I just had my pins removed and yes - It hurt like hell! They said it would be just a pinch - no it wasn't. He had such a hard time getting one of the pins out, he had to go get a larger pair of hemostats. It took quite a bit of time.
Nine days post opt. I had hammertoe, neuroma, and bunion surgery .......I have had no pain, whatsoever. My doc blocks pain for three days and I was fearing the worst once the block wore off. Elevate, elevate, elevate, and use ice for at least 48 hours.!!!!! Pray for patience b/c you do not want to put pressure on foot, it will destroy the surgery. I did purchase a knee scooter, the one that u can sit on, also; and that has helped tremendously. I am apprehensive about pin removal but very anxious to get this over. So happy That I chose to do this and looking forward to wearing shoes again.
It is a long recovery but I think it will be worth it in the long run.

I had bunion and hammertoe correction last yr its was fine. I've had 2 more toes done 3 weeks ago 1 on each foot the pins come out 16th oct I had no trouble last time pin came out didn't feel a thing so don't worry or listen to horror stories x
I had bunion surgery on my big toe and hammertoe surgery on my second toe about 10 days ago. I have three rows of stitches on the top of my foot one on each toe and one kind of in between the two up on top of my foot and a pin sticking out of my second toe. I have to say I was surprised that it wasn't very painful afterwards. I took minimal pain medication for three days after surgery and quit completely on the fourth day. I attribute that to the fact that nerves are cut in the process and both my big toe and second toe are sort of numb to the touch. I only discovered that when I went for my one week postop check and my doctor put ointment on the stitches. Now 10 days after surgery it feels like my toes are coming back to life. I'm starting to get zingers and there is some pain happening it feels like in my bone. Yesterday I took a half a pain pill and it felt a lot better. For me, the hardest part of this surgery has been the immobility. I'm a very active person and not being able to do the work and things and hiking that I love to do has been a challenge. I look forward to getting the pin out of my toe in three days as that has been the most sensitive part of my foot since surgery . I can't imagine having both feet done at the same time I don't know how you would move .
The pin removal doesn't hurt at all. I got mine out today. I didn't watch but it just felt like a little tugging and then it was out. I was worried about it because it looks pretty scary sticking out of your toe...but it was painless.
Think u were lucky!! I have several serious operations, and I am a tough cookie! Went today for a 6 inch pin out of stainsby op, which had been in for 5 weeks! They struggled to remove it, and had one remove b4 on my other foot, but this was worst pain I have felt!
Hi I have had surgery on my toes 2 weeks ago. Here is my honest experience. I had day surgery so was awake the whole time. My toes were numbed with a series of injections. These were quite painful tbh but the whole process only lasted a few minutes for each foot. after that I was wheeled in for the operation. I didn't feel a thing and it was very quick only about half an hour all done. Afterwards I had to have an injection to thin the blood and stop clotting and was given codine and diclifenac. My feet were bandaged up. The first night was painful probably because I hadn't taken enough painkillers. I took another diclifenac in the night and that was ok. Having both feet done was a bit restricting I could not get up very well and had to use a bedpan for a few days. I then used crutches to get up for short periods. I have felt some pain discomfort for the first few days but I would not say that it was very bad and the painkillers sort that out. I had my stitches out and my toes are straight ! Pins still in for another 4 weeks. To sum up. It's not that bad and I think worth it. Be prepared to need help for week 1
I don't get a kick out of scaring people, having my pin removed was extremely painful!
I had an Austin akin bunion removal and four hammer toes corrected and my second toe shortened and pinned. I have had very little pain thankfully....I only took the Vicodin for 2-3 days then I went to Tylenol...I'm 16 days post op and I get the pin out in two days. Good Luck
I have had hammertoe surgery twice and did not have any pain either time. All I had was some discomfort from the swelling.
Hi I had surgery 6 weeks ago;- a bunion removed and second toe straightened with a k-wire in place. I was walking without the crutches just using the heel weight bearing boot after 10 days and I have managed fine. I am having my pin out tomorrow ...not sure what to expect !! I was able to remove the dressings and have a bath after 2 weeks this felt great. the stitches dissolved and the heeling is good. Make sure you dry the end of the toe around the k-wire and clean the area with savlon or salt water. Hope this helps.
Pin was a horrible experience!!!!
don't do both feet at same time, you need to be able to move around, and you can't step on the foot that had the surgery for several weeks. In fact I was on knee scooter for 4 weeks.
I had bunionectomy and hammertoe done on my rt foot 7 weeks ago. I had to take 4 rounds of antibiotics and still have the pin sticking out of my second toe. Today was the 3rd time to the office to try to get the pin out and it won't budge. The doc is taking me back to the O.R. To get it out with a tool. It hurt so bad when it was being pulled I couldn't do anything but pant like I was in labor. My jaws were in the death clench. Anybody else have to resort to additional surgery? The pain is more tolerable now but I can't leave this thing in forever, not to mention the infection risk again.
Please don't say wiggled the pins that makes me nervous.
