick and have me bad diharea so I quit taking it. - I'm a pilot, so I am going against high altitudes all day. I read high altitudes can have effects on you're spleen. Please if anyone has similar syptoms or knows what this could be, HELP Thank you for your time in reading this and I hope to find out what this is.

I am amazed at all the people that have this. I just noticed my 4 yr old has a protruding left lower rib, so I was researching online. His bones are still softer and I was wondering if it had anything to do with the organs underneath. He's a very health kid who is lean, not skinny, so I can see it when he lays down or sucks his tummy in. I noticed the stomach and spleen are under there. Has anyone had any stomach inflammation, left kidney or enlarged spleen?

I have the same issue. My doctor told me it was normal but my physiotherapist said that my ribcage was rotated.. has anyone gotten theirs fixed? I also noticed most people on here had the issues on the left side, same as me.

I lost a lot of weight when I was 14 and had the unpleasant discovery of having a large protrusion on my left ribcage. Much like you, my breasts aren't that big and when laying down it really sticks out. It was so bad that at one point while making out my then boyfriend started rubbing it :(

I had a lot of pain with it too (breathing in too deep, couldn't do crunches without pain, stabbing pain, couldn't lay on my side for an extended amount of time etc.) so insurance covered surgery for it and I got it done when I was 17. My doctor said that it looked like an overgrowth of cartilage and all he did was shave it down. He warned me that it would likely grow back overtime but I didn't care so long as it didn't hurt.

I'm 28 now, and it took about 10 years before I started noticing it sticks out more than the right. I have no idea if it would have kept on going if I didn't have the surgery, or if there's a natural point in which it stops. So far it doesn't cause me the pain it used to though laying on my left side is still uncomfortable after ~15min. or so. I can say it was so, so worth it when I was 17, though now that I'm older I think I'd try a corset before leaping for the surgery option again. Mostly because that's how I found out that morphine and I don't mix well, and I'd have to take 1-2 weeks off from work for recovery. Doing it when classes are out for summer is the best way to go.

I've had a CT scan of my ribcage and while my diaphragm is misshapen, the rest of my organs around there, including pancreas, are fine. I used to have stomach issues when I was younger but after moving away from home I realized it was stress related.

Well, this post is old but I think it's maybe scoliosis. I have a very light scoliosis in the thoracic spine and it caused my rib to rotate and my left ribs just poped out.
