It seems like this thread may have been sidetracked by people with different symptoms than the OP mentioned.

Sometimes if I urinate soon after ejaculation, I will feel pain in my urethra near the tip of the penis. Also, sometimes I will feel mild discomfort even before I have urinated.

This pain is near the tip of the penis, not down by the base, and not in the prostate itself. I only clarify this because it seems as though the OP and I have roughly the same symptoms, whereas many of the rest of you have symptoms that more closely match prostatitis. I think that has muddied the waters.

Muscle issues could make sense for the pain lower in the urethra, but right at the tip there would be no muscles involved. As for me, booze consumption, bladder levels, time of day, and having to poo have no impact on this occurrence.

I have been having this problem for probably the last 5 years or so, and I don't think it has ever happened even once from sex or from a bj. I'm married and I get action pretty regularly and I have been paying attention for it to happen - so I'm pretty sure that I would have noticed. As far as I can remember it has only ever happened as a result of masturbation - and even then only once in a while. And I don't get rough with my "activities" either, so it's not like the urethra should be taking a worse beating from me than it does from anyone else.

Odd thing is that, when it happens, I can feel that I am going to have a problem *while* I am masturbating. I can't describe at the moment what it feels like, but there is a distinct feeling that happens while in the act when I KNOW that afterward there will be a problem. At that point, it's too late. Even if I stop right then (and don't cum at all) it will burn like razors right at the tip of my penis whenever I actually get around to peeing (if I pee within the next hour or so).

Sometimes my urethra will hurt at the tip of my penis as a dull ache during this period of time that I am waiting, and in these cases I found that if I even gently squeeze the head a bit it hurts just like if I was peeing. There is no blood, no discharge, and no symptoms of any kind for me apart from that razor blade feeling and the possible ache (all of which occurs for me ONLY at the tip of my penis).

Sometimes when this happens I find that my erection takes a bit longer to die down completely - it seems like it might be staying at "half staff" or thereabouts for a bit longer.

Anyway, I can't rule out an STD as I was with one fairly questionable woman back in college days without the proper "attire." I don't have any other STD symptoms, and no STDs that I am aware of. I really should get a test done for STDs anyway but I just haven't so far. I don't know if it's psychological, if it's a blood flow issue, or if it's something else. All I can say that differs greatly between sex and masturbation for me is (apart from the obvious excitement of being with another person as opposed to working solo) that I masturbate with a purpose. It's a race to the finish because it's just housekeeping for me - not romance. With sex and bj's I am allowing the pace to go naturally while with masturbation I am focusing on getting done as fast as I can. Maybe the equipment isn't getting "primed" enough - maybe blood is getting to some parts too much too quickly, or not getting to some parts enough in time.

In any case, this has been going on for years but I have perceived an increase in frequency. I'm a bit scared that I may wake up one day knowing that it will happen every time! :(

It's not a debilitating pain and I don't have the feeling that I am about to wet my pants, either. It's just a sharp pain while peeing that occurs right at the tip of my urethra.

Anyway, step 1 for me when I finally decide to do something about it will be a full STD screening and then perhaps a conversation with a urologist...

Hmm, the preview button posted my reply before it was complete. Sorry for the double-post!

Thanks god for internet :-) I am so much relieved now when I know there are many of other with the same problem.

@First I would like to answer to guest above. It is truth that this thread is more about the same problem with pain in the penis shaft, however, I found many many interesting theories and problem solvers in this thread and I would also like to keep it on top position in Google.

I must say that I agree the most with dehydration theory. Alcohol, caffeine and other substances cause bigger dehydration of whole body and therefore our urine has lower pH. As we now our sperm conspire a lot of proteins which become thicker and harder when mixed with acid (low pH). I also did consume alcohol or caffeine (coffee, black tea) before problem last three times (for me average of problem is ca. 1 per month). If sperm become thicker in our urethra, it cause pain (probably for urethra stretching).

After reading so many replays with same problem I think this problem is common (if it is not to usual or periodical), although I did masturbate a lot since 6 y/o, I am now also sex active.

In future, I will try to consume more water before having sex or masturbate (I consume not enough water anyway). I also heard before that cranberry juice is good for urethra infections...

In case it already happens there are many many things what you can do, described in previous answers. I think I will give a shot to hot/cold water (around penis or at penis shaft), pelvic push, vertical position of penis, drinking more water. Most of solutions, described in previous post, I have already tried before, but this one above seems kind of more innovative/new

I will report if I find out anything new.

Best wishes,
GT

I'm 23 years old and have the same experience, and have found if you take a night time pain reliver the pain will go away quickly. I of course would not recommend doing so with any alcoholic beverage.

I really hate this.. It's been happening more frequently with me since I started drinking a lot more water. It keels me up at night. I guess I'll have to adjust my sex schedule..

i get the same exact problem. 100% if ive been drinking alcohol but also happens if ive drunk a lot of liquid before sex/masturbation. i cant find any releif apart from urinating but its feels as if i need to even when ive just emptied my bladder.

According to the internet, you all are going to die.

24 m. I finally decided to look into this after 5 or 6 years of it happening about once a month. Always seems to be after consuming alcohol and ejaculating. Definitely glad to see I'm not the only one (although I don't wish this on anyone!). This may sound weird, but putting my penis in a cup of ice water helps. It just numbs it until the pain goes away. It's strange that we all seem to be around the same age. Will this go away?

26 year old here, started about a year or two ago when I drank alcohol and masturbated. I've tried a few things, like urinating before masturbation or trying not to urinate after, but it always happens to some degree. Like others have said, taking a shower seems to help a little but I'm definitely going to try some other tips people posted (glass of warm water, for example). What really strikes me as strange, and why theories about permanent damage don't make sense to me, is that if I have like TWO drinks, even just two shots, it still happens. If I don't have any drinks, it happens maybe 1% of the time. Very very strange and I was worried enough to get checked for prostate cancer (negative of course) so it's good to read that other people are in the exact same position.

To deal with this, hold your urinating for 30 minutes after ejaculation. By that time, the prostate should shrink enough to allow easy urinating, with out discomfort.

It's normal. The vas deferens constricts during ejaculation in order to isolate the path for semen and not urine. Just try waiting a little longer afterward.

I finally found a borderline solution to this. First of all, it's definitely an issue of temporary irritation in your urethra caused by the combination of semen and acidic and or alcoholic urine. You can try to hold your urine after masturbating, but it will probably hurt anyway until you finally go to the bathroom.

HERE IS WHAT WORKS, already mentioned by someone else to a degree: get in the shower. make sure the water flow isn't too strong or too hot, and let the water fall into the tip of your penis. what I discovered is not only did the extra water wash out extra semen (more than I thought would be there), but it fills up your urethra and causes you to feel like you have to go to the bathroom. just keep repeating this: fill with water, pee, fill with water, pee, probably three or four times. I've done this numerous times and every time the pain goes away nearly 100% instead of having to wait 45 minutes to an hour. Awesome! It's still worth avoiding the drinking+masturbation combo (or drinking too much coffee, etc. + masturbation combo), but this has worked for me numerous times to make the pain away more or less instantaneously. try it out!

I'm 16 and use to have this problem alot after masturbation and it hasn't happened for a really long time until today. Usually i just go to sleep and take a nap and its gone when i get up, but today i was even more concerned because i also noticed one red bump on the side of my penis. I have never had sex with anyone or even any sexual contact, so im unsure if these might be linked and also scared. If anyone knows anything please let me know.

ouuucchhhh!!!! i had this problem bad! i told my doctor who seemed to ignore me eh  i then complained to my doctor that the problem was worsening, i the went under a medical examination to fing the cause of the problem.. to be honest i did'nt even realise that it was occuring when i was consuming alchol until a specalist told me o.O  the problem occurs because when you drink your muscles relax.. but when you ejaculate 2 of your musles near your urethra tense up to push the semen out.. but because your muscles are relaxed and dont function proply it causes a blockage, the best way to PREVENT!!!!! this is to drink a couple of pints of water 5mins beofore intercourse or masterbation to help flush the 'blockage' out. if the problem still occurs drink alot of water and bathe penis in hot water. :-) DON'T TAKE ANY PAIN KILLERS AS THEY ALSO RELAX MUSCLES!:-)
