I too have had much difficulty lying on my left side and back since I had aortic valve replacement and a triple bypass 3 years ago. When lying on my side, my blood pressure drops, sometimes as much as 25 points both systolic and diastolic, and I have an uneasiness in my chest that forces me to change to my right side. I've had Echocardiograms and have discussed with my cardiologist, who cannot explain. My surgeon refers me to my cardiologist. I'm 44 and really would like to sleep better - right shoulder and back are hurting. Anyone have similar problem? Any advise?

hey, im 20 now aand have been having heart pains when i laydown on my left or right side, once i have it in my heart area it does not matter what possition im in it kills so i have to get up walk around and watch tv to distract me. I went for a million tests including to see if i had a blood clot and everything came up clear. It wasnt until i was watching TV that i saw an add for how bad yasmin birth control was, so i decided to get off of it - also because i was fainting and feeling ill on it. Once i got off of it the pains went away, recently i was out of birth control and i dont have time to go to the doctors so decdided to fill the rest of my percription and go back to yasmin, sure enough tonight the pain has re-apeared again. for your 16 year olds if u find your self on yasmin or yasin get off of it now before its to late! i assure u i will promptly be making time to go see another doctor once again!

I have a pain in my heart that feels like my heart is withering away or being eaten up in one section, when I lay on my left side -> I am a 28 female. I have only had the pain a few times in the last month. I figure it maybe something that I should see a doctor about. I lay on my left side to type on my laptop in bed and being in this position for more than four hours a night could be causing it. Especially since I am on a rough metal spring mattress bed.

This is a response to the original post (singerman) about not being able to sleep on the back or left side due to what to be perceived as heart pain.

I have suffered with the same problem for seven years.  And although I suspected that it was related to my Acid Reflux, as there is a “sympathetic” nerve that can send pain signals to the heart area if the esophagus is heavily bombarded with stomach acids. I would be able to minimize it by eating dinner early and taking Ant-Acids before bedtime, but it did not solve the problem. Well, I'm happy to share that in the last two weeks I'm back to sleeping on my back, and even on the left side again.  How? I'll tell you.

An ulcerated and over productive stomach can be caused by bacteria, and ulcers are therefore sometimes treated with Antibiotics, but again, that is not a cure, and who wants to be on that over and over? Not me. Instead, I stumbled on Colloidal Silver when my cat had been attacked by another animal.  I treated her both inside and out with miraculous results. So, I kept her on it, and started taking myself as well.  She acts as if it is catnip even though it's tasteless.  She also stopped vomiting after her outdoor hunts, and I'm just thrilled about that too.

Thus, IF your problem stems from an ulcerated stomach due to bacteria, Colloidal Silver (which was the antibiotics before the invention of antibiotics) will do a better job than antibiotics with no side effects, and no chance of it becoming resistant.  Actually, there will be side effects, except for, they'll all be all positive. A couple of teaspoons twice a day and you should see a difference in a few weeks, and after a month the pain at night should be but a bad memory.

There is a lot of information about Colloidals on the web, and many places from where to buy it, you can even make it yourself.
Best wishes.
P.s. I also put it in a dying plant, and it is now my healthiest plant.

Well here I am 16 about the same age here as the rest here with similar problems
I have been having chest pains the left torso area around the general area of the heart, some times it goes away quickly some time takes couple of hours
I went to the doctors they took X-rays, heart beat scan, and electrolite(SP?) or some thing like that to see if my body had enough energy
found nothing wrong, but during that process I noticed that the doctors did not and thought it was nothing, I saw a bulge just ride through a vein and the just dissapear and few minutes later pain goes away for couple of weeks
and now here I am AGAIN with pains, this time I get the pains when I lay or my left or right side or take medium to large breaths, what should I do?

I have the pain too. I'm a paramedic and see mi's at times. While yea there are silent killers and everyone should be checked, there are a few things you can do to put your mind at Ease. If you can reproduce the pain by palpating, twisting, breathing, or any other way, then it's most likely muscular or reflux. Try Advil before bed. If that helps, most likely not cardiac. If it does not reproduce it, it's just a dull pain, get it checked. Could be nothing or something. Anxiety plays into manifesting symptoms. Most heart attacks are not mistake able. Sweating light headed nausea crushing non reproduce able pain. Take aspirin if your really nervous and call 911. Unless your allergic to aspirin. Take slow deep breaths. Your heart can hurt from lack of o2. Chostocondritis is a big player in chest pain. Anyway, there is some advice. Always consult your md.

I am a 33 year old female... I have been having this same pain since I was in high school and still continue to have this chest pain when Im lying down on my left side and/or back... Very intense, almost stabbing pain which hurts the deeper I breathe in and out, and the only way to make it subside is to lay on my right side or get up.  Laying on my right side for as many years as this has been going on has induced other types of pains on the right side including my right shoulder, right ear, and right hip as they seem to go numb... I have gone as far as going to Mayo Clinic in MN and NO ONE can figure out what is wrong!!!  The first time I experienced it I thought I was having a heart attack...

I have had CT scans, EKG's, echocardiograms, xrays, an EMG, pulmonary tests, and many blood tests all to come up with NOTHING!  I was starting to think the doctors think I'm crazy, but I swear there is really a pain!!!!  I dont get quality sleep and havent for a long time... The neurologist from Mayo Clinic said that it is most likely a damaged nerve somewhere in between a rib and that there are so many tiny nerves there that it would be nearly impossible to find which one is being triggered.  I have tried injections in my spine and those havent relieved the pain either.  At this time, my dr wants to try ametriptolene(sp) at night and possibly add lyrica later to see if that combo of meds will do the trick... I pretty much have given up, again, and am probably going to have to live/deal with the pain/anxiety/sleep deprivation/depression all caused by this....

To anyone who posted on this, please let me know if you were ever lucky enough to get a better diagnosis/treatment for this chest pain!!!

And good luck to all of you!

I too have a problem, just now again, when I lay on my left or right side, does not seem to matter, my heart goes wild, seeming to struggle to function, blood pressure goes up, and I feel awful.  I try not to sleep on my side but I do anyhow. I have been to the doctor many times about this and the doctor always says I am ok, including cardiologist, but I do not feel ok.  It is alarming to find have this feeling.  I do have a myocardio bridge which I suspect is the problem but my doctor always says its most likely bloats causing this sensation.  What ever it is, it often bothers me and I feel one day I will have a stroke in the middle of the night due to this problem. I have awakened once with numb legs, could not walk, another time it can be arm is numb, but most of the time it is just high blood pressure and discomfort in the heart. I almost feel my doctor thinks I am imagining this which I am sure I am not, I think he is missing something and I am not sure who to turn to.  Any ideas?

Are you working out at the gym?

No, I do not go to the gym but I do take daily breeze walks. Do some exercises at home. Slightly over weight, need to loose 10 pounds.

Recently went to the emergency room with the very same symptoms. When I laydown on my left side or on my back I have such pain and pressure... They gave me a motrin and sent me home. They said all of my lab work came out fine. And refered me to a Cardiologist. I don't really know what to do.
