I have the exact same problem! Thanks for that suggestion :D

Have you guys noticed that the protruding ribs are  predominantly on the left side? In fact,I have yet to read of anyone with solely right side protrusion. i guess it's something to do with the heart/ lung development on the left.

Ok...I thought I had something a bit more concerning but I'm feeling a bit better that I am not the only one.  I've had left side problems with neck shoulder and costochondritis like symptoms since my second child.  I am petite and carried my children on  the left hip for a combined total of about seven years while doing chores so I think that may be the causal factor. I'd been seeing a chiro for years then stopped and over months the protrusion either grew or it's become more noticable because it is now accompanied by a nagging pain. The left side protrusion is so apparent that it looks as though something is pushing it out but now I think not. My fears are allayed but think I should follow up with some x-rays to confirm.  Someone suggested a CT scan but I'd hate to have all of that radiation.

No, a belt would pull the sides and make the rib flare worse. Bodies aren't often round. We're flattened ovals (think Michael Phelps stingray shape). Please don't use a belt. You'd be better off doing exercises like woodchoppers and russian twists to build up the upper external oblique muscle fibers that stretch from your ribs down under your abs to the your linea alba (the line down the center of you abs). Building a strong is a very slow process for most people, but if you work out consistently you will start to see a huge improvement in the rib flare. Weighted barbell deadlifts done properly will also slowly contibute to your success as you progress and increase weight. Romanian deadlifts are done bending the knees at the start and end of each rep to protect your back. The heavier the weight you can work up to, the more the obliques will get involved. Weighted barbell squats will help but not as significantly as deadlifts.

So weird.. I have a problem similar to that- on my left side as well! It feels like my left side ribcage never developed fully? It curves abnormally and I can cup it with my hand, when on my right side the ribcage is perfectly fine.. Is there a condition for this? I hate it so much. It sticks out and makes me look even skinnier than I already am :/

I also have the same problem i went to a chiropractor and he said l had several ribs out of place and reajusted them for me so you might just have a few ribs out of place

That really freaks me out. I came on here to see the problem I am having but mine is on my right side about the 3rd or 4th is popping out pretty far, irecently I have lost alot of weight and thats when I really started noticing how bad it was . It is clearly visible it you are looking at it fron the side. The ride that is sticking out comes to a pretty sharp point and there is a pretty big abnormal indention in my ribs right before it hits the sternum. But as for the left side is completely normal.

I have a similar condition and I don't like it. My father first noticed it when I was a toddler and he was givilng me a bath. We went to the doctor who said not to worry (probably because my ribs were far enough from my spine so as not to cause any problems for my internal organs.)

Still I would like to find out if there is a way I can get the lower left ribs cut and re-aligned to match my right side and look like some awkward projection on my left side.

Yes, I have the same problem. My lower left ribs are sticking out more than the right one. I'm skinny that's why it is pretty noticeable. Although it doesn't hurt but it looks weird and ugly especially when you are lying or breathe in. Is there any other way to treat it other than a surgery?

I also have this same exact issue! Left side and everything. I'm 17, female. I don't have any back problems or medical ailments, the left side of my ribs just... Pokes out. I also find that the protruding ones are easy to move by just pushing them where you want them to go, which also makes me think a corset would fix the issue. Kinda like braces! I'll probably see a doctor about it first, though. The thought of one of my ribs stabbing an organ isn't too pleasant.

I have the exact same problem...it started with a pain in my upper ribs which has then started all the way down my ribcage.Ive noticed that they stuck out unevenly in the left side and I haven't been to the doctor about it yet.i have spent the morning researching and i am planning in telling my parents what I think of the situation and what I think can be done :)

Hi i noticed my left rib cage protruded forward a few years ago and as i got older i became very embarrassed of it. I decided to find out what it was so having spoken to several doctors (who were pretty useless as they completely ignored my basic symptoms wasting a year of my life) i was given an x-ray. When my doctors saw the results they realised that it wasn t my rib that was the issue but my spine. My condition is called scoliosis. I imagine this is what you all have as well. Scoliosis is where for some unknown reason (usually) your spine has curved to the side causing your shoulders and hips to be unlevelled and for your ribs to rotate. Lean over and ask someone to look at your spine if they can see a curve you will defiantly want to go and see your doctor to find out what the best solution for you is. scoliosis is 1 in 100 people which i know doesn t sound much but is actually quite common. For example there are about 100 kids or son in an average secondary school year. In my year i have actually met someone else with the same condition. I have a fairly severe degree (curve) but not one which is overly exaggerated. I am due to have an operation this summer as my scoliosis is only going to get worse. You might want to brace yourself for the facts that scoliosis is irreversible however if you are young then you can probably have it braced to stop it from getting worse. Some people take up forms of physiotherapy. Unfortunately this doesn t work for many and it hasn t been proved scientifically to actually work but its worth giving it a shot! I hope this has helped and I m sorry if you do have this condition but hey things could be worse! When i discovered that i had this condition it hit me like a brick but after a while a realised i had to get over myself and accept that i had this deformity. You may have a totally different condition but one of most common symptoms of scoliosis is your left rib sticking out! I hope this was helpful and the best of luck to you!
