Do you still experience pain or burning sensations that affects your daily activities after hammertoe surgery ?

Easy surgery. No pain, more like pressure. Like foot bound too tight. Didn't need pain meds . Had hammertoes done both feet. No problem.. One pin hurt. Felt like hot poker coming out of toe .lasted only a sec. Put on socks and tennis shoes and out the door I went . Having another one done on Nov .Dad had horrible hammertoes but refused surgery . Had very difficult time wearing any shoes. Not for me. Can't wait to have it done.

I had hammertoe correction done in my second toe on both feet almost 3 weeks ago. My doctor didn't give me any crutches or anything like that, was told they weren't needed. Just got the surgical shoes & was on my way. The first few days were rough & I only got up when I needed to. By the fourth day I was driving & doing what I had to due to not having the help & a 5 year old dependent on me. What's helped me the most is elevating them every chance I get & if I don't have to be on them...don't. My sutures were removed week 2 & pins will be coming out week 3. Best advice, meal prep so you don't have to be on your feet cooking & standing if you're doing it alone. Overall, it's been doable. It's painful, you'll move slow, but it could always be worse.

Yes, it's the same for me. The pin removal itself did not hurt me, but a few days afterward, my toe had immense stabs of pain, especially when I was lying in bed during the night - the pain kept me awake. I wasn't expecting it, but assume it must have been the nerves and bones healing up.

I just get zingers. ..no bad pain at all yet 3 days post op. Marcaine (local anesthetic injection at the end of surgery) must have been a God send!

I had surgery done 17 days ago. First 2 nights it was painful getting off toilet but pain meds helped and didn't hurt much at all. Now occasional weird feelings or aches. Don't take pain meds much now unless I overdo. I have a boot that makes you put pressure on heel only. I couldn't use crutches cause I'm clumsy and not enough arm strength. Got the knee scooter which is good but annoying to turn in small spaces and if used a lot can make hip hurt or knees. I wanna try walker because I'm not suppose to be walking on boot, but I do sometimes. Dr said pins will stay in 4 to 6 weeks. I want them out now but it probably is better for toes. Also had bunion removed too. I wouldn't do both at once cause it'd be harder to get around I think. the whole surgery isn't bad at all I see Dr every 2 weeks. Take a shower with shower hose and tub seat, works good.

It painful and long process I had two toe straightened and a little one my other foots perfect thank god. It's been four wks pin removed on my little toe. Doctor said did you bring a shoe I thought he was joking no way would I put my shoe on yet two toes didn't have pins in hurt still and I limp. It's a pain I can live with but asked for another 4wk sick note as in a job a stand all day barbering. I can't bend the toes in but he said that's normal as otherwise they'd not be straight so limited moment. I'm just hoping I can walk without pain wish I'd not had those two toes done now. As when my foot was floor flat they didn't hurt as much as after operating

I had hammer toe surgery 5 years ago in the U.K and they actually left 2 pins in two of my toes. I had asked about removal, but they said they should stay in. I could feel them from the sides of the toes just poking out of the bone slightly.

Recently, I have been having some deformation again and went to an Orthopedic surgeon in Sweden who informed me that the pins should have been removed weeks after surgery (which is what I'm reading on this forum).

Is it negligence that they left the pins in? The surgeon here tried to remove them, but after 5 years they were part of the bone, and he only managed to break mm off them at the sides where they stuck out!

Sounds like you've got nerve damage in your toes.
I'm having my pins removed on 16 January 2017 and feeling rather nervous doing so under local anesthetic.

I had a bunionectomy on December 1st, stitches out December 15, and the doctor tried to pull out the external pin December 29 and it didn't budge. Since then i have been in more pain, and have more swelling since the doctor tried to pull it out. It is still not moving. I am worried it will never come out.

I had hammer toe surgery 1 week ago. I had to have my big toe broken n bone shaved off the side. The hammer toe required a pin. She also cut bone off the second toe and pinkie because they were too long. It is painful. The pain is manageable. I stoppex taking the pain meds after 3 days due to stomach issues. Advil gels seem to help twice a day. The pin and stitches are being removed tuesday. I m up n walking in the boot.
