Hi, my husband just had this procedure 3 weeks ago & what you describe is pretty much the exact way it has played out for him too. I hope the procedure was a success for you once you got past the healing phase. My husband hasn't bothered with the pain killers either, how long did it take before that intense pain when you urinate stopped?
He is also having to urinate more frequently than normal during the day & it comes on quite suddenly with no warning, apparently this is normal during the healing phase, he too has still been getting up about 3 times during the night. Did you have the sense of urgency as well & how long did it take for the frequency to normalise & have you now reduced the number of times you have to get up through the night? I hope you dont mind all the questions but it seems you have had a very similar experience so it would be great to hear how it all worked out for you. My husband also passed a very large clot a couple of days ago & since then there doesn't seem to be much blood in his urine anymore. He also passed a reasonable sized piece of scab prior to that which also is apparently quite normal. We are hoping that things might start easing up now but we know it can take up to 8 weeks for the full effect of the procedure to be evident, but if the pain could at least ease up that would be great. Look forward to hearing from you. Thanks

I had a bipolar TURP 2 weeks ago. Recovery has been easy. Discharge from hospital after 24 hours. A little discomfort urinating at first. Pain meds for about a day. Able to resume light exercise within 5 days. Riding a bike and working out after a week. A little soreness but not bad. I am able to pee like a young man which is great. It now takes about 20 seconds to empty bladder rather than 2 minutes. Still awaken to pee 3x per night (used to be 4-5x per night). Dr. said that that would be the last symptom to change. Urge to pee is stronger when I exercise. Ejaculation is less than before but not fully retrograde -- less messy!. I am 60 and in good shape which may have affected my outcome. So far I am very glad I had the procedure. I had a large medial lobe so urolift was not an option.
What type of electrode was used in your bipolar TURP? Was it a loop like a monopolar TURP or a plasma button?
I have no idea
But the urologist did tell you he was doing a bipolar TURP, right? Did he say why he has switched from the monopolar TURP?
Turp is the worst procedure you can have. If it was so great they would have had come up with other procedure. My urologist will not do them unless it is a last resort. Find something else to have done. To many side effects and some men have given up sex after because it is not the same.
I had TURP surgery 9 weeks ago. Still have burning sensation when urinating, but not as bad as I had up to a couple of weeks ago. Urination flow is strong and full orgasm. I have to admit, the recovery has been slow and painful. I was told 6 weeks for full recovery but at 6 weeks I had strong burning when urinating and it felt like I got kicked in the groin when I finished urinating. I did not expect the recovery to take this long or be so painful.
I had the laser Turp 10 days ago as removed the catheter myself after 4 days because it was bothersome but was after to empty my bladder although with some pain. Over the last 3 days I have seen the true benefit of the surgery and actually enjoy being able to pee almost across the moon with little to no pain. I do have occasional spots of blood if I am very active but it passes quickly along with what appears to be scare tissue from the healing prostate. Although it was a tough week I am glad I had the surgery.
I had turp three years ago. After I healed about 6 weeks later I go like a race horse. Best thing I could have done, I no longer have any problems.
The ONLY side effect I had was that I was no longer able to ejaculate out of my penis. The ejaculate went backward into my bladder and I urinated it out. I sure do miss seeing my penis shoot cum..........
Can you still ejaculate after having a turp surgery?
Does the prostate continue to enlarge after turp surgery?
yes, me too, going to see the doc in the am, i will have to be violated by camera to see what happened, i was initially better but have low stream pressure, cant get it out like before surgery, some retro ejaculation, but no pain.
Well I’m 8 day into my Turp, I was amazed at not feeling the pain I was expecting, I have a HUGE prostate 226cc and to top it off I had 4 7-9mm bladder stones, they had me stay overnight while they did a bladder flush and wanted to send me home with the flushing Folly and I sad no way, the flushing Folly was most if not all of the pain I had so they removed it and put a smaller one in and since it was Thanksgiving week they had me keep it for 6 days, after 4 days I was in so much pain at the tip of the penis I just removed it and have been peeing okay but have sudden urge to pee and only have a little come out, I am now experiencing some debris and blood/small clots in the urine, as stated prior I to have the sudden urge a lot so I decrease the water intake and that was a mistake so I’m back to 8oz for every hour I’m awake, I hope in the weeks to come things change and settle down as it seems I’m looking more now for a restroom than I was before the Turp. The pain I have is mostly in the shaft and peeing.
