LUNG PAIN AFTER PNEUMONIA

BACK IN AUGUST 2005 I HAD PNEUMONIA AND WAS HOSPITALISED FOR 2 WEEKS. JUST LIKE OTHER PEOPLE I HAVE CONTINUED TO EXPERIENCE PROBLEMS WITH MY CHEST EVEN THOUGH MY DOCTOR SAID MY XRAYS ARE FINE. I GET PAIN IN MY RIGHT LUNG ON COLD MORNINGS AND STILL GET BREATHLESS. EVEN AFTER ALL THIS TIME
I'm having a similar issue. I got pneumonia for the first time in March of 2016. It is now November. I took the usual 5 day antibiotics course and was given the "all clear" with an xray 2 weeks later. Its been 8 months and I still feel that dull aching pain in my chest. I STILL haven't returned to myself! Everytime I go to the doctors they say I'm fine. I'm curious to know if any of you have experienced the same thing. I'm starting to want a second opinion because I KNOW there is still something wrong with me. I have stayed tobacco free and alcohol free my entire life and I'm still 24 years young. There's no way this is normal...
Hi quietly depressed.
My heart goes out to you, you sound like you have not had very good health in more ways than one. I also had pneumonia, septicaemia, sepsis and toxic hepatitis because of the pneumonia. All this was in September, I still feel exhausted, have pains in my lung, having investigations of my liver, breathless and like you fine it increasing difficult to lose weight. I eat very healthily, so realistically I should be fairly slim, but I am not!!!!!! From what you are describing as your diet, I don't actually think you are eating enough, especially when you are going to the gym as well. If you think about your body like a car, the car will only run when it has sufficient fuel, your body is very clever and when you are only giving it minimal amounts of fuel and expecting it to do the gym, work, etc etc it has to slow everything down to be able to manage, therefore your metabolism becomes very sluggish. I used to run two slimming world classes, and had lots of members with similar problems, try eating more healthy low fat but filling meals, continue with your gym and I can guarantee the weight will start to reduced. Hope your feeling little better in yourself now as this post was some time ago.
Helen

Hi, I'm a bit older than you (38) but have always been very fit and active. I got walking or atypical pneumonia and pleurisy around late august. I Had three weeks on ABs and the doc gave me the all clear. It's now three months later and i still have intermittent chest pain and generally low energy levels. The pain is sometimes throbbing, sometimes like a stitch and has mainly been on the LHS. Looking at this and other forums makes me think this is all probably not unusual. The weird thing though is that none of the official health pages on pneumonia make any mention of lingering pain after treatment is complete.
Same here. I had it for six weeks starting in December and it's now December again and after all this time I still get chest pain and fatigue. My parents say I'm fine but I know I'm not.
Yes it can.
I would like to know how to get rid of chest pains. I had 3 pneumonia cases in the past year.
Don't let the weight thing get you down..although perhaps a thorough check up is in order to see if there is something underlying...perhaps even something that allowed the pneumonia in the first place. Just got over pneumonia and thus far just a touch of pain in rt lung..so this site is unsettling a bit. But with your sons just stay strong for them and try to find a really good doctor. Word of mouth is generally the best way to find a top doctor. I wish you all the best and as I've said don't let the weight get you too down...easily said...I know I know. Sometimes the body takes a full year to 18 months to reset from terrible illness like you had. All the best from Detroit, Michigan.
Hi,
I've had pneumonia and influenza virus nine months ago and I'm still experiencing pains in my chest and lungs with a cough still which sometimes I loose my breath with. I was on Tammy flu and another antibiotic to clear it but I'm worried there's still something there I've even had an x-ray which came back clear. But there has to be something up if I still feel sore and breathless
It's been two years since I've posted here and have not had another case of pneumonia but the pain does return intermittently. I developed unrelated hypotension so I had the full work up such as a cardiac moniter, plenty of EKGs, and an echocardiogram which were all normal except some pvcs which are benign and do not occur with the chest pain. It's annoying but with all the testing I've had in not worried that it's something dangerous.
I suggest you take the prednisone. It's not a life sentence. It's only until your pneumonia clears up. I'm on the end stages of pneumonia and my left lung which is where most of the fluid was found aches at times. Don't play with pneumonia. Take whatever mess the Doctor prescribes.
I am on week 5 of pneumonia after 2 rounds of antibiotic. I finally was prescribed predisone and now I can breathe. Best stuff ever. I do however still have soreness and chest pain. Debating on being seen again.
That is not good advice! Quackery is not an alternative to evidence based medical science! And praying won't accomplish either!
I just came across your post and I have the same issue I know you had this problem a long time ago and I am wondering how things are now because I am also on methadone and I also had pneumonia and the doc says X-rays are good but still in a lot of pain. The problem is that I don't want them to think I am asking for pain meds when I don't. I just want this pain to go away. What did you end up doing or do you have any advice, thx
How are you getting on now with the pain after your Pneumonia? and were you short of breath? I was in hospital in December went for another X-ray a few weeks ago and they said all well but I am still having pain and also short of breath when I walk up hill or steps. Dose this sound like you? I would love to know.. thanks!!
