I am scheduled to have my pins removed in 2 weeks and I am wondering if there is a partial, general sedation when having this done..
had hammertoe surgery oct 10th. Having pin removed in two weeks hopefully and having screws removed in 4 weeks after. I'm in so much pain wish I never did surgery.

I broke my 4th toe and it healed incorrectly, head it rebroken and pins put in, went back at 4 weeks to have the pins removed and they were too stiff so we left in another week. Went back in at 5 weeks and was very anxious since removing the stitches at week 4 hurt. I didn't even realize the doctor was removing the first pin until it came out. When it was pulled all the way out it hurt a little. The 2nd pin, same thing, didn't hurt until it came out the tip and it was mild pain. I did take 3 ibuprofen before the appt. Between weeks 4 and 5 I started walking around my house a bit without the boot on so that the pins would loosen up. The doctor didn't tell me to do that, it just made sense. Not sure if it helped, but pin removal was pretty painless. I think also waiting a bit longer helps with the pain, my broken bone is pretty much healed.
Everyone is different. I just had a bunionectomy and correction for hammertoe on two toes. After reading that the pain from this would make me suicidal I was shocked to find the pain pretty much non existent. But getting the stitches yanked out today (including one whip stitch about 8" long) was horrifying and I bawled through the entire process. Five hours later I'm still having a shitload of pain. I'm already having fits about the pins coming out as my doctor has the bedside manner of a wounded viper on meth. Some people have tons of pain, some none at all. Also depends on the attitude and experience of whoever's doing it.
Hi. I had mine toe done on Dec 11,2017. I have not taken any pain medication because I'm not in pain, just a little discomfort. I have to have the pin removed in 6 wks and I will admit I'm a little scared of what pain I will have but right now it is fine.
When you got the pins out, did it shorten your toes? My doctor did the wrong surgery. He was supposed to shorten my 2nd toe. He did hammer toe surgery (I don't have hammer toes) and it didn't shorten the toe. He was going to leave the pins in 6 weeks, but now says he'll take them out at 2 or 3 weeks and that will magically make my toe shorter. Did getting the pin out at 2 weeks make your toe shorger?
My doctor refused to do both feet at the same time and I am glad he didnt. 6 weeks of limited weight bearing would be impossible if both were done. Had both feet done 4 months apart. It's painful but be sure to get a nerve block before surgery and take your pain pills after. I hate pain medication but I went slightly over on one dose and it really hurt. Taking the pins out didn't hurt at all. Be sure to go to physical therapy afterwards. It really helps. Worst part is a year later they are aching due to the cold weather.
I’m having surgery in 2 months so i don’t know much about after surgery pain yet. But the bunion on your big toe can get worse. My doctor told me after looking at the x rays that my 2nd toe is starting to turn into a hammertoe because my big toe has moved under my second toe bc of the bunion. And trust me bunions can get worse. I can remember having this bunion at 12 bc i refused to wear flip flops bc let’s face it.. kids are mean. But anyway it has gotten ALOT worse since then. I started having bad pains in it when i was 14. But all those years of softball from Coach pitch through high school probably didn’t help since cleats are so narrow. I’m 28 now and my big toe is completely sideways which has caused the bone in my foot leading to the toe to go crooked. In short Get the bunion surgery before the pain is excruciating bc it has also caused arthritis to set in that foot. Sorry i’m a rambler but just wanted you to see that or Will get worse and cause another hammertoe.
I am on week 3 of right foot bunionectomy with distal metetarsal osteotomy and hammertoe correction on toes 2, 3, and 4. My surgery was done on 1/15/18 and stitches were removed 1/29/18. I have to keep my pins in for at least the next two week. I wasnt expecting such a lengthy recovery, honestly I didn’t know what to expect. This is extremely damaging on my finances as I a a server and in the state I live in doesn't offer short term disablility. Anyway, the basis if my rant really has nothing to do with what I was venting about...can someone please tell me how long the pins are (full length) that are sticking out of the tips of my toes. I can’t find the answer anywhere on the web. That’s for putting up with my rant and have a great day.
P.S. you could make up a crazy story and I honestly wouldn’t know the difference anyway

I have had major gluteal mini.us torn off the bone with the gluteal minus torn I also had a labrum tear repair at the same time. I was in a spika body cast 6 weeks . That pin was bent the do tor stated it was longer than normal. I now have a sausage toe. My pin cane out yesterday. OUCH !
I had hammer toe surgery on Wednesday. It’s a little uncomfortable but not horrible. Taking Tylenol. The pins come out 6 weeks after surgery. I would not do two feet at a time. Walking maybe difficult.
Hey guys! I had hammertoe surgery this morning . I went to Dr. Ravaei In Beverly Hills 03/07/18 . Both my second toes are long and arch developing corns for years. I did LOCAL anesthesia therefore, I was awake the whole time.
The needle to put the toes asleep was Just a 5 second pinch which was good . It was only around the toe not the knee . My toes were asleep right away . The staff was great and the doctor was very comforting . I could feel slightly the surguy but the ONLY small 2 second pain was the pin going in. After that I did not feel a thing .. I walked to the car and got my meds ... there is NO pain walking if you are slow and careful . The pills take the pain away so it’s super easy . My feet are currently on top of 5 pillows and it feels so relaxing with the pills. It is not as bad as I thought . I already forgot about the pinches .. they will remove my pins in 2 weeks so I will keep y’all updated !
No one has seen my feet since I was in the 5th grade (college now) because I was so embarrassed. When the doctor quickly showed me the results after he stitched me up I was so happy I can finally wear my Sandals for my bday this summer ! It is worth it
