My sinus problems first appeared in the form of an intolerance to alcohol - the tiniest amount of any drink, even alcohol free drinks, would leave me with what felt like a four day hangover. Starts with a very dry mouth and severe thirst, then next day my eyes find it hard to focus, i have a foggy head, post nasal drip, dizziness and extreme fatigue. I very rarely touch alcohol anymore (which is very hard as a mother of two small kids!) but i find that i now get these symptoms anyway. Ater suffering for a year I went along to my doc who told me he thought i had vasomotor (non allergic) rhinitis triggered by alcohol and has given me beconase nasal spray. I have to say that when i am taking this i do generally feel well, but it takes a good 3 weeks to work properly and if i get a throat infection, and with two small children i get a lot, i have to stop taking it, so its not ideal as obviously it takes another three weeks to work. Curiously tho, at christmas i went out with friends and drank a bottle and half of wine and the next day only had a normal hangover, no sinus effects at all.....perhaps the answer lies in drinking more, not less!

Does anyone else suffer from dry mouth and thirst with their sinus problems as its not something i have seen mentioned a lot?

To sinusitussufferer and Veronica 34.

We have apparently the very same problem, which dissapears when we are away from the "allergen / pollutant"

Here is a description of my problem:
I have experienced the same symptoms (dizziness, foggy head, lack of concentration, pressure in sinuses and sinus drainage) three times in my life. By analyzing how it comes and goes, I know in my case it's related to allergies. The first time, it started a few months after I put carpet in my bedroom. I removed the carpet, replaced by wood floor and the symptoms progressively dissapeared. The 2nd time, it happened when I moved in with friends who had lots of pets ... I moved out and symptoms dissapeared. This time is more complicated. I moved to Germany 1 year ago (after 3 years in the US) and the symptoms re-appeared. We thought it was linked to something in the new apartment so we moved into another one but the symptoms remain so I have no idea to what I am allergic to this time. The good thing is that the symptoms dissapear when I travel for several weeks.

I visited 10 doctors, tried a series of pills, vitamins, anti-histamine, netty pots, decongestants etc. Nothing really works, except moving. The weird thing is that some days the symptoms are bad for 1 or 2 hours in the morning and then more or less go away, while some other days I feel bad and out all day. Morning is always bad, but it only starts 5-10 min after getting up. Only chlor-trimeton might help a little. It apparently works for some people with similar symptoms

Veronica34, did you ever find out what caused your symptoms in NYC? and for sinusitussufferer in New Zealand?

Have others experienced these symptoms after moving to a new region / new apartment?

Good luck all!

I've suffered from Sinus problems, migraines, chronic headaches, face pain, eye pain and ear pain. I'm now 32. My symptoms were progressively getting worse and I have small children to look after. No nasal spray, allegy tabs, medicines would work. Even the strongest painkillers weren't helping. My hangovers were so bad. The pain becomes so bad I be in bed for days. Extreme thirst, tiredness. After demanding something be done as it's been 14 years... I was referred to ENT for the third time. My Consultant who was amazing, took control given the history of being in hospital with cluster migraine and the chronic headaches, he order scans right away, I got the scans and he put a telescope up through my nasal passages and bingo, my left nasal passage is almost closed over. There is a bone enlarged and other things around it which is gradually closing my nasal passage over and therefore preventing the flow around my sinus. My surgery is schedule for September. Panicking... yes.

It is worth shot to go to your GP and be referred to the ENT . My consultant has told me he can file the bone and take a few things away but he also has advised that the sinus problems may not be caused by this. I won't know until a few eeks after the operation. He told me the weather, which i always notice if it's going to rain during the day my sinus become so sore and once the rainfall is over the pressure is not as bad. he also said allergies to dust, pets or wheat could be a cause of this. It's definitley worth a shot to go for some allergy test. He also prescribed me Galpsued medicine which dries your sinuses up. I have found this a bit helpful, it relieves some of the pressure. Hopre this helsp someone.

I have all these sinusitis problems too. Cause: removal of a benign tumor in my gum (3 teeth missing there - they have taken it out with incision in gums) through my sinuses : malpractice. But I also discovered that I have myofacial pain - headaches, tight jaw, tight forehead, painful nose and cheeks due to STRESS. The only remedy is amotriptoline 1 pill does it, but that knocks me out.... vicious circle.....

I hyave been having symtems of what started off I thought as sinus problems. My left side of my nose and cheek feel congested. Not to mention a fullness in my ears that is very agrivating. I get dizzy unexpectedly, feel tired often, and i'm only 28. Ive seen my share of doctors and been to the ER several times due to extreme dizziness. Ive had theese prblems for over a year. No one thionks anything is wrong with me but I know what my body feels. I have been on antibiotics and have tried my share of home remedies. Nothing seems to work. It affects me at home and at work. I just cant seem to find out what the problem is.

I believe it's Narcolepsy. You'll be suprised. Take an MSLT.

The eye symptoms you won't find on wikipedia.
It's related, exactly the way you describe it.

I have a sinus infection for the first time in my life. My head falls asleep at night which then wakes me up. I feel pressure around my eyes. And now I have ringing in my ears. It sounds like crickets sometimes and then other times sounds like a constent bell ringing. My ears/throat/nose doctor is suggesting surgery. My PCP doctor said surgery will cause more infections. Don't know what to do.

I have had blocked sinuses for as long as I can remember and I am now 65 years old. I have had all the associated health issues which compliments this condition ie pressure behind eyes, facial pain and discomfort, breathing issues (especially during summer months and In a centrally heated room at winter time) I get at least 8 hours sleep but still feel tired as soon as I wake up and I feel the need to cat nap even more than once or twice a day. I think the last symptom is by far the worst and I have suffered it for the last 20 years. My occupation for more than 25 years has been a bus driver and I have associated my tiredness with my job not realising that it might be caused by blocked sinuses. I have been diagnosed as having narrower than usual nasal passages and have had two small operations, one to straighten a bone in my nose and drain the nasal passage, and the other to remove polyps in my nose. Both I may add we're quite painfully and did initially give some relief but after a short time (6months) the symptoms reacurred just as bad. I don't know if a surgical procedure is available to correct my nasal passage so I must enquire further. I have had eye tests ( no problems other than ageing ) allergy tests ( nothing found ) nothing in my family history. I'm sorry that I can't offer any quick fix to anyone reading this,I've had this sinus problem for so long that I just got to get on with it, but I will be looking at this topic to see if there is any help out there.

Hi there, I suffer from the same things as you and I also get an opaque substance in my nose which is often white and crusty. Did you ever find out what this was please as I am also going through the menopause and I thought this could be part of it. Also my concentration is really bad and I just look ill all the time. I have been to the doctors twice and had various steroid sprays and antibiotics too. Thanks for reading and hopefully you will have a reply that would help me.
