You are right. I did at first had no problems with it and in fact had a new one placed in. This year was I started having problems cramping and pain during sex with my husband to the point where we had to stop. I gotten it taken out. It had gotten into my uterus wall. If am more happy right now that it's out my husband is a trooper and took one for the team. Good luck to all of you!!

when you get the Mirena IUD you are supposed to wait 2+ weeks to have sex or any kind of sexual act! in order for Mirena to adjust to your body and for the strings to soften.

Thanks for this. Have been considering an iud but will definitely not now.

My strings are completely gone and my partner still feels the poking

It's probably the strings that hang down from the Mirena. That are actually a metal! I could see them poking and making it painful

My partner has felt it but it never hurt him. I'm thinking they didn't cut your partners string short enough. Ppl get them trimmed all the time. Maybe she should go to doc and explain your situation and ask them to trim her strings

I have had the mirena for just almost 1.5 years now. I have never had children but decided to get it anyways. I also get the bleeding after sex. Just a light pink tinge to the toilet paper when I wipe. It also has come to the point that sex can be painful. My boyfriend has to be really careful and not go too deep or it feels like my ovaries are being ripped out. It's not very nice. My breasts are also often very tender as well. I really enjoy not getting my period with the mirena and not taking a pill. but I'm debating on getting it taken out due to the sex problem.

I got the iud(Skyla) in about a month ago. So far only complaint is the spotting and minor cramps. Sex is still great for myself and partner and it's also not vanilla lol.

I've had Mirena for 2.5 years and have also had the strings cut short. My husband feels it everytime we have sex and it hurts him each time. It hurts me as well during certain positions. I regret getting the Mirena. It's caused so many problems I'm going to have it removed and deal with the pill.

I had the same problem! Sex has hurt for months for me. Finally I had enough and went to my gyno. He told me it may be from me having my son and my body hasn't settled back into the right places or the IUD. I had it removed two days ago, so I'm hoping it gets better.

i have found with mine i bleed after sex due to the threads being too long and the scrape the sides of your wall while your busy with your partner it hurts like hell they can cut them to a smaller size and i would suggest insisting on this as some docs refuse to believe it often ones who havent had it if it feels uncomfy have it taken out you shouldnt be able to feel it at all. have the threads cut i hope it helps mine became worse and was stuck in me i now struggle to be with my partner at all as my doc refused to take it out she also hadnt measured me for it either so it could have done some damage :(

oh man the pain is so sever with my gf that sometimes i just have to stop. thankfully tonight (in my case) something odd happened she had such a terrible pain after 90 minutes of sex that she had trouble standing and walking tomorrow were gonna go get it taken out yayyyy for me :'(

Do not have them cut shorter. If they cut them shorter and u want the mirena out u will have to have surgery to get it out like I now have to and the strings end up going inside the uterus and causing inflammation. And u have to deal with the pain until a gyno can get u in which right now I'm on a 5 weeks wait and I've already been to planned parenthood and the er and no one can take it out.
