I have the same problem with everyone here.I had pleural effusion then it became a tuberculosis.I felt stabbing pain on my right lung, and I went to see a doctor. The doctor quickly advised that I should be confined in the hospital.I've had a worse case of coughing (without blood), I've had fever and chills too.My doctor sent me in a hospital for a week, anti-biotics were injected to me, and the water on my lungs was drained once.Right after the procedure of taking out the water, I felt so relieved immediately. My cough dissapeared, and I can breathe better. After that, I was requested by my doctor to take a rest for a month from work because my immune system is still weak. Ever since I got hospitalized, I've been visiting my doctor once a month for monitoring. After six months I was cleared. On my 8th month, I was bothered by the discomfort of pain that I can still feel on my right lung, so I went back to my doctor. He told me that I was okay, and that what I'm feeling is pain on my nerves/veins, not on my lungs. He told me that there are people who's like me that still feels pain after being cured. He gave me medicines that I should intake until the pain has gone.I suggest that you also go back to your doctors to be monitored. My doctor told me that a six months period of taking medication should be followed strictly to be cured.I wish safety to everyone! :D
mine turned out to be wegeners.... it is fatal without treatment and sometimes still fatal with treatment. so far it has gone fropm blood clots that were caused by wegeners to pneumonia, to damage due to scarring from pulmonary embolism, to kidney failure, and gall bladder disease.  please if you dr can't figure it out demand a test for wegeners granulomatosis.  hundreds die every year without a diagnosis and dr's are resistant to testing for it because it is rare.  it's a very cheap blood test to determine it cost me $28.00 to be tested for wegeners.
Omg, reading this made me feel so much better, i had the same problem! Still have this pain! :(
i see these posts are old but I just got over a mild case of pneumonia and now have pain in my chest. Wanted to share that I have fluid between my chest and my lung and it hurts when I breathe...feels like broken ribs. Dr says it will go away gradually. Its in the pleural cavity? As in pleurisy.I came to site because wondered if I can exercise without getting relapseBeth
To Quietly Depressed: I recommend Reiki or Energy Healing for your health and weight loss, as well as Nopalea for your health - for all of us who have any sort of inflammation, Nopalea is extremely beneficial. I also recommend Herbalife products for health and weight loss. I have walking pneumonia myself, but am doing much better than the woman from whom I caught it, even though I am 21 years older (53). Of course, she smokes, but I have more energy and am recovering faster. I recommend all of the above to everyone, including those with lingering chest pain, which is what drew me to this site: I was wondering if chest pain was normal with pneumonia. Thanks, everyone, for sharing! You helped me tonight - I hope my advice helps you as well.
you could have asthma have you been checked for it yet?
Hi , i had pneumonia back in august last year and was hospitalizied for about 5 days . I still complain from pains in my chest (nothing too serious) of where the pneumonia was . I get checked with an X-ray every few months to keep tabs but I am back to doign exercise now and the pain still comes and goes some times.   any advice or could it be lung cancer ?
Yes! Definitely take the Steroid/Prednesone because it heals your lungs. You could always do something after about the weight gain, but it is highly necessary for the STEROID!! Good Luck.
Hang in there ;) try the south beach diet. First week is an adjustment but after that its easy. Very healthy. Praying for your good health!!

Great to here from anyone whith these symptons simon
far as the weight loss, you actually need to eat MORE. If you are at the gym 3 times a week, you need to eat more. What has probably happened is your body went into survival mode after such a wretched pneumonia (which sounds a million times worse than the petty pneumonia I was going to post about on here...never mind, you've shamed me!) and slowed down your metabolism. Since you eat so little, you metabolism has been staying in starvation/drought mode. To lose weight and keep it off, you need to 1.)eat a breakfast with fiber, protein and carbs, just to wake your system up. This could be lite yogurt and sliced fruit, about 200 calories. 2.)Make lunch your biggest meal, but, once again, emphasize the protein and fiber. So, instead of a salad sandwich, which is probably about 600 calories, why not make a big healthy salad full of dark-colored leafy greens, sliced almonds and sunflower seeds, dried berries, balsamic dressing, and top it with a piping hot grilled seasoned chicken breast, tuna steak, or salmon? This has about 500 calories, and is WAY more fun than a sandwich! The natural fat from the meat, and the olive oil in your dressing, will keep you from feeling deprived. 3.)Your metabolism revvs down in the evening, so your dinner shouldn't be heavy. If you like enjoy Lite and Easy, by all means continue, but look through magazines for healthy high-fiber, high flavor recipes. The key to losing weight is KEEPING A LITTLE FOOD IN YOUR SYSTEM all the time. so eat your breakfast, have a beef jerky snack, eat your lunch, have a whole fruit snack, eat your dinner, indulge in a dark chocolate or frozen yogurt snack. I lost 10 pounds in 3 weeks by cutting out all snacks that were not protein or fiber rich. Jerky, almonds, and berries are the best for dieters!
yes keep exercising,i have had pneumonia quite a few times over the past 15yrs and after all these yrs i still have pain in my right lung where it was scarred,im a 43 yr old woman,my best defense is exercise it does heal the lungs body and your head too.The pain i still get is a stabbing pain in my right lung,it really annoys me sometimes but i learn to live with it,i have 2 xrays a yr but it shows nothing now bar scarring. The only thing i feel is when youve had pneumonia you are or seem to be more prone to chest infections and pleurisy.
Hi everyone, I'm new here and have had very similar issues. I had the advantage? of a family history of pulmonary embolism (blood clot/s in lung/s) which has pretty much identical symptoms to pneumonia. I had a PE but no pneumonia in 2007. Often a person with a PE gets fluid on the lungs, but I did not. Not even a crackle or wheeze in my lungs. I still get similar symptoms, even though I have been on Warfarin (Coumadin) consistently since. The issue usually is that PE's are one of the most underdiagnosed potentially fatal conditions, and from what I've found, they are usually diagnosed as pneumonia. Sorry, not trying to scare anyone, but for me, it's better to know. Especially if you are a younger person, my younger brother had 3 PE's before he was 30yrs old, starting at 27. I had alot of issues being diagnosed myself at 35, with even seasoned health professionals being surprised. My own issue was a gene mutation, paired with a PE means Warfarin for life. My two brothers have had lots more clotting episodes, but do not have the mutated gene so are not on Warfarin unless they have an episode. My father and two of my children also have the gene mutation G20210A. My other two children have not yet been tested. Issue is that a chest X-Ray (for pneumonia) won't show up a PE. In the past, only a VQ Scan (tests lung efficacy & blood flow in lungs) will find a PE. There seems to be alot of debate amongst doctors about VQ scan or Contrast CT scan being better than the other to find a PE. My issue this week, PE symptoms after being a little slack, not taking my Warfarin every day, clear X-Ray=no pneumonia, clear CT scan, 2 doctors think I need a VQ as they say CT doesn't find PE's and they think I have a PE. Unfortunately only my two doctors (and not the hospital) believe that someone on Warfarin can get a clot. So far one visit and one phone call to ED means no VQ will be offered. Every time I visit my doc, have also rung Nurse on Call, they say go to Emergency a.s.a.p., Loads of chest pain, breathless, fever, low energy after a week of huge doses of 2 kinds of antibiotics + puffer. Maybe I will try another hospital... :-(

I just recently got over having bacterial pneumonia. I have been sick for 3-1/2 weeks and only found out I had pneumonia about 2 weeks ago. I went on very strong antibiotics for 10 days. On my 7th day on meds I started experiencing heaviness in my chest and having a hard time breathing. I went to the hospital where they checked me out and said it was the after affects of having pneumonia. Two days later and the heaviness is gone in my chest but my chest feels weird (hard to explain how it feels almost like anxiety) and my heart is beating a little faster than normal. Is this normal?? I am going back to my Dr this week for a follow-up. My chest x-rays at the hospital were clear.
