Hello all,
I have the same symptoms but going off the photos mine seem to be more chronic.
I first noticed symptoms when i was a kindgergarten teacher about 8 years ago and they havent gone away for any good length of time since then!
Due to the large amount of variables that exist it is almost impossible to single the cause out however, i went to Japan for a 3 week holiday about a year ago and it just dissapeared and completely healed itself. It was so weird, but a good weird. And believe it or not i came home and a couple of weeks past and they were back to their normal painful self.
At the moment, i am drinking about a litre of oolong tea a day as i heard it would help. I am continuosly trying to replicate all the variables from my holliday in Japan but with no luck as yet. When i rule out Oolong tea as no good, i might change toothpaste.
Any comments from anyone?
BTW, how do you attach photos to this discussion?

My right finger peels and seems to be centered around when I eat wheat. I also have an under-active thyroid issue which seems to have started around the same time as my finger peeling.
also having thyroid problems.
tsh level higher than normal
ft3, ft4 normal
last time the peeling started my tsh level increased at the same time.
maybe the thyroid is the reason!?

I realize this post started awhile ago, but wondering if anyone has had any further successes? I am Hashimoto's Hypothyroid as well. The peeling started about the same time my thyroid started (over 20 years ago). I've been to dermatologists to no avail. One even said it's all in my head and keep my hands out of water. I've been researching on and off for years now. I've tried most of what was listed throughout the various posts over the years. What I have noticed that made a difference was the following:
1) Various detoxing, especially the ones that last at least 5 days (Dr. Shulze intestinal cleanse, saltwater cleanse). I don't know why except that maybe it's candida related? But I've taken Nystatin for a month and noticed no difference. One doc said I need to be on it for 6 months to a year, but I'm not convinced and that's too expensive for me with no insurance.
2) Permeability Factors which has a mix of L-Glutamine, Vitamin E, N-Acetl D-Glucosamine, Gamma-Linolenic Acide, Gamma Oryzanol & Phosphatidylcholine in it. I've tried various brands of similar formulas, but this one seems to work best and I have no idea why except that it must have something to do with my gut. It seems to soften my fingers without bringing on the peeling. I haven't stuck out the instructions (which require it for 4 months), but I think I'll be seeing my thyroid specialist soon and am going to inquire about it since he is also familiar with the nutritional side of things as well as the medical treatment.
Things that make it worse:
1) Any vitamins that increase my metabolism and cause my fingers to mildly sweat, including stimulants such as caffeine.
2) Sugar
3) Also after eating (but not really after drinking), I sometimes notice my fingers will seem to get moist and the process will begin towards the peeling.
If anyone has had any further findings, I'd love to hear. Otherwise, I hope my experience will contribute to someone else as well.

I've had dry cracking, splitting, bleeding, fingers for several months now. I work on a keyboard daily and it's to the point I almost have to quit my job a I cannot type without pain. It's like I cannot even get a jot that uses my hands, that's how bad it's been. Been to several dermo's and they all say it's Eczema and gave me steroid shots and creams which only help a LITTLE.
I've tried a bunch of creams and lotions and stuff, nothing works.
Yesterday my wife saw a commercial for a NEW product by Neosporin and I have to say I'm on day 2 and I'm having no troubles typing to you all. I had to share .... give it a try ...

Hi. I just noticed your post about the cracked and bleeding finger tips. I too have a similar problem, and I have chewed the skin on my fingertips for years (weird, I know --- started when I had a scab that I nibbled off of a finger).
My fingers look identical to those pictures. It is limited to my thumb and index finger. Any ideas?
Had this same issue for about 10 years, comes and goes but could never work out why it would heal up. Started drinking Beroca multi vitamin (tablet that dissolves in water with a fizzing action, normally taken for hang overs), been drinking a glass about 3 times a week and I am completely healed. About a month ago I ran out of Beroca and stopped drinking it, problem came back, started taking Beroca again and hands healed. I also read somewhere that bananas helped them, maybe a similar vitamin in the two and I am going to try eating bananas. Anyway give it a go as you have nothing to lose.
my aunt has that and it is dermatitis they prescribed a special hand wash and ointment for it. and also told her to try and keep her hands dry and they gave her a cream to put on at night with gloves or something over it
My husband says this is exactly how his symptoms go. We discovered a few years ago that it was related to strawberry allergy. If he stays away from strawberries, he doesn't get it; as soon as he eats them (even not touching them with his hands) the cracking thumb and fingers occurs. I'm not seeing anyone else relate this problem to an allergy, but his is definitely related to the strawberry allergy. It's something you might look into.
My ex-wife had problems with peeling and spliting skin on her fingers for years. Just recently, she was diagnosed with celiac disease. After being gluten free for a few months, the skin problem is gone.
Might I ask where everyone is from that has this problem? I think its a North American thing this problem.
I'm in Portland Oregon. Dry and cracking fingertips started for me 16 months ago. Never has gone away, but I keep it in check by rubbing Eucerin Aquaphor ointment on my fingers 6 - 10 times a day, and wearing cotton gloves loaded with ointment at night.
It gets much worse when I travel, particularly to a dry climate such as Nevada or Arizona.

I am from Australia. I wrote on here 1 month ago saying how I was drinking a multi vitamin (beroca), I am still completely cured, so much so that I don't even put cream on my hands like I used to, would be a nightly ritual of rubbing massive amounts of cream into every little crevice on my hands.
Please believe me, I am not a sales person for this multi vitamin and I happened to stumble across it by accident. I would like other people to give it a go so I can see for myself that it works on other people. Come give it a go you have nothing to lose.

Initially I had this problem in 2000, and the dry cuts used to appear in all my fingers, at the creases of the fingers. In 2004 I went to a Homeo specialist and was prescribed some medicines - can't remember what they were - for 6 months. After 6 months, they were gone in all fingers. But, the dry cut persistently appeared in my right index finger and has been with me until now. Recently I had done some investigations and found that this was due to Hyperthyroidism. I have been prescribed natural medicines for this and I can see this very slowly, yet definitely, receding.
