OMG!!! I have just recently had one of these painful bumps come up infront of my ear. It feels like a knot and is painful but I didn't get hit by anything. My mom told me just to put ice on it and watch it for the next few days. She said they may be caused by an ear infection. have you had one of those recently? Cause my dad had one and his whole side of his face swelled up.

Ok, I'm glad that I'm not alone in this. For the past 5 days I have had a large painful bump in the same area (right next to my earlobe on my jawbone). Its the size of a ping pong ball - cut in half - and it's very uncomfortable and painful. I can't even hold a phone up to that ear because of it.

I know it's too large to be a pimple. And I don't know what else it could be. I read all of the other posters, most of which were other people just replying to say that they had the same problem. And a few suggested lymph nodes, but how are they certain thats what it is?

I am growing in wisdom teeth, but when I feel inside my mouth I can't feel the bump from inside it, only on the outside of my jawbone so I don't think mine would be related to that. And I also recently had an ear infection which is of course what I thought the cause of it was but now with the ear infection gone the painful bump is still hanging around and it isn't getting any smaller!!

Can anyone help with this? Because I don't want to have to go to the hospital if it's not an emergency (money issues and all).

I've just noticed that I have the same thing. It's a lump/knot under my skin (not visible) located in between my jawbone and cheekbone right in front of my left ear. It is about the size of a nickle. When I press on it, it feels like its swollen or like a bruise feels when pressed on. After pressing on it a few times, it now feels like its pulsing. One post says it could be caused from not drinking enough water which may be my case, but it is such a relief knowing that it's pretty common. I'm just going to drink more water and wait it out for a few days.

I really think it might be swollen lympnodes because that's what I've been reading everywhere.

Hi guys-

We've all got swollen lymph nodes, which are part of your body's immune system. When they swell, they are fighting off some type of infection. However, if they do not go away over the course of a few days/weeks or if there is pain associated with them- you need to go see a doctor to find out what your body is fighting. Usually it's not a serious thing but it can indicate cancer or an std.

Good luck everyone! Hope this helps.

has anyone gotten any concrete responses to these near-ear bumps? i woke up with one yesterday (googled the symptoms, found this thread) and was told by a friend that it could be a swollen lymph node. this same friend also said the words "root canal" and i then stopped listening. but if you're just ignoring it, don't. see a doctor. that's what i'm doing.

i just noticed mine like 15 minutes ago. it's at the back of my jaw, next to my left ear. it doesn't hurt, but it's pretty annoying. it feels the same as a lymph node, but i've never had one just pop up like this. usually they're always at the same place like my neck. there's nothing serious about this right?

Hello everyone. I just noticed today that I have one of these lumps in the same place as you all. It is about the size of a nickel.

I am sick very often (2+ times a month) with allergies that turn into colds and other various things and my lymph nodes always swell. In fact the ones under my ear, jaw, and my armpits are swollen right now but it has never been accompanied by a lump like this before.

It is worth noting that I have had a fatty ball on the right side of my neck on my coratid artery since I was a child. I didn't have it removed for obvious reasons. It has never gotten bigger or hurt at all. This lump is on my jaw on the left side and it hurts terribly. There is very little protrusion through the skin and I can move it around.

Of course I am concerned. My doctor takes a long time to get in to see so I was checking to see if I need to go to the emergency room. Has anyone gotten any concrete answers to this from their doctors? Have they just gone away with time? Thanks for all of your posts. I'm glad I'm not alone!

Well evereyone, I will confirm I was just deathly sick, took antibiotics and all of a sudden today I feel this bump, I thought it was a zit really deep seeded but realized that you all have very similar things going on ... That sounds right as to what the task of the lymph nodes do, they are getting rid or using the lymph node as a devise to clear out the viruses ... I am more concerned as my mother had lymphoma this was her 10 year anniversary of her death, but now my uncle and aunt both have it. These are all symptoms of the body trying to rid ourselves of the toxic food and things we eat and consume and put on our body daily... I have to tell you, there are these things called ear cones that can be done to get rid of sinus and conjestion and all the infectious things that are held with in your neck and back and throat. While the cone or candle they call it is lit, it draws up the gross stuff. It does work I administered these when I was living in california, but now moved back to michigan. But It did work but you should also have a massage to push through all the areas they are stuck in as well. Oh and you can get colonic treatments too, but I know this is a lot of information, but in all honesty these remedies, along with so many others, are more homepathic...
So good luck everyone, I say get them checked out, I just keep getting more and more, I have so many tiny ones on my neck and now this one, I'm just scared, and Lord knows I don't want to do any cancer treatments or even declare that I have cancer. SO, Sorry for going on and on... I guess Iwas bored too...lol Take care evreyone, better safe than sorry...

I have had the same thing for several years. I frequently get these little knots under my skin infront of, behind, and even on my ears. They are very painful. They do go away and then another one will come about. often in the same spots. Not sure what it is though.....

have the same thing going on right now. right by my ear. came to somewhat of a head (and i know this is going to be pretty gross for some) so i popped it and some puss came out. i figured the lump was just a build up of oily secretions so i kept on squeezing hoping to get the remainder of it out. no such luck, i continued until a tiny black dot came out of the pore, and i figured it was something like a blackhead, until a few more came out. i left it alone and just recently went back and gave it a good squeeze. this time a really dark puss came out. i am at a loss and have no idea what the heck is going on... help anyone?
