Fire Gland, Left Side Under Jaw!! Same here!! I do drink red wine in the evenings almost always which I haven't been able to do lately. My story started five months ago with "airplane ears" and lymph swelling in my neck. I went to the walk-in clinic and he said I had an ear infection which was probably making my glands/lymphs swell. Got a shot of cortisone and some antibiotics. After completing them, still had same issues. Got a more"specific antibiotic" The ear thing went away but the gland under my left jaw still hurt/burned. It is hard to tell if it is pain or burning but it is always there to remind me. I then went to an ENT! He said ears, nose and throat are clear, go see your dentist maybe you have TMJ. Went to my dentist and he did dental x-rays to make sure nothing else was going on. Of course he said "maybe" it is TMJ and had a $400 mouth piece I could buy. I didn't purchase it. I then went to a different doc to get a 2nd opinion. They tested me for strep and mono, both came back NEGATIVE. She said gargle with warm salt water and I should feel better in a few days. REALLY??!! A week later, went to another doc and requested full labs. Labs all came back normal. Told her about the problem and she said to start taking Nexium because she thinks I have been experiencing silent reflux which has my throat always feeling sore and that "maybe" it is causing that gland to swell or cause trouble. The Nexium does really help but I still can't have red wine and I had ketchup today and that little gland is ON FIRE!! The did refer me to a GI who can't see me for two months!! I called the doctors office back today to see what other options or referrals I can get. ALL of these doctor visits are running me broke with NO SOLUTION. Of course googling on scares the sh*t out of me because it could be sooo many things!!

I have the jaw, toes, foot and eye pain also. My optitrician suggested eye drops after diagnosing dry eyes ( it felt like a knife jabbibg deep in my head through my eye) and my MD suggested drinking more water & glucosomine for the cramping.

I have suffered from this also and have two theories. I've considered this may be due to histamine from fermented beverages or certain foods. Some beers due to there processing will contain more histamine then others which is why some can be tolerated more. From my reading there apears to be a connection between tmd and histamine. TMD has been known to cause neck and shoulder pain. I've also considered the impact of stress and physical exercise.try going without alcohol for a couple of weeks. This has improved my sleep quality and my tmd and neck pain. Heat, cold and a hot tub has also helped.

I also get this pain, I experience it with, mustard, beer, and wine the most, so I always worried if it is Sulfates. Like a needle is being shoved where my jaw and mouth meet.

Ok so I just read another article on I think called living strong, and it hit it right on the money. TANNINS! I kept trying to think of this when righting my first post but could not bring it to to my tongue. Here is the just of the article. If you want to read the whole thing (I forgot to copy link) just Google living strong and then subject. I do apologise as I usually always post my resources, but it's late and I'm tired.
Tannins as a Cause of Jaw Pain

"The bitterness and astringency of tannins cause a rapid increase in saliva secretion from the salivary glands, according to “Principles and Practice of Phytotherapy: Modern Herbal Medicine.” The main salivary glands in your mouth are the parotid glands, the submandibular glands and the sublingual glands. The parotids are the largest salivary glands and they are located directly over the hinges of the jaw, also called temporomandibular joints. Sudden stimulation of the parotid glands, either by ingesting tannins or from a cold draft, can lead to painful sensations and jaw muscle contraction or spasm. Jaw pain from consumption of tannins is usually mild to moderate in intensity and short-lasting. A similar phenomenon is experienced with drinking fresh, unsweetened lemon juice.
Rich Sources of Tannins

The best known sources of tannins are black tea leaves and red wine. Natural apple, grape, cranberry and pomegranate juices all contain high amounts of tannins. Sometimes tannic acid is added to juices and ciders to create more astringent tastes. Other fruits notably rich in tannins are persimmons and strawberries. Tannins are also found in beer, especially the bitter varieties."
I hope this helps!
