I went to see a dermatologist last spring and after a byopsy she still had no idea what I have. After looking at pictures online I think I have PR. The byopsy was inconclusive and I "may" have the Rubra strain or some other thing that sounded like craddle c**p. It's been about 2 years now and they are getting worse instead of better. The spots seem to be worse right after I shower. I just hate to look in the mirror and I'm embarrassed to even be naked in front of my husband. Will it ever go away?

A little over a month ago I noticed a spot on my left chest. I immediately dismissed it as a bug bite, but became suspicious after I noticed about 15 red bumps on my abdomen a week later. Shortly after the observation I decided to visit my primary physician and of course it was misdiagnosed as eczema and I was prescribed a cream (I do however have eczema so I knew right away it had to be something different). I happened to be working the night shift that week of my doctor visit and had my employees look at what I had to help me diagnose it (I'm an RN so it was nice to have the input of different medical educated individuals). I wasn't surprised when everyone dismissed the "eczema" diagnoses and so I decided to visit the dermatologist that week. Instantly he knew it was PR and told me it would last for weeks, would get worse before it got better, and there is really no cure (not the news I wanted to hear). So for weeks I saw the bumps literally invade my body and each day it became worse and so did my self-esteem. I admit, I did have a few breaking points and quite honestly, I didn't care to look at my body! I tried the tanning beds (keep in mind I'm already dark complected) and it didn't work for me as I hoped it did for others. To cope with the pruritus I religiously applied a cream given to me by my dermatologist day, afternoon (if I wasn't working), and evening; then before bedtime I would take hydroxyzine (2-3 tablets which helped me sleep comfortably due to the drowsy effect). I'm a person who hates being cold as I'm sure most people don't appreciate the feeling either, but I had to sleep with just a sheet on and the heat turned down to 65 in the middle of winter. Luckily the rash has appeared during the winter so when I found myself starting to itch I would step outside to let my body cool off and that did seem to help me. In about 1 week I noticed that the the spots were starting to heal but of course other new parts of the rash began to form. Literally it felt as though 10 new spots appeared as 1 spot healed! Currently the red bumps have turned into hyper-pigmentation and they do itch, more so on some days than others. I'm seeing a lot of peeling taking place and I have been using Sarna to temporarily relieve the itchiness, which works great. My main focus at this point is to get rid of the marks the rash has left behind. I've been using vitamin E and vigorously rubbing them into the areas and praying they fade before summer. I can see that some of them have been fading, but not as much as I want. My boyfriend has been wonderful through this and has been great in helping me apply the creams to my back where I can't reach! According to him he says it looks like some of the spots are starting to fade more. I'm hoping that if they dark areas don't fade by summer that tanning outside will help even out everything, because according to my dermatologist it's supposed to; but I'm not counting on it. This rash is a freakin' curse I swear, but I know that things could be worse so I'm being patient about everything and hoping for the best. I have been doing some research on natural remedies other than vitamin E oil and so far I'm finding a lot of stuff as far as getting rid of the after math of the rash (i.e. lemon, organic extra virgin olive oil, etc.).

I have had PR for about a month and half now. when I first got it, it was itchy as hell, and spread everywhere the only place I didnt get it was on my face. My doc gave me terbinafine. It is pretty expensive and takes a while, but that just could be the rash running its course. I'm going to trying tanning and see how that works, but the terbinafine has helped, I can now count the dots on my hands.

Ive had PR ffor about 4 weeks, it itches really bad. It's unbearable, ive been prescribed medicines but they dont work at all. I scratch all of the time and it turns really red i have it everywhere including my growing. i put aloe vera lotion on it sometimes it soothes it, but sometimes i'm scratching everywhere. I feel like a freak, i cry alot and people talk about me to. My doctor said sun is good also, he also sasid that a tanning bed would be good but im too young. I can't stand this i feel like i'm the ugliest person in the world.

Ive had it for 3 months now and its getting worse, ive tried various things from head and shoulders to zinc cream and natural sunlight (its the middle of summer here)

Ive even got it on my man bits (lol, not that its that funny) so I cant even have sex really as it just makes the PR more angry for a bit.

The sun seems to have lessened some of the original spots, especially the ones that were originally the worst, but others have formed in new places and are becoming just as bad, even though they have been in the sun. I would say I have a couple of hundred spots in total, it started on my chest and then moved to my man bits and all over my front, shoulders and a few weeks later my lower back. I have one small one on each arm and none on my face, hands, feet or legs.

Although I hate it, I am hoping it is PR as its supposedly harmless, the doctor diagnosed it as PR but to be honest she was hardly convicing, she googled it, and not very well, I found out more myself. She wasnt going to do anything at all but when I said it was very itchy she prescribed me an anti hystamine...

Im getting pretty fed up of it to be honest, I have my first proper holiday for years coming up in about 8 weeks, its the first time we have been able to afford one for a while (basically because my dad is paying for me and my other half to go) and I feel this could ruin it.

Any suggestions greatly appreciated (I am going to go back to the doctors and see a different one)

I was diagnosed with PR last about two years ago and I may not have it, but since I am dark skinned I have these uneven tones of skin on my thighs and lower back, and I hate to wear shorts becuase of it. I can't stand it, but the itching wasn't unbearable and I don't know what to do about the spots...

Hey,
I am a 28 yr old white female, and I was diagnosed with PR thismorning. After reading everyone's posts, I am scared to death!! I have been trying so hard to lose weight to boost my self confidence, and have been very sucessful in the past 3 weeks(lost 26lbs).I was just getting comfortable with my body, and now this...
I first noticed a "quarter sizes" patch of red ,dey-like, simi-itchy spot on my butt about 2 weeks ago..because i work at a rather large manufactoring plant .i was scared that i had picked up something from using the restroom after people.I started using anti-bacterial creams, and over the counter itch creams, but then got a huge shock about a week ago. I noticed smaller pinkish-red spots on my inner thighs(lining the female eara).
OMG!!! now i was scared!! ( It took me another week to get up the courage to go to the dr) This morning, I woke up itching again,so i swallowed my pride, and called the dr. at 8:30am I was there. not 3 minutes after he looked at it, "PR" !! the only thing he told me was , "here you need to get this cream",and "it will go away on its own"..that was it.
So imagine my suprise when i start looking it up online...3-6wks???or maybe even 3 months?? and its going to get worse??? how can it possibly get worse? from my navel to my knees, including my butt, are covered..I wont even let my husband see me naked , much less touch me now....and its going to get worse? Great!! now , not only do I feel completely ugly,,ow,im itching soooo much that people are going to think i have a flee infestation.... If yall are right about the time line, i still have like 4-5 weeks/or possibly more to go...
I guess i better get ready for a long itchy ride....but sounds like i just might get that nice tan i have always wanted....oh look , i was able to find some humor in this for a second. better get started looking for a tannaing salon.

PLEASE, IF ANYONE HAS ANYTHING TO SUGGEST, SEND IT MY WAY

I was diagnosed with PS for about three weeks now, this is my fifth/sixth week with these rash. I am a teacher and it is hard to turn up at work with these rashes all over my arms and legs. Some co-worker and students saw the horrible rashes and kept asking questions. People are so niave, that they believe i have a contagious virus and started to scorn me. It doesn't matter how many times i explain it. I am living in Jamaica where its hot, so I can't wear long sleeve blouses to work. This thing is making my life a living hell. I spent so much at the doctor, trying to get a new opinion on treatments. All the doctors in the world, and no one has found out the cause and cure for this rash? Am i suppose to wait until my self esteem is killed by this desease/virus/bacteria/flesh eating disorder or what ever this thing is? WHAT IS THIS THING?????

I am currently suffering from pityriasis rosea and have not yet found a cure. Head & shoulders does not work, it makes it more itchy and sore and makes it look alot more inflammed etc. I am going out to a party tonight and want to wear a dress but don't know whether it is a good idea or not, fake tan might be a possibility but this could make it more itchy. I am sure I will come up with a solution. Different things work for different people and I am sure everybody will find their own way of curing it.

I had Pr for about 10 weeks and finally found the cure :D . The cure is Aloe Vera! As soon as i used the jelly in an aloe vera plant my SEVERE itching had gone from me. The red bumps all over my chest started to go away, and now all i have left are a few scars on my chest! So yea please spread the word ALOE VERA cures PR..Dont let doctors tell you there isnt a cure becuase aloe vera cured my case!!! SPREAD THE WORD!!!

The only possible cure for Pityriasis rosea is sunbathing.  It works for me like a miracle.  Go to a clean beach and alternate between going to the ocean and sunbathing several times.  Make sure you don't get a burn, just lightly tan.  Repeat this process for 3 days and your Pityriasis rosea should go away quickly.

Hi Guys,

I was diagnosed with PR about a month ago. I was terrified!! but it slowly began to fade once i took matters into my own hand and met someone in person that dealt with the illness. I honestly just took the medicine my doctor prescibed me and went to a tanning salon for a week!! for seven days, 20 minutes a day i tanned. Slowly but for surely it cleared my rash and put a halt to my itching. Hope this helps!!
