I started experiencing waking up from a sound sleep in severe pain in my hands 15 years ago. I was given injections in each wrist and bumped to the top of Kaiser surgical list for carpal tunnel surgery, the shots that I was given was so helpful that ut completely arrested the severe burning, swelling and the worst pain I had in them for over ten years I didn't have an issue. In 2012 it came back went had more shots but they weren't as helpful. In 2014 the pain became so bad I was referred to a carpal tunnel specialist who determined thru testing that I only had a mild case. Nothing was done therefore. For months now I am woken from a sound sleep from the pain burning swelling sometimes in botj9 extremities from my fingers all the way too my underarm after I am woken up like this the pain gets much worse and grows in intensity and is so bad I cry. I have tried everything from having my dear friend from Japan whose Buddhist come running in and pray on my hands while I'm screaming bloody murder to make it stop. Running water over them doesn't help sleeping upright doesn't help sleeping with my arms at my side doesn't work either. I woke up over 2 hours ago and the pain is still there tho has subsided to a low roar. I am quite sure at this point tho I am not a doctor I research a lot. I was misdiagnosed after moving to Spokane at the er and because of their negligence I now have bilateral drop foot and nerve damage neuropathy in both feet which I am now convinced that this type of neuropathy has spread to my hands and arms. I am unable to receive quality of life healthcare since moving here because i was profiled treated like a drug seeker and black listed in my permanent medical record. I suffered for over 3 agonizing suicidal years for this medical community to help me but because i od'd over 8 years ago after i was shot up with heroin and left for dead placed on life support till my next of kin could turn me off. I was brain dead. I have no history of abusing pain pills but because of that event they also say I'm too high risk. I finally after being given the run around from a Spokane surgeon who continually lied about getting s prior auth for surgical intervention to arrest the painful disabling conditions that my misdiagnosed spine injury was causing. I finally had to go too Seattle for a surgical consult the surgeon said i should haven't been able to even walk away from that fall and he said if he could get the approval to operate he'd do the surgery even if it was three days away which would have been Christmas day that is how serious my injury was. In a months time I flew to Seattle alone took a cab to the Harborview hospital and checked in for my spine surgery which began about an hour and a half later. I had to have a cage put in to stabilize my spine and a prostitic disc made to replace the one that had shot out of my spine when I fell I had to have two vertebra that had fused together with bone chiseled apart to receive the prosthetic disc. For two months after my surgery i had zero neuropathic pain which was only in my big toes. It came back in the middle of May and has spread to every toe. Neither condition that came from my fall had been arrested because Spokane and their lack of treatment allowed to much time for it to be arrested. I now have no doctor at all. my state health insurance has been informed on multiple occasions of the injustices I have received and agree and have stated that I have been given the run around. So today I am calling to see if I can go to a rheumatoid arthritis specialist because of the neuropathy and my untreated fibromyalgia. If I have to have a doctor to refer me then I won't be getting any help there either. I suggest that y'all who have this painful persistent condition see one too. Good luck and God bless.

I worked as a Secretary for emergency room/ radiology for six years. The pain is almost unbearable. I'm thinking carpal tunnel.a few more pillows at night will make a huge difference.

I ordered this book after reading this post. It has been 2 days, and I just had my first full nights sleep without pain!!! I can't believe it. There is definitely something to this trigger point therapy. I was at my wits end!! I woke up crying and yelling with pain, and being pregnant, of course could not take anything. I'm just truly astounded. Thank you whomever wrote this post that I stumbled upon in the early Hrs, in a fit of pain. It has truly changed something!
To be clear.. I had pain in my hands at night, the burning stabbing pain, with numbness and occasional swelling. I have been dealing with this for years. I had almost 10 years where I had no symptoms, and that was after my last pregnancy. I had seen a chiropractor 3 times a week then and think that has something to do with it. This started before my current pregnancy. I think pregnancy may exacerbate the problem, but not cause it.

Bottom knuckles here, can not wear my rings. i have been a nurse for 35 years, am 55 yrs old & waking nightly for about 4 weeks now. Left hand only- Numbness, burning, swelling & excruciating pain all at the same time. But the past week it hurts all day too. Pumping the BP cuff hurts like hell.

Sounds like carpal tunnel, i have it in my right hand and if I don't wear my brace while sleeping I have the same thing happen. if you tap your wrist joint and it tingles you probably have it and should invest in a hand/wrist brace

I get the swelling of the knuckles also. My simptoms are burning in the arms, from the armpit down to the hand, tingling fingers, and swelling in the whole hand. It’s always the right arm/hand. I had this start about 10 years ago just after starting a new job. I just assumed I was using muscles I didn’t know I had. It went away for several years and then all of a sudden it started back up three nights ago. Again I started a new job. Could using muscles not used to being used contribute to this god awful pain?

No big deal getting a epidural with steroid injection will mask the problem ,steriods are a horrible choice for any problem unless life threatening . Try and find a doctor who can treat the problem not mask it with such a strong cocktail as you described .
