i am not american and do not know of many of these substances, but here, i use Veet hair removal cream, it is very good and doesnt irritate, though, check on other areas before going down, remember what youre shaving is THE MOST fragile part of youre body, in many cases, a woman/man's FAVOURITE place, youre sanctuary, necessary and sacred!. also, on the other end of many razors there is a facility to use down in youre womanly area, and where youre ass is concerned, it doesnt matter quite as much though it can get rather hideous, my advice is to get a close friend or a willing partner to help out. no? then get it waxed in a salon, these people are proffessionals, it will hurt, but the more you do it the easier and painless it gets, also try this on youre vaginal area. as for creams and antidotes, make sure they are colourless and fragrance free before use, lets not risk anything. waxing really IS the best bet, it leaves no shaddows, no chance of ingrown hair, no blemishes and no bumps and best of all, not irritation. enjoy your nights :!:

Careful girls - chances are you're going to regret removing your pubic hair come menopause and beyond! At that point you're going to want a barrier between yourself and the outside world. trust me on this!

Yes , my advice to avoid ingrown hairs is to exfoliate . I use a shower body scrub which has little bead thingys in it . I also use a loofa . Shaving downwards helps , although it leaves a bit of hair , I suggest you start with that , because when your hair grows back it will be irritated . After a while I found that I no longer get irritated , eventually you can start shaving normaally . But still exfoliate !

you people need to learn how to spell. Especially "the expert". I used a razor today and then used a feminine wash (summer's eve, you can find it practically anywhere) afterwards. Then I applied a perfumed lotion from Bath&Body works to the area in which I shaved to see if any irritation would occur. There was none so I went about my day. There are always going to be pros and cons to waxing, shaving, hair removal creams etc. Just read the directions, Follow the preparation steps beforehand, and If you're going to use a razor blade try not to cut yourself you will scar.
I myself have never waxed before, but I'm pretty sure there are saftey precautions that you must adhere to as well. Anyhow, I hoped this helped. 8-|

I use a 2 blade razor to shave my inner and outter vagina and inside my butt. I do give time for the hair to regrow to at least stubble and shave it regularly these areas dont take that long to shave so I don't mind doing it at least once a week. However the hair inside the vagina that takes a while to grow back so I don't have to shave inside there as often. My technique is basically you can put ur leg up have a hand mirror handy outside of the shower so that you are able to see the areas you DO NOT WANT TO SHAVE/Cut. If you do it inside the shower then I recommend you using your hand to cover those areas you do not want to shave/Cut and shave along the outside of your fingers so your fingers are used as a barrier. After doing it a few times you will be able to feel where you need to shave. And again when you really want a clean shave and need to see I recommend using the hand mirror and leg up method.

I still haven't found a solution for bikini line razor bumps I thought nair was my solution but turns out I'm just going to have to get my bikini line lazored I am african american I have courser grade of hair and it grows back terribly. Expensive but both sides of my family are hairy so I have to do what I have to do or just deal (which im not)

hope this helps

I saw a couple of people mention Nair, the depilatory cream.  You should absolutely NOT use that.  It's strongly caustic, and it says right on the bottle that it should not be used on the perianal or genital area.

im a guy i know it sounds weird posting on a thing about vaginal shaving but i found if you use just a tiny spot of shower gel or conditioner just enough to cover the general area then you should have a good result with no bumps or irritation

I cannot relate. I haven't tried shaving on the inside of my vagina, for my skin there is very sensitive. Could waxing be worse or better for sensitive skin than shaving?

Best bet is to use a small personal trimmer with a mirror to be extra safe. The side effects 2-3 days of spiky hair before the tips elongate again. You wont get any irritation because you aren't doing anything to the delicate sensitive skin itself. No chemicals!! If you want permanent get laser hair removal, but be sure to do your research and choose your laser "professional" carefully. Waxing might not give you ingrown hairs or irritation for a few weeks but you will still get the irritation none the less and it bloody hurts. Be careful with creams etc because you can upset your natural balance down there and that can cause worse things than a few ingrown hairs and shaving rash

It can be pretty awkward and very time consuming, but for the shy or if you can't see a professional waxer for any reason, it's probably your best option. I can't give shaving tips because it does not work for me, but under no circumstances should you use a depilatory cream in the area. It will burn, and is not designed for use on such delicate and sensitive skin tissues. Most prepared cold wax strips aren't really meant to be used on the area as well, so use at your own risk.
Whilst hot wax is best, I use Veet wax strips. First trim hair very carefully - use a mirror, and hold the hair between two of your fingers, so that your fingers are at the base of the hairs and the ends are straight up. Just in case, you need that barrier...Don't want scissors too close to the skin there. You need hair that's 1/4th of an inch to wax, so don't cut too close. I use the small bikini area and face area strips. Here's what I do:

1) Use some baby powder on the area. Moisture means wax can't grab hold. Rub the baby powder into the skin a little, you still need to be able to see what you are doing!
2) Prop up a mirror near you, and make sure you have good lighting.
3) Grab your wax strip, and rub it in your hands to warm it up. Cut the strip into two or three pieces. I find doing it this way takes longer, but is the least painful and most effective.
4) Start at the top. Stretch the skin with one hand, and place your wax strip piece carefully on a little patch of hair. And I mean little! About the width of two fingers at most. Smooth it down in the direction of growth with your fingers. Holding the skin taut as close to the area as possible, grab the end of the strip and pull BACK - not up - in the opposite direction of growth.
5) If you find some hairs left behind, you can repeat this, but be sure never to go over an area more than two or three times. If you barely pulled up any hair, you probably pulled in the wrong direction or your wax wasn't warmed properly.
6) If you still have a couple of hairs left behind, leave them alone. You can clean up the strays later with tweezers, no sense in hurting yourself and wasting wax trying to get it perfect right away.
7) You can use wider strips for the bikini line, but unless you're used to it I would advise you to stick with the small squares of wax.
8) When you get closer to the slit, this will be the most painful area. It'll also be the most difficult, because the hair grows every which way. Take a close look at what direction the hair grows in, and wax accordingly. For the hair sort of on the inside, you should probably use tweezers.
9) When you get to your butt, there's no easy way to do this. This will be awkward! Grab and pull on one butt cheek, and check with your fingers where hair is. You don't need to cut your wax strip very much - if you feel it's necessary, maybe at best cut it in two.
10) When you're done, use some oil to get rid of the wax on your skin. If you aren't provided with finishing wipes, baby oil should work fine.
11) Give it a day or so, then go back over and pluck stray hairs with tweezers. I usually grip the outer lips between two fingers so I can see what I'm doing there. For the back, I usually very very carefully shave the couple of hairs remaining, while still holding one butt cheek apart to make sure I'm getting everything. Be very gentle!

If you're really worried about pain, an anti-inflammatory painkiller like ibuprofen should help. Take it a couple of hours in advance. DO NOT use aspirin.
A gel ice pack on hand can also help. Just apply it after pulling off a strip for a few seconds. Applying just pressure works too.
Some people use numbing gels, but I don't think it's a good idea, as they limit your ability to be able to tell if wax really irritates you.
