Hey guys. let me tell you a story of my own experience with cannabis and stomach pain. First of all I started smoking marijuana 3 years ago and smoke at least every other day, usually not as much anymore though. But 2 years ago I started having stomach pains. i would get bad cramps and felt like I was bloated (I'm a guy, 22 now, only 135lbs) and the pain would worsen throughout the day. near the evening toward the end of the day the pains would worsen and spread to my chest. I was going to the doctors a bunch and even to the emergency room one night when the paid was really bad. they did a bunch of tests, blood tests, xrays, even an ultrasound like they give to pregnant women. It was in February and the time, and I racked a bill of around $1900 (I just got out of a semester of college and didn't have insurance anymore) I did have really poor eating habbits and have been a heavy drinker for about a year before the pains started. but I quit drinking a month before the pains started because I threw up one morning and saw blood in the vomit. Anyways, I am skinny and used to eat really unhealthy, I would work evenings and come home to a meal of corn dogs, cereal, little debbie snack cakes, pizza and soda. and always a bowl or 3. and this would all be after working as a waiter/server for 5 hours without eating much so I would eat a lot of food probably around 3000 calories in an hour then go to bed an hour later. When the pains were going on I even told my doctor how I ate and he said it's fine it's probably not that. about 4 weeks after the pains started I changed my diet completely and started eating organic foods and a lot of vegetables and fruits and stopped eating all the junk food. the pains were gone in days. cannabis would worsen the pain a little bit when I had them but I did some research then (being the hypochondriac I am) and learned that smoking cannabis stimulates all the major organs in your body and basically goes all through your body in smoke form which isn't bad for you but can cause discomfort. Eating cannabis in food form such as making butter and baking cookies with the butter, will not give you these pains because there is no smoke but you will still have the same affects as smoking, actually the affects would last longer and be stronger (I'm a huge fan of cooking cannabis to congest, the relaxation is great, if you haven't tried it, search cannabutter in google, it's simple and you can use very little amount of cannabis less than a gram even, don't smoke when you eat it though because it replaces the affects! trust me I have had many people tell me it didn't work that well but they still felt it and it's becasue they all smoke right after they ate the cookies) Anyways!... I have been on a good diet of fruits and vegetables and whole grains good milk without growth hormones and mostly all natural foods, and I barely have pains.(They come once in a while but only after I eat fast fod then go to bed right away which I try to avoid because I have friends who complain about pain daily and whenever I ask if they ate before bed they say yes, it's not good to eat before you lay down.) I also smoke daily, usually after work now, usually out of a diffused percolated waterpipe, I rarely drink, and I am basically pain free.
BOTTOM LINE:
Eat healthy! Don't eat right before you go to bed!! Smoked cannabis can cause discomfort/pain because of the smoke! Eating cannabis will not cause pain it will cure pain!Vaporizers vaporize the THC so you don't have toinhale smoke so they will not cause pain! hope I gave you some insight have a good one guys and good luck, stay healthy!
PS, cannabis has been proven to CURE hemorrhoids, just found out a couple weeks ago on the Jay Leno show then I researched it online and found more information. It also has been known to cure some types of cancer. yes cure, as well as treat certain pains associated with cancers, it yes, has been known to CURE cases of cancer. look it up on google

I think there's absolutely some truth to all this. I'm almost 26 and have smoked on a daily basis since I was 18. Over the last three years, I've had terrible episodes of bloating and gas that won't come out w/o lying on the left side. I also got diagnosed with GERD (acid reflux) three years ago and have taken various drugs to treat it, which are sometimes helpful and sometimes not. More so than ever, my stomach hurts after smoking pot, though the rest of me feels pretty good. If I lay on the left side after smoking, which I recently discovered, there's a LOT of gas coming out that I didn't have before, which brings relief to the discomfort-- hence, the pot is causing it. I have loose stool too, and have lost a lot of weight. I think smoking causes a gas bulid up that makes me feel full too fast after eating, which means I'm not getting enough calories every day. After reading these posts, I really think it's the pot. It's tough to hear how close-minded people can be on other threads bc they are in denial about their smoking habits being bad, but smoking cigarettes causes the body to build up more acid, so it makes sense to me that it might build up gas too. I think I'm gonna have to quit or cut back drastically. Serious bummer, but my stomach aches and pains are getting out of control. Oh, and FYI I've been tested for Chron's, Celiac and everything else under the sun, and my GI specialist doesn't know what's causing so much discomfort-- but I don't tell him how much I smoke...
Im 20 years old and have been smoking since about age 13. I have tried to quit but cant because of the stomache issues. When I dont smoke its hard to eat but almost every morning i wake up with my stomache in a knot and get feelings of A "Growling Stomache". these usually worsen till i feel like im about to puke. I ll get the sweats and then either gag and almost puke or just puke up bile. After that i tend to feel better and it seems to allow me to eat. I also feel very fatigued all the time and my muscles almost ache when im not stoned and even sometimes when i am. This is very hard for me because im a musician and this drains my energy and ambition to play. Also i get very shakey and nervous, sweaty palms, paranoia when i first smoke during the day.
I have never read anything about this until today and am glad i did.
Ive been going to the same moronic doctor for years and he is clueless to the symptoms i tell him.
I think im done getting high!
if anyone feels these same symptoms let me know so i know its the weed causing this.
thanks everyone ?

Hi! I'm very happy that i found this topic. I'm from Poland (22 years old) - here is very difficuld to find any information about this. I have similar symptomes like you. How you think, what is the reason of stomach pain after smoking?
I think it is conected with some kind of virus, or bacteria. In my case it started in summer 2008. I smoke some weed with friends who turned back from Africa. One of them was sick - it looked like flu. After few days I get sick to. For 24h I got high temperature and feelt bad. I ignorate this, but 1-2 months later i started to feel pain in stomach, and other symptomes.. Also Prostatitis (prostate inflamation) after smoking but its gone now. Now then I smoke weed I feel very bad.
What I want to say is, this could be caused by EBV Virus - (mononucleosis) - sympthoms - 24h sicknes. This virus atacked immune system. Do anyone of you checked it out? Have you got EBV?
I think about HPV to, but there is somethink about 80 kind of this virus, and i dont know with one to choose for tests (16 or 18?).
It could be possible, that this is some new variation of virus, and doctors don't know to much about it. (my problem starts only 2 years ago, and yours?)
Other cause is bateria. Many of you have "acid refluks" - I have it to. In my case it is caused by Helicobacter Pylori. Maybe this bacteria is conected with stomach pain?
I also think about Chlamydia - this could be connected with prostatis - i had in the begining of desease, but im not sure is I heve this bacteria.
Now i'm taking probiotics, and something about one month i will start to take antibiotics for Helicobacter Pylori - then i will tell you if it helped.
I also think, that this problem could be connected with naturally cannabinoids witch are controling gastrointestinal tract. Maybe additional cannabinoids could distrurd natural cannabinol work? Some of you says that if you smoke using Vaporiser, there is no this negative effect. This could be connected with differend boiling point of different cannabinols. I think that straing is important to. When I smoke White Russian Automatic, I wasnt feeling bad, but when i smoke Cindy99 (more sativa) it was terrible. I think that, than more I feel high, than more I feel pain. (this 2 straings was 100% clean weed - no dilers - only home growers).
My doctor says that I got IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome) - as I know it is connected with stress and psychical condition. Maybe marihuana cuase stress reaction in our body? But why marihuana helps another people to cure ibs? And why in my case, symphtoms starts plump? I haven't any stopach problems before summer 2008...

Your stomach problems are almost certainly unrelated to smoking.
But if youve convinced yourself that there is a connection, try not smoking.
As a complete paranoid and general anxious hypochindriac, i have found that
we always look to find the cause of physical symptoms.
The reality of the matter is deeper than that - and i beleive stems from simply being human.
Being human is a painful process. Most of the time we dont feel pain in organs, but often
our brains will tell us we have this pain. even through im not sure organs even have pain
receptors. It is my conclusion that as you grow older and are increasingly self aware, you will
not be able to avoid noticing various, almost mentally crippling, pains and concerns regarding
general health. I really think that the best thing to do is make an effort to eat and drink well,
and do your best to "power through" most ailments and self-health projections.
Putting smoke in your lungs isnt logically wise, but it has been a part of living for centuries.
You could say its 'wired' in our DNA. For as long as a species is as self aware as we, will they
suffer the curse of being. And they will do things like smoking to feel different, or eating this, or that.
I bet getting 'high' is what even led us to be so advanced. Cavemen eating shrooms, communicating,
and most importanlt "thinking abstractly about hypothetical situations". This is what we are
doomed to do. I would not be so concerned with weed as the cause for your ailments. I would
be concerned with your development of good eating and drinking habits. You will feel better
in body and mind as a result. and smoking weed should only affect your creative thinking of the
abstract. As opposed to having poor diet and feeling bad and connecting it to weed. So i will agree
weed could cue bad feelings. however it probably just brings you to the level of selfawareness to
observe and read your own body, which probably is constantly under pain of being alive with a 2010 diet.
Dont worry about smokin weed man, just do it in moderation. best times late at night. keep doing things
productive to life through the day, as weed can consume these necessities with overuse, and thus basic sanity.
Your health is fine, except your 2010 diet, and except for being alive and having to feel it.

Just power through it.
Throughout your life you are most certainly
going to experience lots of different natural occurances.
It is natural to wonder the cause of such natural anomalies.
And to automatically want to link them to events surrounded in guilt.
Like smoking. We all know smoke in lungs isnt wise.
But our species have consumed biologic "drugs" for centuries.
Good Marijuana is a kind substance.
Stay away from chemical drugs - those are what will cause ailments.
Your ailments are most definately simply linked to having a normal 2010 diet.
And not with occasionally tokin it up - trust me.
Try your best to eat and drink well
And dont put so much weight on smoking herb.

Well, I can tell you this for certain: if you think smoking pot bothers your stomach, then NEVER eat it - period. Many people have no adverse affects from eating fresh baked pot cookies, or other edibles. But if you are prone to cramping, or have an irritable bowel, or simply are sensitive in that way, eating those pot edibles will often cause severe pain and cramping and digestive problems for 24-48 hours, or more.
I've never had that reaction to the edibles that are baked with the Pot boiled down to butter, and then cooked into the food - those taste like regular bakery items and I've never noticed anything bad.
But, the stuff that is made with fresh ground pot - that stuff I might as well eat a rotten chicken, it puts me in sh*t house every time and in pain for days. Seriously...
I realize that I may not be the norm, but with 7 Billion odd other folks here on earth I am certain a few other would run into this as well.
Use you common sense and don’t do something that hurts you physically, just because many others have no issues. I certainly learned my lesson, after having spent several weekends instead of enjoying relaxing, and whatnot, sitting in agonizing pain of cramps and back spasms that they caused.
Trust your mind, and your body - not another person mouth - YOU are the best judge of whether something you intake hurts or bothers you. It's like any other drug or medication - they DONT work the same for everyone PERIOD.
The BEST thing you can do for a healthy and good pain free life is to exercise, be active, eat good, fresh, nutritious foods, and get proper rest.
One final thing: If you want to use Cannabis, then use a vaporizer. Smoking pot is NOT the same thing AT ALL. I should know, I smoked it for 40 years before switching to a vaporizer. After switching, a few years ago, I never got a cold even ONCE, never had ANY stomach issues (of course I was training with weights and stretching and doing kung fu a few times per weeks and eating properly
Nutritious foods, and this also causes you to sleep much better.
Trust me on this: Smoking will get you more stoned. That's why so many people do it still. Even friends with $700 vaporizer (no they don’t all cost that much) smoke instead. I could never understand why, until about 2 months ago when my vaporizer died - and I had to switch back to smoking - I immediately noticed slight nausea, and other things - this is NOT for the Cannabis - it’s from the pukey c**p that is created when you burn what is basically ROPE. It's like what’s in your pipe, that goopy resin c**p. But, that's NOT what you want from the cannabis and it is NOT what is medicinal - smoke is pokey sh*t period. What you want is the chemical THC which is inside that goop... not ALL the c**p that burning it out creates.
When you smoke you are getting like 7 parts c**p and 1 part medicine (THC) or worse - vapor is pure - no c**p, all medicine. And I don’t think it makes you feel as 'stoned' like smoking does, but you get the full benefit of the drug. Hence no ill effects, unless you a person who doesn't do well with it, which can happen with ANY medication.
Also, I got sick within about 2-months after going back to smoking. Oh, it definitely gets you higher - but it not as much of the actual medicine - that's the smoke and c**p getting you dizzy. Believe it. This is reality... cannabis is good... smoking is bad. IF you’re smoking and getting a stomach ache it is PERFECTLY natural. Some people either get used to it or aren't as sensitive to it as others.
Hope this helps - do what works for you. And, when trying to determine what is best for YOU, remember to use YOUR mind, NOT your ears, or someone elses mind.

Hi! It is again me. Maciek from Poland.
I think that my problem is much bigger. I didn't smoke weed, but I only sit with smoking friends with this same room- and the problem was back. I felt symptoms for few hours - no high, only physical feelings:
It always begin in this same way. Itchy skin and eyes. I feel itch in armpits, perineum, eyes and little bit ears. Then I feel something like inflammation of the urinary drug - i feel it itchy and swollen. Dry and "chapped like" lips with something like skin irritation in mouth. I also feel some pains in back - something like kidney pain. And after few hours the worst think - pain in anus. I got anal fissure for over 1 year and it don't want to heal. I don't feel it every day, only sometimes. But after few hours since cannabis contact i feel pain in this place. I know that anal fissure is sympthom in serious diseases like Leukemia, Hiv and cancer - but doctors say that i'm healthy. Thats why I think I have some rare disease.
Do you have any ideas what test to do? I think that blood test is base in this case, but can you give me some tips? Maybe something special for blood cancer or something like this?

I quite agree to the fact that smoking marijuana is associated with many stomach pains including painful stomach ulcers, firstly marijuana smoke dries up the fuid in the body including the stomach and for those with an existing ulcer it poses great danger and stomach pains. I have been smoking marijuana for years and have constantly experienced great stomach pains each time i smoke. Whenever i stop smoking weed for a while i will not experience the pains but whenever i smoke the pains comes back and the heavier i smoke the more the pain so it is very obvious that marijuana smoking causes stomach pains and cramps and even causes and aggravates stomach ulcers.
I'm a smoker of about 3 years and i've never had a problem until recently. About 3 weeks ago i found out i had an inguinal hernia and around the same time i started having chest pains, stomache pains, shortness of breathe (particularilly in my right lung) and sweaty palms after smoking. The weird thing is that after some smoke sessions i feel fine, but others i feel TERRIBLE. I figured it was due to the smoke in my lungs(and stomache) that i was getting this pains, but only recently have I realized that my dealer has been getting in a lot of INDICA strain weed which is a different branch of cannabis. Yesterday i ate "special" brownies made with indica weed and i've felt HORRIBLY TERRIBLE since about an hour and a half after i ate them and i still feel really cruddy today. The pain hasn't been in my lungs though, it's been in my stomache. I was wondering if i have some kind of allergy or something to indica weed but not strativa (if that's possible). I'm taking a break in smoking until i get my hernia surgery (in a week), but i LOVE smoking and would really like to know what is going on with my body. PS-Thanks to everyone who posted before me, i have a lot more ideas on what could be going on.
well Ive been smoking for like 7 years everyday maybe 3 to 5 times a day, I also am now getting these stomach problems when I'm not smoking but when I'm high my stomach feels a little better but afterword it feels horrible,. I'm pretty sure the reason is when I smoke it increases the acid in my stomach, but over the years it has started to burn the lining of my stomach which gives me a feeling of strong nausea, and I lose all apatite, I don't have insurance so I cant see a doctor, but what sometimes helps me is antacids like tums or something stronger like prilosec or omepazole, when my stomach feels acidic. but I believe the only way to totally heal myself is to cut back on smoking so much or possibly quit all together, which i don't really want to do because i love smoking :-(
Don't listen to these people who think they know what their talking about , just because they don't experience problems on it they think the rest of the worlds population is the same as them. Of course cannabis can cause stomach problems for some people as it effects gut motility! I also have problems with my overall gastrointestinal system every time I vaporize cannabis, I end up with a lot of spasms, belching and regurgitating up mouthful's of food and stomach acid every time, Ive looked up online and found many people have the same problem and here are some links supporting why some people have stomach problems on cannabis, studies have shown that use of marijuana can actually worsen symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux disease by decreasing resting pressures of the lower esophageal sphincter. Here are some links on the topic

Although many of your shared experiences have been helpful, no one seems to be at the same point I find myself at. I have been smoking weed morning, noon and night solidly for a little over a year now, I have always had a pretty sensitive stomach but nothing serious, but a few months ago I started experiencing unignorable nausea and cramping in my stomach. It is always worst in the morning when I wake up and can last for hours. These symtoms have been and continue to be a mystery to me, the only thing I have found that relieves the discomfort is smoking a bowl. I am concerned that it may relieve it but it may also be the source of the problem? my symptoms have only continued to get worse I.E. intense cramping and nausea that haveon a few occasions led to vomitting. All of you fine folk have covered these feelings while quitting, but what about when you have not quit?? should I quit? any info or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!! thanks!! -
