I was reading the comments and noticed that most responders say they have grandkids so i must assume (due to the fact that no one has commented in a year at least) that a lot of these people are in their 50's give or take. my father is in this age group and grew up in a strict lutheran home. very old school. i might also assume that many responders grew up in a house like this or (if they are my fathers age) have hippies for parents, this is how my mother was raised. Having been raised around both view points, I believe that a mix of both is appropriate. Having said that, I smoke marijuana regularly (resident of WA,, recreationally legal) as well as smoke cigarettes daily. I smoke outside whichever I smoke, and seeing as how many people who smoke cigarettes smoke around kids (its more commomn then even I thought) I, though I would never do so, would much rather (if I had to choose between the lesser of two evils) see someone smoking marijuana around a child then cigarettes. (assuming no one blows the smoke in a child's face.) The amount of carcinogens in marijuana or cigarettes is a rather moot point, but since it has been brought up, I will say that cancer has killed people in my family from smoking cigarettes. No one in my family ever got told by a doctor that they got cancer specifically from marijuana smoke (and for that to be relevant to anyone else's point, this person would have HAD TO NEVER SMOKE ANYTHING BUT MARIJUANA EVER to make certian as to the origin of the cancer.) What people really need to care about s if people drink or do drugs (cocaine, meth and heroin) around children. Or if people physically or mentally abuse kids. I once had friends whose children were taken away for smoking marijuana and 3 months later the foster parents killed that child. Think about that. Have a wonderful day to all who read this.

Science actually proved that weed kills cancer cells not causes it. Do some research. And as far as this question goes. My cousin smokes around her kids. Her oldest is a straight A student planning on going to college next year, her middle has special needs due to a horrible car accident but she's perfectly fine health wise in fact she's made a lot of progress since the accident, and her youngest is the most mature out of the bunch, very social boy and just as good as grades as his oldest sister. There are no long term effects. As all 3 of them are healthy children. They're all good kids. They know what she's doing but they were raised to accept it. The youngest has no interest in it at all and neither does the oldest. They know what it is and they know that they shouldn't do it. It's all about acceptance and tolerance. If you think it's bad then that's your opinion.

I certainly don't condone my daughter n her damn boy friend smoking weed around my 4 yr ols grand daughter. Yet when I say something I get a threat from my daughter that I will never see my grand child again. What legal rights do I have in ny to even take her out of this bad situation. I want to save my grand daughter n my dumb ass daughter doesn't get it n let alone all 3 of her bfs brothers smoke this mess n i smell the horrible odor when I visit.
