I have had clicking in my right ear as long as I can remember.  Most of the time I just tune it out, but sometimes it is too loud to ignore.  I also have tinnitus, and the two sounds are very different.  I have no idea what causes either in my case, however, I have taken Benedryl every day for years, and it's never made any difference.

I had this same problem and read where someone had the tapping for 5 years and doctors could not do anything for it. I read where it may be connected to sinus and used a product that was a form of acupuncture. It worked and it has now been nearly three months since the tapping quit. What a relief.

Hi, I'm having a similar problem, only at first I only had scratchings in my ears, which led me to believe I only had a bug in my ear and could drown him out.  I attempted to hold my head underwater, and the scratchings turned into poundings which whereas the scratchings where mere annoyances, the poundings were intense and painful.  They have no real rythm, just consistency and pain.  I'm going to my doctor today to find out what it is, but I'm seriously freaked out right now.

Hi, I believe you may have 1 or more baby spiders in your ears. What you described is actually the symptoms of a spider in your ear. It is not that uncommon. Often they nest in warm places in the winter... and enter the ear when you are sleeping.
I have exactly what you have... and I need to go to the doctor tomorrow to get this little critter or critters out of there. They won't hurt you or bite you. They are harmless... and yes they start acting up when you come to a rest. This is not the same thing as Crackeling you get in your ears after a cold... because that is in both ears... but this tapping is ONLY in one ear. I did just get over a cold so if it is not spiders... then I really don't know what it is. Let us know after your doctors visit. I need to go to. Amazing how many people getting the same thing or symptoms.

If it is a constant tap, tap, tap with perfect timing like a heartbeat... then guess what it is your heart. There is another condition... do google research... on this condition where people are able to hear their heart beat in their ear. I forgot the name of the condition.

BUT you DO need to go to an ENT (ear, nose & throat) doctor. He will tell you EXACTLY what it is. Probably before you even finish your sentence discribing the symptoms... he will tell you what it is. My brother is a regular doctor... not a ENT and he has found I know at least one spider in someones ear. The ENT's are VERY familar with spiders in ears... or the heart tapping condition. So they will be able to help.

I have a click while I swallow. The same right ear. Use to have many ear infections when I was a kid.
My doctor connects everything with my allergies.....
I do not know what to do.....
I am getting special shots with my allergy doctor.
My ENT doctor put me on ALEGRA and gave me the oral steroids. But it is obviously that my problem is still here.
I think the next step is : Steroids directly into my ear.
Is any one knows what I am talking about?
Is any one knows how to forget about this discomfort?

I too have morse code tones in my right ear. Just came back from EENT. He cleaned my ears--still have noise. Will take more tests soon. He says may be benign growth in ear. Stay tuned.

I developed "the Morse code condition" after getting the new flu strain. For 4 days now, I'm afraid to turn my head too quickly because that sound is overwhelming. Do you have a solution to this problem now?

I agree anyone that has TINITUS or thinks they have tinitus should go to a different page. I had the tapping last year and found it helpful to put a bit ot toilet paper into my ear .. the crinkling sound helped drown out the tapping. Just when i thought it was gone (after using nasonex). one night I had to put earplugs in to drown out my husbands light snoring and there it was tap tap tap .... when i took the earplugs out i couldn't hear the tapping.. I've had it both ways and the constant tapping day or night is just the worst so I'm grateful to have it only at night when and if I have to put earplugs in .... it's the strangest thing.? Right now it's becoming sporatic, some nights i don't hear it even with the earplugs. I also noticed one time while i was in bed (earplugs in) that when i moved my head sharply in the opposite direction of my affected ear it seemed to stop or maybe just go quieter. I believe it might be stress related (what isn't!!) as we were going through some very difficult times. Also I'm starting to wonder if it has something to do with jaw clenching. I'm making every effort to 'relax' my jaw at night ... not only does it help me fall asleep quicker but TAP ON WOOD my tapping seems to have gone away.... hopefully for good. I still believe it is somehow related to sinus issues as the nasonex definately relieved the tapping when it was at it's worst I think I have chronic post nasal drip so it's likely as that gets worse the tapping gets worse..

Okay, my symptoms are almost the same as everyone else with the difference that my ear clicking isn't constant its only when my nose (right nostril) is clogged/stuffy so when I have a cold I cant sleep ! and the time of day doesn't matter. Now I have a cold as of right now so I'm running off of like 2 hours of sleep a night. I got so fed up with this that yesterday i bought breathe right nasal strips and those earplugs that mold to your ears and i actually got some sleep last night. I have been to a couple doctors and they think its nothing, if it was nothing i wouldn't be sitting awake at 3:30 in the morning wanting to rip my right ear off. i don't know if anybody else has what i have and might possibly have some answers but I have had this for a couple years now and still don't have a clue what it is. if anybody can help that would be amazing ! I'm a 16 year old girl so i would prefer not to live my whole life with this, because that would suck...

You should give the Nasonex a try ..... or get yourself a netty pot and rinse your nasal cavities out with salt water... both seemed to help me.
Doctors are basically of no use for this issue ... that's why we're all here looking for answers.
