It sounds to me like you might have a respiratory infection. The best thing to do is see a doctor about it just to make sure it's not something more serious. Don't play around with chest pain. It usually needs medical care!

i just had similar pains an hour ago, I though I'm having a heart attack! I had this pain on and off throughout the years. It started when I was a teenager, now Im 26. Before it occurs almost everyday but it suddenly went away and now I experienced it at least once a month. I noticed that it happens when I'm anxious but sometimes it just happens because.

Thanks for all your posts. I read the PCS article and I think it's only that. :O

Its nothing to be worried about Im 21 and have had these same pains since i could remember. when i was about 7 a dr. told me it was prob b/c of heart palpitations and to not worry if it happend to lay on my back put my hands over my head and breath in just like someone who gets ashma attacks and its always worked and they go away. dont try it standing b/c that just makes the pain way worse and wont go away. some woman get palpitations when they're pregnant and that may be why some of u never had these before but ive always lived with them and have always been active sports player and you shouldnt worry its not a life/death kinda thing. I too had tests run and heart monitors and they all said i was healthy its just one of those mysterious things r body can do

Hello all,

I too experience sharp pains under my left breast, have had all the test ran and was told that nothing was wrong with my heart. However, I have been told that having too much caffeine in your diet can cause this pain. So, when I laid off the caffeine the pain did go away. When I have even a small cup of coffee that pain comes back. Sometimes it is gas.

I sometimes get a sharp stabbing pain behind my left breast that allows me to breathe in, but not out, due to the pain. I am going to see a second doctor about it this afternoon, and maybe get a chest x-ray or EKG. I have these pains infrequently, but about 4-5 times in 2009, and once last night. I am 20 year old female and have been experiencing this for about 2 years or so.

Katie.

I am a 16 year-old male and I have been getting great pain in my chest (right where my heart is supposed to be) since I was ten or younger.... It hurts worse if I breathe deeply. Today was the worst and it felt like a giant bee sting right on my heart. My dad has MVP, but I don't know if this is related or not. Anyone know?

all the sharp pain is, is an anxiety attack. it does not have anything to do with your pregnancy. your pregnancy may create stress for you. Which results into an anxiety attack

i have the same pain problem described that gets worse when breathing in. so far this is the best response i have read online.

please do not take this response as what it is because in some cases it may be more serious for you, so please see a doctor to have it official "diagnosed" if they can diagnose it, or at least to rule out anything.

i'm posting an exert but u can find the entire response at this link below.

What you're describing is almost certainly not heart-related. The reason I say that is that cardiac pain can't be duplicated by movement (such as twisting of the torso) or breathing in. Most often this is caused, instead, by either an inflammation of the cartilage between the ribs (costochondritis), but sometimes is also caused by chest wall irritation, inflammation of the pleura (the lining between the lungs and the chest wall), or of the chest wall muscles themselves. Since you also describe a sensation of a painful contraction, which would suggest possible muscle spasm. Otherwise it is most likely constochondritis. In any of these cases the treatment is the same, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications such as ibuprofin or naproxyn (Advil or Aleve over the counter). Since those haven't worked for you, you may require some prescription version or another prescription medication that does the same thing, only more powerful. It doesn't sound remotely like a heart-related problem.

I have the exact same thing, and you are the only person who seems to have the same pain as me. It's under my right breast and have had the pain for a few hours. For a few minutes it got really severe, but now I can only feel it when I breath in deeply. Did you find out what it is?

Precordial catch syndrome is what I think I have and it sounds very similar to other peoples responces , for those that have percistent pain I have heard of fluid in the lungs or a sack in the lungs that could explain ... but the Precordial catch syndrome sounds hopefull to meand im hoping that is what it is but i will still be going to the doctors.

I have been having chest pains for at least six years of my life. I am 19 years old and went to the doctor just last year for the pain. It is like a sharp stabbing pain and hurts extremely bad when I take a breath in. Sometimes it knocks me over or makes my body twitch because of the pain. You need to go to the doctor. I found a 2 centemeter hole in my right atrium of my heart. If you dont catch it early, later in life you can die of heart failure. That is what my doctor told me. They can give you surgery. Either one where they go through a magor vein in your groin area or open heart. I am scheduled to get mine next year. They say its not a big deal only as long as you take care of it in time. Good Luck. :-)

I am a 24 black female and...wow!!! I am amazed from all the replies that sounds very much like my problem. I also have sharp pains in my right breast not directly under. When i inhale it hurts. Also i feel these rumbling/bubbling movements . Sometimes i feel like i will damage something if i force to breath! Eventually after 5 min or so it disappears and i go back to regular breathing. It really scares me, it doesn't happen all time just ocassionally. I did a breast exam, but i didn't feel any lumps or anything. Could it be gas in my chest area or something??

Pericardial catch syndrome (PCS), also known as Texidors twinge, is the most common cause of sudden sharp stabbing chest pain in adults and children. The stabbing pain is predominantly felt just under the left nipple near, where your heart is located. The pain worsens when a person inhales or exhales.
