Hello, I had my appendix removed when I was 7 years old (27 yrs. ago) I just spent the last 24 hrs. in the ER with severe abdominal pain. I was sure this was coming from a cyst on my ovary. After hours of tests I was about to be discharged and the ER doctor examined me one last time. He said he just wasn't comfortable allowing me to leave with my "appendicitis" symptoms. He ordered a CT scan which ultimately showed that I had scar tissue adhering my appendectomy site to my colon. I have for years blamed the right lower abdominal pain on my female organs. I now look back at the last 27 yrs. and know what was going on. I hope this is helpful to someone who has had an appendectomy recently and save them a lot of pain and confusion.

You can have you your appendix removed and still get a sort of "appendicitis".  if the surgen does not remove the appendix cleanly he can leave a pocket, which can get inflammed just like appendicits!

I just had my appendix taken out bout four weeks ago. I have similar pains that feel like my stomach is in a note. The best way to describe it is a contraction. I've also noticed the more stress I am under the worse the pain is

Yes. My situation sounds just like yours. This week seems to be even worse with the news/stress adding to the strange pain. Sometimes it's like a contraction and sometimes like a pin prick. I spoke with my surgeon who says to give it more time and that it may be nerves shooting off.  Very frustrating. I hope you're feeling better.

These stories are amazing,,,sadly mine is just one more of the same.  I had my appendix, tubes and ovary removed on Feb, 14th this year.  I have severe pain in my right side, my digestive system does not work without medication, i am extremely tired all the time and have depression, The pain in my right side is so bad some times that it alters my walk.  I used to love to go the gym but cannot go any more,  I have had many test trying to figure the pain x-rays. sonograms, ct scans, had my bladder check, and a colonoscopy, sadly no answer.  I would love to have my life back.  I have a wonderful dr, he cannot find an answer, so no idea how to fix the pain. We r now trying to find a way for me to live comfortably throught different medications.  I often wonder what would happen if someone figured out a way to replace the appendix with a simulated appendix?  I hope that someone can find an answer. If only we could go back and remake our decision to have it removed, i would leave mine, i felt 10 times better. Good luck to all of you, I hope we get an answer. I should add that sex is extremely painful now.

Hi, go to the natural store( Chamberlin natural store is a good one) and ask for Paul D' Arco tea bags and acidophilus to kill the bacteria. You can find acidophilus in the plane yogurt as well. Do not take sugar so is the food of the bacteria. Maintain the area dry. Use cotton underwears. I don't have it any more. Good Luck!

Wow I am amazed at how many peope on here have been having these problems following their appendectomy! I had a laparoscopic appendectomy over 5 months ago (I had been having intermittent pain where my appendix was and elected for exploratory laproscopy). The doctor told me that he would take the appendix regardless just to be on the safe side.

My appendix was normal, but as discussed was taken out. 2 days after surgery I spiked a 102 fever and was atmitted to the hospital. They found hardening and thickening of the cecum and said it was normal after surgery to have some inflamation. I was put on IV antibiotics and discharged 3 days later.

Since being discharged from the hospital, my life has been hell. Well technically since surgery my life has been hell. I have been having terrible abdominal pain (right and left sided) and pain in my back (shoulder too) I have had rectal tenderness, dizzyness, and general fatigue and dizzyness. I went back to see the surgeon two weeks after surgery (after waiting for the pains and discomfort to subside) and was given a CT scan that showed the same inflamation. The surgeon assured me that he "didn't make any mistakes" and that I need to see a gi doctor. Since the surgery, I have also had heart palpitations.

The GI doctor that they referred me too was horrible. Very condescending and told me to wait a few more weeks to see if my gi track calmed down. (MEANWHILE I THINK THAT I VERY WELL MAY BE DYING) and this old, crotchety doctor wants to wait two weeks?

I asked a friend if she knew a good GI doctor and was referred to my current GI doctor. Biopsy from a colonoscopy showed that I had high levels of Eosinophils in my colon, (Fyi, thats a rare white cell associated with fighting off infections and allergens) and he started me on Entocort EC.

Since I've been on Entocort, I have been dizzy everyday, somedays I can't even go to work or walk my dog very far. I recently spoke with my general practicioner due to the dizzyness and cramping in my abdomen (upper and lower abdomen) and he ordered a full blood workup and stool culture. I'm awaiting the results.

For all of my brothers and sisters out there fighting with post-opperative conditions after having appendectomy; stay strong and keep the faith.

ALSO EXTREMELY IMPORTANT!! Act calm in the doctors office! Doctors are quick to discredit people who are anxious, so instead be as calm. If you're stressed, it stresses out the doctors, and they're more likely to ignore you and rush you out of the office. To make sure that your doctor takes you seriously, act as calm and mellow as a rastafarian. Bring a list of your symptoms, and focus on the big issues (top 1, 2, or 3 problems, spare them the pain you have in your ankle...) let them decide what tests are appropriate... first. If, by then, you have maintained your composure as acting like a rastafarian in front of them, go ahead and ask them what test you want. Make sure they feel in power and say, "what about ________ test, in conjunction with the tests you reccomend?" That way you are listening to them, and having your own needs and concerns taken seriously.

God bless you all out there, and keep fighting the good fight. Like the Pearl Jam song, "I'm still Alive".
