Hey I just got the same thing this morning..... and from what i have been reading so far it most likely been caused by a constant jaw movement. like the past week i just took up chewing a LOT of gum again.. so im thinking that might have been what caused myn? maybe it caused some one elses bump as well?

I totally agreed with your comment above, so I gave you a positive vote. So do you think that you can update us now? Thanks (my 6 year old daughter just got this earlier this morning).

I first found the same lump when I was twelve and have gone to many doctors and specialists for it. My lump got so big a few times that it made the entire left side of my face look like the elephant man while the right side of my face remained normal. The doctors couldn't tell me anything. As I got older it just stayed a lump. When I got sick it would get a tad bigger and then go back down to its same size. It would stay sore but nothing ever came of it. A couple of years ago I started having problems with it getting super touchy so I had my new doctor take a look and he said it was only my body collecting extra stuff and that it was fine. He went on to tell me sometimes they go away and like in my case they may not. Mine stayed because the infection calcified and formed the knot. I'm pretty sick most of the time due to no immune system so therefore mine irritates me all the time and is very sore and touchy. If your body needs a place to store extra junk it's trying to filter it will store it in your glands. So if you get one and it goes away and then you get another one watch your diet and vitiman intake. This may sound strange but if you keep getting new ones there's infection coming from somewhere or something. Hope this helped!

i have the same exact thing and i noticed it this morning. its right in front of my left ear and it feels like i have a little marble at the wayyy back of my left cheek. I made a dentist appointment for it tomorrow but this has happened to me before and it went away by the next morning. my doctor told me it could be because of the grinding of teeth in the middle of the night if you have an intense dream or nightmare or if your stressed you could be clenching your jaw a bit too much subconciously while your asleep. the lump will most likely go away within 24 hours

I have the exact same thing. Im going to guess since so many people have had it and no one has responded back that this must be an isolated symptom that goes away with time. Right?

Hello everyone, I (like the other hundred ppl on this board) have the lumps. I have 2, 1 is located under the jaw bone right under the ear, the other is like right in the middle of the muscle. When I first discovered it I freaked out because I've been using chewing tobacco for about 3 years so I assumed it was cancer. After reading all these posts I feel better, but what piques my curiousity is that everyone is getting it not only in the same place, but on the left side. Anyhow I'm going to the dentist on wednsday (the 16th) so when I get back from that I will tell you all how it goes.

Found this thread about lumps in front of the ear at the jaw line and it reminded me of the painful lumps that I used to find on my face and head. I am fifty-five years old and I have not had any of these painful lumpy things pop up for quite a while. The ones in front of my ear were always very painful but they went away fairly quickly. The neck lumps used to hurt something awful. They would shoot up on the side of my neck just behind my ear and down a bit. I decided that all of these painful lumps were lymph nodes doing their job. This fascinating thread led me to discover that the glands located in front of the ear all called the parotid glands.
Here is a wonderful diagram of the entire lymph system of the head and neck.
If any part of your body stays swollen or sore for more than two weeks, it may be time to head to the doctor to be on the safe side.

It seems I have the same exact thing... I discovered it yesterday evening. It is sore, and about an inch by half inch in size, but hasn't gotten any bigger (or smaller) overnight. It does move slightly and feels deep in the tissue, but messing with it just makes it hurt more. I see many people here getting this after a bout of sickness, which makes perfect sense for a swollen lymph node, but I haven't been sick -at all-. I've always been pretty healthy, have no allergies to speak of, and rarely even get colds. My wisdom teeth have been gone over a year now, so I doubt it has to do with that, but I do have very annoying tonsil stones, and I can't deny looking for any sort of excuse to have my tonsils removed, haha... I did have a harmless cyst removed on my foot a little over 6 months ago, but I had had that since I was very little (I'm 21 now) and this new lump just suddenly appeared. Anyway. I wish all the people who said they were going to the doctors and would post again actually did... but the fact that I've had no sicknesses to trigger this concerns me a little. If it doesn't start to get smaller in a couple of days, or if it gets any bigger, worse, or more painful, I am making an appointment with a local ENT and WILL post the results. If I don't post again after a while, consider it a good thing... Ahhh, nothing like finding mysterious, painful lumps on your face to start off a tough college semester...

Recently I noticed the same thing:- a small marble size lump where my jaws connect just before my right ear. It is a little painful especially if I fool around with it. I also noticed a slight discomfort on the right side of my face. I showed it to my doctor about three weeks ago and he said I should keep an eye on it, and if it get worse to come back and see him, well thats three weeks ago and it is still the same. Anyone has any further knowledge of the cause of this symtom?

I had a similar thing right in the same spot. I actually felt it appear during a long run. It was really weird. The other day I was poking it and squeezing at it & it popped out with clear liquid & blood. The thing that really concerns me is that as the fluid came out, I could feel a draining sensation in my sinuses. Now when I pull or push on the spot I get a sensation in my sinuses. Could this be connected to the sinuses somehow?

I have the same thing. I've had it for at least 2 yrs. I showed my OB when I was pregnant with my daughter or son, don't remember which -- he said it was a swollen lymph node that just stayed enlarged. Well... I went to the doctor for a sinus infection this past week and mentioned it (new doctor, not the OB) and I'm now being referred to an ENT. So of course I'm worried and have looked up things on the Internet. One thing I discovered is that this apparently is the post auricular lymph node and its swelling as an isolated occurance is mostly associated with rubella. Which I would think in my case is unlikely. What I've read is that the underlying cause is so wide and varied that I neither feel reassured and panicked. I just have to go have it evaluated I guess. Just now because of my sinus infection, I feel pretty crappy all over so that is making me feel nervous. It also seems a bit larger (because I'm sick?). I don't know but seems based on this board I'm not alone.

Ive gotten that every time I have had an ear infection. Its always been a swollen lymph node caused by infection. Antibiotics always cleared it right up. :-D
