Good luck . Please do come back with the results ... I am also experiencing that since childhood .
Let me know how this goes, as I am also having surgery next Monday!
I've had this same thing for as long as I can remember. I was recently diagnosed with something called a urachal cyst. This type of cyst is extremely rare and forms when your a baby. My urachal ligament didn't seal all the way and there for a cyst grew inside of it. I have surgery soon to remove it and they think these symptoms will go away they think it's because of the straining of the cyst that causes this pain.
I too am in the exact same position. 34 yr old male who has had issue for 10+ years. Urologist found urachal cyst and he thinks that straining is causing the issue. Scheduled to have laparoscopic removal of urachus and remnants of cyst removed (and small part of bladder where cyst formed). Doctor highly confident this will fix everything but will keep you all posted. btw, I've asked 3 urologists (2 in research) and they all agree with diagnosis. one actually said this is a fairly typical issue case for those with an urachal cyst. I'm not a doctor but even if this is the culprit, I'm not sure it doesn't preclude other urachal abnormalities from being the cause as well.
I have been getting this pain since I was like 15 years old and I am now 35. I just noticed that whenever I am lack of water, this happens. So what I do, I drink a lot of water and within minutes, it goes away. My GP also doesn't know what it is though..
Hey there! I hope your surgery went well. Any updates on whether they found anything?
I am also a fellow sufferer of this awful pain. I'm in my late 20s now and have had it since I was about 11. It feels like a tearing, ripping, pulling, acidic pain deep in the pit of my stomach underneath my navel (every so slightly radiating to the left), pulling me down. It feels like the core of me is being ripped apart. I'm a pretty stoic person but this is absolute agony when it occurs. Like other sufferers on here, it often occurs when going from a sitting to standing position or during urination. The pain is 100% linked to posture. If I stood up straight when I got the pain it would be so excruciating that I can't even bear thinking about it as it makes my blood run cold. If I stoop slightly, the forward flection relieves the pain, however as soon as I move slightly, straighten up a bit, twist etc, the ripping pain is there with a vengeance. If it's really really bad I'm stooped over double and even breathing hurts. However fortunately the majority of the time I get a more mild version of this pain- I feel twingy and slight pulling feelings, also a full bladder feeling, and I feel tight and heavy in the area, but it often doesn't progress to the really bad pain if I can get home quickly and rest. However as I'm sure many of you can agree the fear that it WILL become extremely severe is always on my mind. I may only get the terrible pain 3 times a year, for example, but I get the twinges very often and all 365 it's at the back of my mind, which has made me quite Anxious. I travel a lot in for my job and I've had some terrible times where I have had the pain in the middle of a remote community and am completely immobilized. Very embarrassing and awful!
Like everyone else here the pain is very random, no link to anything, potentially hydration as I remember getting it more frequently back in my
Late teens when I used to go out drinking, hence the dehydration (would get it the morning after). Perhaps more likely if I've been hunched up a while. But again, can hit me anytime anywhere.
I wish wish wish I had a very clear solution for everyone BUT I feel I am getting closer and will keep you updated. i agree it is related to the urachas. After finally getting an open minded gp willing to think outside the box (and perhaps because I'm better at articulating the pain now), I was referred to a urological surgeon. I might add that previously I had a hernia op and apparently had a small umbilical sinus which was cleared up BUT this did not help the pain (and you can imagine my disappointment right!!!) Anyway I printed off a detailed description of the pain in my own words and all the relevant posts from this forum where a solution had been found and showed them to him. The urological surgeon wants to operate to remove the urachas. Nothing has shown up in an ultrasound but he did say that sometimes they don't, or the urachas can just be tight or inflamed. He's not 100% sure but said he would be comfortable doing it without a clear test showing an issue as my symptoms are so sever and align with this urachas. He also recommended I get a second opinion before I commit to surgery, and the second surgeon I saw also said it sounds like the urachas and i have a lot to potentially gain and little to lose by having the surgery. He said there may only be a 50-60% chance this would fix it (because they don't know for sure it's the urachas without images), however he said he can't think of what else would cause a pain connecting the belly button to the bladder. He recommended I go ahead. So that's where I'm at now! I'm hesitant to say this is a solution as I could be sadly disappointed, but at least it's something. I'd do anything to make this pain go away so it's worth a shot. I will keep you updated and please if anyone else has any info or stories from their doctors regarding whether it was the urachas or not it would be greatly appreciated. I'm determined to fight for this and won't stop until I find the answer. We should not have to live like this. Sure, it's not life threatening but it's pretty life debilitating!

I wish I could talk to everyone personally who has this and help them. I had this pain my whole life. I had CT scans, I went to many doctors, I searched the internet for hours with no help. Until one day I found a thread with the answer. you're right. it's a hernia. I had awful pain out of no where that caused me to not be able to stand up straight and forget peeing. It was excruciating. The reason the hernia is so painful and so hard to pick up is because of how small it is. what happens is, periodically an organ gets stuck in the little opening in our belly buttons. explaining why when we stand up, it hurts so bad. It is being pinched. I finally found a general surgeon whom I begged to open me up and look for a hernia. Sure enough he found it, turns out I was born with it. If you know something is not right, find a doctor and be persistent until he or she will help you. I know the pain you all speak of. I hope this helped and I hope you find some relief. I have not had the pain once since my hernia was repaired.
y'all i just nee answers im tired of feeling this every year!!!
This is happening to me again right now and it just freaks me out so much. I just want this fixed but no one ever seems to know what it is. And I'm always scared to go back to the doctor for it because they have you do a urine sample (peeing makes me want to die of pain) and they poke your stomach which also aggravates the pain pretty intensely.
I'd been staying away from things that dehydrate until this month, looks like I need to maybe fix my habits again.
I'm so tired of this.

I know a lot of people on Thisbe thread say they will follow up here and then never share If anything helps. I had this pain last night prettt badly and tried a cream that's you rub on an area to reduce pain (active ingredient is "lidociaine" it was over the counter). I'm not really sure if it completely got rid ignorant the pain or just reduced it enough for me to calm down and sleep it off, but it did make a difference, which is the first thing that ever has.
Seems like drinking lots of water and using the restroom in a timely matter goes a long way to prevent these pains as well. Here's hoping we can all find a good long term solution.

Juddyehle , I wrote at the start of page 2 , I had been fighting this string behind the belly button for some time. I believe the initial phases of that string feeling when your at the end of your urination is caused by the beginning phases of a Uti . When I was younger a little rest and being tucked curled up made them go away but as I got older and more dehydrated, my body couldn't fight the infection thats what Im starting to believe. I spent 17 years , 26 to 43 with a stomach that was always guarded not knowing what the heck is wrong with me. Anyway a couple weeks ago I was at a friends house and he asked me if I wanted a beer and I excepted , and thats when I noticed the pain really come on, and the light turned on in my head. Im a naturalist so Im trying to fight it myself , d mannose , silver , oil of oregeno , garlic , whatever it takes Ive been getting tips online for fighting a uti, today my stomach felt the best it has felt in years so I believe I have hit the nail on the head. Anyway , I know what it is like to have the pulling pain , and than beyond that the stomach conditions , I hope I have figured it out , and good luck to all of you. God bless
Hi all, just wanted to provide an update. A week ago I had the urachus, medial umbilical ligament, urachal cyst attached to bladder, and part of bladder removed. Catheter came out yesterday and I’m feeling 65% normal.
I’m still recovering from surgery and feeling incision pains on bladder, but I will say I’m not feeling pain in the area behind the belly button as before. I won’t know for sure if this worked until I strain my core again and am dehydrated, but I’ll be sure to update the group.
I went to a renowned specialist in Houston’s medical center and for what it’s worth, he thinks the issue was the urachal cyst left an opening to the bladder and fluid / urine was being forced up through the urachus during strenuous exercise, hence the reason it took days to drain and feel better and why the pain felt like a string since the urachus was involved. He said we will never know for sure, but we removed literally everything between the belly button and bladder.
So again I’ll report back in probably three months, but for now I’m hopeful this nightmare is finally over. At the very least, I can exclude the urachus as a variable if the pain returns (I’ve already excluded a hernia as I falsely had an umbilical repair for this issue and it didn’t help).
Best

Hi Everyone, I have also experienced what you all are describing for as long as I can remember. It only happens a handful of times a year, but when it does it is random and for no reason that I can figure out. I will literally be fine and then all of the sudden if I stand up too quickly or straighten my body out/stretch I get the terrible feeling from the top area of my vagina up to my belly button. As you described, it feels like a string or a rope being stretched out or tearing and when I hunch forward/down it nonexistent but once I stand up straight it hurts. Sometimes I can apply pressure/massage it out but not always.
Last time I told my OBGYN, she told me to go to the doctor at the exact moment it was happening. So I got it months later and I immediately went to urgent care. They sent me to the ER for further testing. Pelvic exam, blood tests and CT scan all came back normal so I am still without an answer/explanation :(. Certainly glad to hear all of your comments/see that I'm not alone/not crazy! Best of luck to us all in figuring out what this mystery really is!

PS I am 24, and have never been pregnant.
what did your obgyn say?
