I have been reading these posts and they all sound so familiar. I was diagnosed 3 years ago with ESS (Empty Sella Syndrome) - not a lot is known about it. There are two different types of ESS, Primary and Secondary, where you are born with Primary and "contract" Secondary (after a head injury or pituitary tumor). They suspect mine is Secondary - irrelevant really, as there is no cure.
I have had all the tests required including MRIs and lumbar punctures. My disabled pituitary gland gives off all the wrong signals in my pot tests and bloods so my body thinks its pregnant, and menstruating, has Glandular Fever, meningitis and I also have galactorrhea (green nipple discharge).
I have suffered puffy eyes, sinus pain, major headaches/migraines, intolerance to bright light, intolerance to extreme temperatures, fatigue, mood swings, constipation, extreme slow metabolism, low stress tolerance, and inner ear problems consistently over the past 3 years. I have learned to live with it now but strive to find a wonder pill. I was told by my endocrinologist that its normal for my age (40s), my size (100kg now!) and that Im a smoker. (I havent met anyone else yet with this prob). I was physically fit and active up until this happened - but was still a smoker!
The only thing that I have found that alleviates the sinus prob (the biggest problem for me) is an antihistimine that could be bought over the counter at any pharmacy. But with the contraversy over the wide-spread production of P in many parts of the world now this product is harder and harder to buy as it contains the product required to "bake" the class A drug.
Despite my many efforts to convince the chemists that this medicine is the easiest and most effective to relieve my "face pain" I find myself resorting to the less contraversial form of PE Sudafed or Sinutab. Less effective also but what else can I do?...
The pressure behind my eyes is damaging my eyesight, and the fullness feeling that is constant in my inner ears is a natural part of my life now. :'( I live a normal life and work full time as a teacher, but I do live alone. Its easier, safer (for all concerned) and I have my own routine to tolerate my own "episodes".
If anyone has any "wonder drugs" out there that would let me step back into an active healthy living life please let me know. I miss my sports, the sun, and the ability to live an active social life, without popping a pain killer. 8-|

Has anybody tried using old-fashioned moisture either from a humidifier or hot moisture from boiling water?
You should all get checked for Candida.
i posted on this forum a while ago and since then have seen several different doctors and been back to an ENT several times. he can't see anything wrong with my sinuses or nose or ears, but prescribed me amitryptiline (not sure of spelling) which si an anti depressant, but in small dosages works as a muscle realxant and has greatly helped the pressure in my forehead. the feeling hasnt not gone completely and i can still feel that my ears are blocked and theres a feeling of blockage in my lower jaw, but i do feel alot better. as for the tiredness it has certainly got better than when i first started feeling tired but i still feel fatigued in the evening and getting up in the morning but during in the day i generally feel alot more awake. the tiredness might be due to the fact that the amitryptiline can also have a side effect of drowsiness. i have also been taking loratadine to fight my allergy to dust mites and a nose spray. i hope this might be worth trying for others who suffer with similar symptoms and can hopefully see some improvement.
hi to all sufferers. I am now two months into my sinus infection, i get chronic fain pain, around the neck, back of head, ears, popping ears and fullness, nausea. My nose is clear but i have thick mucus at the back of my throat. I now have a swollen lymph node behind my ear so i have had a course of antibiotics again, the pain is still there. I had vision problems which were diagnosed as optic neuritis which is now clearing up. Even when i dont have the pain there is a numb feeling in and around my ears. Beconase seems to be doing nothing. I think my immune system is very low after two pregnancies in two years and breastfeeding. Also i have been drinking alot of milk 4 breastfeeding which hasnt helped. Anyone else had these problems after childbirth or suffered with ON and had a history of sinus probs and face pain?
WEll i have experienced a lot of those symptoms. I have had pressure in my eyes behind my eyes dry eye feeling pressure in my tear ducts, headaches. No nasal drainage but feel lots of pressure in my nose and in my cheek bones i also get the stiff neck and fell exhausted all time. I dont know if anyone else gets this but i get this off balanced feeling like i am on a boat and everytime i walk i feel as if i am going up and down when in reality i am just walkign strait. I also get where it feels as if the floor is dropping on me or moving from underneath me. I am thinking this i from pressure in the ears. My ears hurt a lot and they pop alot and at times hurt as though someone has pushed a needle through it. No signs of infection in my my ears. My gums and teeth hurt a lot and so does my jaw line. I feel like this has taken a HUGE toll over my life. I hate it so much. i actually just finished a round of antibiotics Zythromax which didnt do much for me. Doctor stated that i had a broncial infection and a sinus infection so that is why i was givein Zythromax. i go to bed early but still wake up as though i only slept 1 hr. In regards to the meds i have tried. Ih ave tried Nasonex, Flonase, which both made me feel as though i had the flu which i stopped taking, i ahve taken amoxicillin adn zythromax i tried claratin and sudafed, saline nasal wash and much more and have felt no difference at all. i think some of it is stress but finding the cure to this is impossible for me right now. I wish i could stop this i hav never suffered with this c**p. But i was reading and no one seemed to mention the off balanced feelign so i dont know if any one else has.
I have something very similar to owenyarnold. Earlier this year I started feeling very tired soon after drinking even small amounts of alcohol (one glass of wine or one beer). The next day I would have pressure behind my eyes, strong headaches (particularly pressure on my temples), blocked ears and feel extremely lethargic. This gradually got worse to the point where I was barely able to get out of bed for the next couple of days and it would take almost two weeks for me to feel "normal" after alcohol. Since April I have avoided alcohol, but have had slight pressure on my temples and blocked ears constantly, and I feel tired early in the day. A CT scan showed nothing, but after a skin prick test it showed I was allergic to dust-mites. The immunologist suggested claramax (similar to loratadine, an antihistamine). I've been taking this for 6 weeks. I do have more energy, the pressure on my temples has subsided somewhat, but I still have blocked ears. I've tried drinking alcohol again and I am still pretty tired the next day, but I don't feel as bad as I used to. The anti-histamines seem to do something (I have no idea why), but I can't say I am really 100%.
I was just wondering if anyone has had a similar experience, and whether they have tried anything else?
Owenyarnold - have you tried anything else since? do you still have problems with alcohol?

hi davey821
i would suggest trying to get prescribed the amitryptiline as it has helped me greatly. but i didnt just want to end up taking this drug for the rest of my life and so looked into trying to get to the root of the rpoblem in terms of which muscles were being relaxed by the drug and so causing the problem i the first place. i always felt it was something to do with muscles in my neck, and then from another post found on a forum, i found this website; http://www.dmtcmassage.com/aromatherapy.html, and alot of the symptoms i have seem to relate to what is being described when talking about strain of the sternocleidomastoid muscle and trapezius muscle which both run down the neck. this was only very recently and so my doctor has referred me to an osteopath but i am also going to get some massages to see if they can losen the muscles. i hope this helps.

I just had to respond to all the posts I've read on this subject. What a relief it is to find I'm not the only one going through this. I can feel your frustration because I find that doctors don't take this as a serious health problem...only as a nuisance problem. But this has effected my ability to hold down a job and even function as a normal person. I was born with severe allergies and was very sick as a child. It would start out as allergies, but lead into pnemonia, strep throat, etc. etc. I had tubes in my ears as a child, then finally at age 16 (am now 52,) I started on allergy shots and stayed on them until age 26 and when I stopped them I hadn't had a problem for 20 years. Then about 3 years after moving to Greenville, SC (last year was the No. 1 worst place in the country for allergies), I began suffering with sinus problems. Over the last 6 years, it has gotten so progressively worse that now I wake up with swollen, matted eyes, half swollen face and my sinus's are so packed, I can't sleep much, from not being able to breath. It takes most the day for it to drain enough to even breath, but am noticing trouble getting air into my lungs. I'm always so exhausted I can't seem to function anymore and loose my voice a few times a year. My ears are clogged and I have hearing loss. I don't have insurance right now but did get accepted at a Research Center for a nasal study and they sent me to an ENT doctor. I was told I had many issues, one of which is something wrong with both ears (I believe it was inverted ears), but anyway, the doctor said it will lead to permanent damage. I've been put on every nasal spray there has been out, every prescription medication and even just recently tried the Neti Pot Sinu Cleanse(as seen on Oprah), but found that caused me extreme pain in my sinus (I believe there may be a blockage). As someone else had mentioned, I was told that dairy products increase mucas production so tried staying away from that (NOT AN EASY TASK!!) I know I didn't post a solution but I wanted to comment on this issue because I can see I'm not alone in suffering from this all, nor in my frustration with finding a solution.
I hear all these posts and sympothize with all of you. It is 2:15am on
the east coast where I am and am replying because I cannot sleep
either. I have tried the zicam, nasonex, sinus wash etc, etc, etc. and
nothing works for me. Just back from the doctors office with 3 perscriptions, two inhalers and an antibiotic. I have just finished the first
night and day of taking these and still stopped up. Had an exray of my
lungs but apparently the doctors saw some swelling or collapsing of the
airwaves, its all beyond me, I don't see what thats got to do with me being able to breathe through my nose. I have taken allegra for alergies
and all the over the counter drugs for the flu and alergies. Ive had the
flu shot last november and this is the worst year Ive had with nasal
congestion. I think Ive read just about every blog online for a remedy
and its all about the same. I dont have insurance either and these places
like health plus and urgent care just don't really seem like they care much to me. Anyway I don't have a cure either but I am there with
all of you that are going through this as well. Hang in there. Guest

I have had sinus and allergy problems since I was a teenager. I am now in my forties and find that the chronic sinusitis problem is getting more chronic (sinus pressure all of the time). I have tried all of the meds (both prescribed and non) and found that sudafed helped the most. However, after taking sudafed for months at a time found that I was getting hooked! I am now off of the sudafed. Right now I drink 3 cups of coffee/day just to alleviate the fatigued caused by the constant sinus pressure. Curiously, I also have found that drinking alchol makes my sinus condition worse. I am now seriously thinking about surgery but like many on this board have also heard that even if the surgery works the symptoms return a few years later. :'(
I have suffered from chronic sinusitus for 3 yrs. I have had endoscopic surgery from a best in class doctor and I would consider it a total failure. Medications (Nasacourt, etc) also have not helped. Acupunture has been my only salvation however it takes a real comittment. I also notice a direct correlation btwn alcohol consumption and my condition. My acupuncturist has been saying stop the alcohol from the moment I started going to him. I hate to say it but he's right. He has also gotten me to stop orange juice, most cheese, and most dairy products. This all helps. What I have come to realize is that there is no silver bullet therefore I have to change my lifestyle and think about my health wholistically. I know, boring, but it has been the only solution for me.
hi friends
i have been having sinus like symptoms for the past three years. i first thought it had got to do with my wisdom teeth so i removed all compacted four wisdom teeth but the pressure around my eyes, and very strange pull behind the ears existed so it gave me dizzy spells. i always feel tired and sometime the head spins and am not able to balance. i really dont know what to do. doctors say it is nothing.

Hi, my son bought a baseball cap last year and wore it for 1 week before returning it. He claims that now he has constant sinus pressure on his face due to the cap being to small. I am wondering if this created just enough pressure on his sinus points to start his sinus pain. Which leads me to believe if you find your accupressure points for your sinuses and you used the right techniques, you might be able to alleviate some of your sinus pain. I think in my son's case it was reversed maybe because of the wrong type of pressure used. If that makes any sense. In addition, I have suffered for years with sinus pain and I think my main problem is inflammation, I know it is. I have started taking 2, 81mg baby aspirin a day and will see if this helps. Also bromelain and quercetin are 2 anti-inflammatory supplements which can also be found in different foods. I would check this out and see if you can bring down swelling of the sinus passages which can cause beau coup pain.
I hear all of these post and also sympathize. The doctors do not know what they are doing and often make a person's symptoms worse.
For years, I suffered from totally blocked sinus passages which was causing me to lose my hearing and the fatigue worsened to the point I became a total crab >;) . I was told that allergies were to blame, and this may be true, but any drug I was provided, only worsened the hearing loss.
The only thing which helped me was to move completely out of New York and the environmental pollutants associated there and move to New Jersey.
I forgot about rugs, got a wood floor, and only use air conditioning instead of breathing the outside air.
Doing this significantly unclogged the sinus passages to the point where my hearing aides are actually starting to become effective and I can communicate more effectively these days.
A lessoned to be learned: Will doctors help? By mistake and nothing more. Their degree makes them feel they know better about a person after seeing them for 2 seconds then someone actually feeling the symptoms.
A person has to be very assertive with doctors, and if the treatment isn't working, study up on it, and SEE WHAT IS BEST FOR EACH INDIVIDUAL PERSON.
Good luck from one who is now, after all of this, just starting to feel human again.
