I have same issues. Doctor says look at my acid reflux but at the same time it all came back for a second time with back an shoulder spasms. also when spasms happen this is when I feel the lump in my throat an feel like swallowing is hard along with getting to the end of a full breath or yawn. When this happens it panics me and causes anxiety problems. When wife and kids walk on my back or rub my back hard in the area it feels better. Hard to figure out but I have been able to calm panic attacks and anxiety by figuring out that stretches and massages help relieve it. Hoping physical therapy along with a scope down my throat gets to the bottom of this. Wish all others well and makes anxiety issues go away to know that others have the same thing. I felt like it was just me

Hello: your symptoms sound very consistent with esophageal stricture or possible hiatal hernia. I'd have it checked out. Other causes of dysphagia could also be related to you neck. If u had neck pain, jaw pain, infrascapular pain, could be originating in your cervical spine

Three months ago I had notable acid refulx and annonying heartburn, unusual for me but definitely down to a summer of heavier alcohol intake than normal (Beer and wine).

I also had a couple of notable physical 'incidents' - collapsing in awful shoulder left chest cramps while hedgecutting a high hedge and a further collapse which floored me for a good half hour a few weeks later, felt like ribs crushing.

Then, on vacation after swimming alot - breast-stroke only but I NEVER swim outside vacations - I first noticed a pain when swallowing, radiating from left side oesophagus across my chest; about level with left nipple.

Swallowing pain has continued on a pain scale of 2/3 out of 10 when eating food. Rarely pain when drinking but I can 'sense' cold drinks going down past that left area. Have cut down alcohol and exercise diminished swallowing pain ocassionally, but still get that 'burn' inside and aches around left side rib cage and also a niggling nightmare ache deep left centre chest under left shoulder blade. Also suffer a constant raw sore throat at nape of neck.

Attended docs who sounded me and said heart and lungs clear but referred me for xray to check out further.

No results back as yet and coming on here I note many with same throat/swallowing/back and chest symptoms. A bit of a relief as oesophageal cancer was obviously my first hypochondriac self-diagnosis.

I shall update with results/progress.

But does anyone know the definitive oesophagus cancer symptoms? Should pain persist or come and go? I would like some educated info as I'd like to know how much/far to ask my Doc to investigate without looking insane. 46 y/old male, previous good health no problems.

I've started to experience the exact same thing since yesterday... I'm a bit worried, you described it perfectly, electric shock... I know it's been a year and I pray you are well and healthy. Could I know what happened after, what kind if treatment did you get... Basically what's next.

I'm relieved to have found people who are going through similar issues as mine! I went to the hospital for this irritation in my throat last year. It didn't necessarily hurt, but I almost felt a raw sensation on the right side of my throat when I swallowed. When that irritation would seem to fade away after a couple days, it felt like I had a lump in my throat. I checked the back of my throat for lumps/bumps, and never found anything. I remember getting irritated with the pain and ended up going to the ER, they did an X-ray and found nothing significantly wrong. Another year has passed and now the irritation is accompanied with a sharp pain inbetween my shoulder blades, on my right side. I'm also experiencing a dull pain in the back of my neck on the right side as well as earache. All problems seem to stem from my right side. I went to the ER again recently, and said my throat was not infected, and neither was the ear I was having pain in. He suggested that I see an ENT because it could be barotraum. (Doubt it)I seem to get relief while I sleep, then as soon as I get my day started, the pain creeps up on me. I plan to see an ENT (Ear Nose Throat Specialist) to hopefully help me figure out what's going on.

I have a crippling muscle ache in my back and when i swallow or burp it creates a sharp pain in my chest and I constantly feel like there is something in my throat. I was taken to hospital today because I had some trouble moving and then shallow breathing. My doctor doesn't know what it is either and wants a second opinion. He say s to take 2 ibuprofen 3 times a day for a week and if that doesn't help go back to the doctors. He also said it could be either a viral infection or pleurisy. Hoped this helped some of you guys out :) but i'm going to try ibuprofen.

Everyone here mentions anxiety. I bet we're taking benzo meds. I'm certain this made mine worse. Acid reflux and a hernia make perfect sense. Glad I found this site.

just be careful-found out when I couldn't swallow that the getting sick, not being able to eat without throwing up, pain that would spread to my shoulder, neck , arm, etc. was really a blockage in my carotid artery--I had a major heart attack 4 years ago and didn't have insurance for a few years so kept thinking this waa just anxiety or acid reflex at its worse- finally got insurance so found out I was having little strokes where I was only talking out of a little bit of my mouth but looked ok to other people.Have to wait for the rest of the tests
