Shortness of breath after stopping smoking

Can anybody tell me if shortness of breath after stopping smoking is normal? I am 32 years old, male, smoked 8-9 cigarettes a day for about 15 years. I stopped smoking three weeks ago. I have never been short of breath in my life, however since I stopped smoking, I find myself out of breath, at strange times, even when sitting at rest. Is this just part of stopping smoking? It seems to be very difficult to find information on the side effects of stopping smoking! Thanks, Richard.

This all seems normal. I quit 18 months ago and it took a good year or so to start feeling better. Then again, I smoked for 28 years not heavy maybe 5 or so a day. Everybody heals differently. If you have good insurance, then go see a cardio and pulmonary doc. Once I did and all test done came back ok, then I was able to relax more and knew it was just my body healing from all the toxins I have fed it over the years. Now I am left with a bit of anxiety which I never had until I quit smoking? Hang in there. Keith
One being Combivent and the other is Symbicort 160/4.5. Since starting these inhalers he has just lost all of his energy. He seems to have lost the strength in his arms and is waking up 3 and 4 times a night with his legs and arms cramping. Can this all be from the medicine he is taking? He is a very out going person but all of it seems to have just drained him from being able to do the things he enjoys. This is what SYMBICORT can do to your body , I know, it has done it to me. I LOST 50 lbs. all of my muscles no energy.short of breath all the time, do not use this garbage. THANKS RALPH 01/08/2015 p,s, COMBIVENT IS O.K TO TAKE. NO SYMBICORT.

when was it that you were hospitalize before for smoke inhalizaion, i think that you are having a real bad time with this , and getting bad advise from your doctors,
Did you ever recover from the terrible exprience you had there, I had an exprience like that went in the hospital and I had pneumonia, they knock me out for 2 weeks I knew nothing, woke up and didn't remember where I was, asked the nurse where am I , she just blew me off like if you don't know not telling you , this went on for a week, spent 3 weeks in hospital before i knew I was in the hospital, thought I had been kidnaped, I hate those places.
I'm going to detox by juicing. Can you update on your success? ***this post is edited by moderator *** *** web addresses not allowed*** Please read our Terms of Use
Today is 01/12/2015 its my 570 days of smoke free, feeling a little better but not much,I can get up and go places but get winded very quick, why its taking so long for me I dont know, most people who get this after quiting their symptoms are gone in a few months but some like me its a long time , and I realy dont have a lot of time left, I'm 70 years old, so I'm hopeing it goes away soon, and I wish every one else to get over this nightmare soon. THANKS RALPH
One year ago today I was taken to the hospital after passing out while sitting at the kitchen table,I dont remember anything about that whole week before passing out . 10 days later woke up sitting in the middle of the floor some where with about 5 or 6 people sitting around me in a circle, thought I had been kidnapped and being held for ransom, no one would speak at me they just sit and starred at me , my son was sitting to my right side and he wouldnt speak to me, I was in a state of shock by now, not knowing whether they were gonna kill me, or what, the most terrifying time of my life I was scared I mean really scared, I got up and told all of them that they want get away with this, the police will find them and they all would spend the rest of their life in prison, was taken to a bed and told to rest, find out 2 days later that I was in a hospital, but I didn't believe that , hell no ,some one came by that lived on my street and I ASK THEM TO CALL THE POLICE AND TELL THEM that I HAD BEEN KIDNAPPED , they said o.k . 2 days later my ex came by and explained every thing to me and I finally beleived that I was at the hospital. Terrifying time of my life the most terrifying time. THANKS RALPH 01/12/ 2015

Going through same thing, it's been 9 months smoke free and I can not breathe. I smoked 50 years a pack a day.... I pray that my lungs are healing themselves and this is normal and once the lungs clean out I will breathe like I did before I ever smoked
I stopped 4 months ago but I keep having sore throat and hoarsness, its like phelgm stuck at the back of the throat somewhere, sometimes I feel like i am having to put effort in talking, I wish either i never picked up smoking or never gave up as giving up has ccaused more trouble than when I was actually smoking, I had SOB which has got a lot better now.  Is this ever going to go away.
Its just another day of anxiety, its been 19 months today that I stopped smoking. SOB most days so bad that I cant do anything, most people are over this a lot sooner than this, but me i'm one of the old timers, some day soon maybe this will go away, ITS the 21st of January 2015 I wish the best of luck to all who suffer from this affliction. THANKS RALPH
Today is my 580 days of my quit, its the 22 of JANUARY 2015 I want to correct something I said about COMBIVENT, IT IS NOT A safe inhaler. it is a very DANGEROUS INHALER. TRY AT YOUR OWN RISK. I did more research on it and that is what I found out . good luck to all. THANKS RALPH
I have smoked for 30 years and quit 5⃣ months ago. It's been an awful experience. Anxiety and depression. Three trips er. Told me panic attacks. Seeing a psychiatrist too. On bupropion and clonazepam. Not helping much with anxiety. I hope this goes away . I guess this anxiety is the worst. I feel myself breathing. Not really shortness of breath or difficulty ...just constantly aware of myself breathing. Driving me crazy!!!
The lifetime cancer risk of using e-cigarettes long term is estimated to be 5 to 15 times higher than that of smoking a pack of cigarettes a day, due to the toxic substance formaldehyde in the e-cig vapor, researchers reported in the New England Journal of Medicine
