It seems partly psychological. I can't seem to figure out the mechanism behind it, but all I have to do is THINK about my stomach and it will start to act up. Anxiety definitely makes it worse. And still, even if I don't think about it at all, the symptoms happen on their own. Sometimes I'm completely relaxed and the noises happen. Sometimes I'm anxious and the noises don't happen; I noticed that even though driving can be a high-stress activity for me, my stomach seems to actually lock up and "pause" while I'm on the road rather than kick into overdrive like it sometimes does.
I also think it's a feedback loop: stomach noises - stress - more stomach noises - more stress.
I've mostly tried various probiotics, including some expensive options. They haven't helped. I thought they would work because as a teenager and young adult I took a lot of antibiotics for strep throat. I thought maybe I ruined my gut bacteria which is why I used to be able to digest anything and now everything gives me gas.
I had a blood test including for gluten allergy and nothing was out of the ordinary. They prescribed an antacid which did help my heartburn but didn't affect the bloating. Do doctors even know what this is yet? I just know I'm going to go through a battery of expensive tests and they'll just tell me everything is fine.

I am 41, male, and I easily put on weight if I do not mind my food. Having the EXACT same symptoms described few posts before,- for 11 years now-, I am still trying to find out what causes this. This problem has ruined my life. There is no pain, but sudden loud long lasting gurgling that lasts for 5 to 6 seconds and can be heard from a distance. The only thing that seems to be effective for about a week is antibiotics. The symptoms return after a week and I feel like I died again, yet for another time.

Hello guys. I've read all 24 pages of this topic. Let me tell my story and my thoughts about what I've read here.
5 years ago I started belching tones of gas all of a sudden. So I'd started eating the food that causes less of this problem and could live with it. 1.5 years later the gas reflux had started. All this gas started going to the throat and cause pressure for 30 seconds. A year later I went to gastro doctor and she prescribed me a medication to treat the helicobacter pilory. It was 2 antibiotics and PPI. And for a weak of taking it my symptomes of gas reduced by 90%. The pressure in the throat went away, but the symptoms came back after the treatment. Two months later I started taking another very acid medication for other problem and it gave me a big increas of the gas. And this butt growling thing appeared and now I live with it for almost 2 years. Now I'm 24 so when it started I had a job. It was so embarasing to work with this issue, so I had to quit. I dived deep into the reaserch of what's happening with me so here's the explanation. If you wanna get rid of the butt growling you have to get rid of the exess gas production. And first thing you need to consider is SIBO (Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth). Bacteria produce gas, so you have to do THE HYDROGEN-METHANE BREATH TEST. This is the first test you need to do when dealing with gas! That explains why antibiotics worked for me. So if you have SIBO the doctor (most of them don't know jack about it) will prescribe you the antibiotics and educate yourself to. You need to find a SIBO practitioner in your area. Watch YouTube video, read reddit SIBO, listen to podcast of Mark Pimentel on soundcloud and UTube. If your symptoms will come back after the treatment that means you have an underlying root cause. In most cases it's a slowed-down motility. But there are plenty of reasons, Celiac is on of them, that's why it worked for some ppl. There is another test - aspirate of duodenul juices. It's more invasive but you can check the sample for candida, and parasites as well. If you take probiotics and noticed that it makes you worse that's another sign of SIBO, you have a bacterial overgroth and add more gas producers.
I come from Russia, so it's intresting that all the people who dealing with this growling sound started experiencing the same social anxiety no matter where you come from. But if you analyse this topic no one exept for 1 man mentioned the SIBO, so please consider this diagnosis. AS for me I wait untill the test is avaliable again in my contrey (waited 11 months already).

I’ve had the same problem as you for 3 years now and I’m going to school soon so I’m hoping to get rid of this problem before then.
