I had the same problem. It started this year and it was horrible. I still have it from time to time but not NEARLY as often as I did. Now I don't really worry about my body making noises. Here's the ways I've helped my body relax and not feel so anxious and maybe if you try these out it could help you too. 1.) ASMR videos: youtube it. I highly recommend that every night before you go to bed you fall asleep to MissMeridians sleep clinic or sleep therapy video in youtube. It has helped me a lot, I listen to it almost daily as well as other asmr videos I have found relaxin

2.) have the mind set that after school, who's really going to remember? Go ahead and do things that are embarrassing, I believe that builds confidence once you've stepped out of your comfort box. When you start to get the feeling that your body is going to make a noise, tell yourself that it won't happen. Tell your body to stop. Breathe. Distract yourself from your body making noises by doodling, going through your binder, going through your backpack, anything you feel will distract your mind. 3.) have something to look forward to after school. It can be that you're watching a series and waiting for the next episode, maybe you want to draw, reorganize your room (helps a lot), even hang out with friends. 4.) pretend it's not there. Tell yourself that you're fine, you are completey relaxed and okay, you're body isn't doing anything weird. Fake it till you make it, seriously. I wouldn't even think about it, I would distract myself and eventually I really did stop thinking about it and it rarely hapoens now. I really do think it has to do with your mind. I believe that when it first started it was just your body, then once you were aware of it and started worrying about it, your brain sends your body signals that have the same

I posted this somewhere else, I have been suffering with this problem for a year, and was scared out of my mind for ap tests. I was more nervous for the fear of my stomach than the actual test!  I tried talking to the college board etc for a seperate room but i wasnt allowed. I havnt talked to a doctor yet but I realized my problem is mostly mental. Not only does my stomach growl but my large intestine growls sounding like an enternal fart. I would go to bed ever night scared of the next day. The morning of my first ap test, i ate a pancake and an egg(my safe foods) and sat on a toliet for a hour trying to have a bowel movement. I wore super comfy cloths and sat on a jacket that i made the shape of a O. I found this worked amazingly. Somehow in the support it quiets my lower intestines. Anywho my stomach did growl during the test, but then i realized, alot of people's were, no one cares! Once i realized this and got over my self i started feeling better. Even if your stomach does growl, there is nothing you can do about it. After making it through 3 ap tests i started feeling better, then during a health exam it was HORRIBLE and i was back to feeling nervous over my stomach.I hated it so much. Then i discovered peptmo bismo and gas x pills work wonderfully. Before my act i was so nervous, i took a bunch of gas-x pills, during the test when it would start up, i would slip one, it worked wonders! with college starting up in a month im so scared! Im in small classrooms and since im only 16 ad already feel judged, the last thing i want is my stomach and butt to make disgusting noises. I feel for all of you and i wish we could all have class together, im going to see a doctor soon and see if maybe i have an ulcer or  h pylori bacteria infection. either way I strongly suggest you dont let this rule your life! Truly no one cares, and once you get over yourself, the problem will go away.

Hi, I am a 15 year old female going to grade 10 and I have the exact same problem, literally the exact same symptoms as you do. It started in grade 7 but I was so happy to be in junior high, that I never ever thought of the problem I just ignored the noises. Grade 8 comes and I notice the noises which made me so self conscious. But my worse year was the past year grade 9 I never ever went to school I missed 60+ days and theres only 100+ teaching days in a year I remember at the start of grade 9 I said to myself, hmmm maybe I'm like my mother (she has celiac disease, gluten allergy) ,maybe its just a gluten deficiency so I decided to eat gluten free and that progressively helped but it didn't.

Later on that year when the gluten free diet started to stop working (it helped a little but not a lot, I just tricked myself into thinking I had a gluten deficiency), I asked my dad to book a appointment with my family doctor I never told my family doctor all my symptoms as I was completely embarrassed even though he talks about that stuff everyday. I just really didn't know how to spit it out. I told my doctor that I thought I might of had celiac disease & IBS so he gave me some tests to get done (urine and blood work) and the results came out negative for celiac. Turns out I have IBS (which I also kind of knew I had). I never stopped my gluten free diet because I thought it would make things worse… I did try one day at school to have a day with all gluten, It was defiantly the worst idea. I remember seating in language class after just having a Rice Krispie for recess and my stomach just exploding in pain and butt noises in an extremely silent class. After that I strictly stuck to a gluten free diet and the only time I was allowing myself to eat gluten was when I wasn't in school.

I developed anxiety over this stupid thing that both me and you suffer from and I have became so depressed because of it. In Junior kindergarden to grade 7 I very rarely missed a day I loved learning new things and I still do but with this happening to me I just don't have a tolerance for it anymore, In these past 2 year (8 & 9) I have missed over 100+ days of school. Thats 100+ days I could've learnt more things.

I forgot to say that in grade 7-9 I was and still am in LFI (Late French Immersion) that meant having a really small class in a really quite classroom. Those whole three years my class had on 9 people in it, and trust me I hated every second of it.

My symptoms would usually occur late morning so around 11:00am we had school 9:00am-2:47pm and in one day there is six periods with recess and lunch. The growling of my intestines and anus wouldn't shut up for most of the day so I tried several different things to try and stop it:

-Bring a coat and book bag to class, lay the coat on the chair all shrivelled up (on the place where you sit) and lay the book bag behind your back to give you some comfort. The coat sort of prevented the noise as it sort of absorbed the vibration.

-Try the gluten free diet see how it helps you.

-I tried to drink at least two peppermint teas everyday to help sooth my stomach and it really helped I usually only got to drink one peppermint tea because I couldn't bring a kettle and that with me to school!

-Ask your parents to take you out for lunch whenever they can I asked my dad everyday and when he could I felt such a relief because we went home most of the time and I could let out the gas I had to hold in, and even when we never went home for lunch I would feel comfortable enough to pass them in the car.

-I am about to try Gas X before I go back to school and start my freshman year, hopefully it works and I am praying that it does.

-You may have IBS contact your family doctor to find out if you do.

Please let me know if you find out what it is that is wrong with us! I hope you and me both find some comfort soon so that we can go to school and get the credits we need!

sucks to be you nerd. haha just kidding i got this problem too, i got into some trouble with drugs (meth) and i got arrested for possession and sent to county jail which was where i first started noticing i had this problem you mentioned, from county jail i got sent to SAFPF treatment facility for 9 months which was where i realized i really had a serious gastric problem, i know what you mean about the butt growling, they gave me omeprazole and semithicone the omeprazole helped with the stomach growling the semithicone dosent really help with gas, i dont know maybe it works for some people but not for me, well i got stuck in these four hour classes 5 days a week and i was constantly around people so my anxiety got pretty bad, good thing was they put me on prozac(up to 80mg a day now)which i highly recommend if you have this problem it helps with anxiety and depression and makes you not care so much about this problem. well i got out recently (thank god) and i just got a job at a local resturant, i noticed that my stomach and butt does not growl if i am standing up (most of the time) its mainly when iam sitting or laying down. i tried probiotics and charcocaps, pepperment oil, a bunch of other things, nothing seems to work, but iam taking nexium and that helps with my stomach growling, that and the prozac is what i recommend i am waiting for november to come around so i can get insurance so i can go see a gastroenterologist, i was always a loner so iam used to being by myself i occupy my time with movies, music, books, the prozac really helps me stay optomestic, just know you are not alone, you ever seen the whole nine yards? funny matthew perry has a gas problem in that movie, lol, i saw it in safpf and thought it was really funny anyway just try and stay positive this is to everyone who is reading this, it sucks but you just have to be grateful for what you have i watched a couple of movies today, let the right one in and a tale of two sisters i am just sitting here listening to slint's spiderland about to go smoke a cigarette, i am drug and alcohol free now and am doing pretty good, i got a job and a car, just be thankful for what you have. good luck to everyone out there and turn to god if times get tough

Hi Jordan B., do you think that the meth use had something to do with it? I wish I, like you, could say I'm drug free but if I did I would be lying. I have the same problem and am wondering if it's due to the drug use, if it's damaged something in some way? Please reply. Thanks.

It really is normal. I also have it and I hate it. But when people ask "what was that" I just tell them I'm hungry and change the subject. I've noticed when I get off from school and I get that feeling again I just let it all out. Its from holding your farts or bowl movement for too long. So when the feeling comes back and I'm in a comfortable place I just fart.. Its A lot of gas just building up trying to get out.

this is jordan b, yeah i think my problem started from me smoking meth, i remember i had this problem in the 9th grade when i was 14 but only in the morning and than it suddenly stopped one day and i dont ever remember it coming back or concerning me until i got arrested when i was 21 and i started noticing it in county jail and that was after i was already a daily user of smoking meth, so to all the people smoking meth be warned this problem may result from smoking meth, i am not gonna tell you what to do as far as getting clean but i think snorting it is safer than smoking it, just stick to weed, meth does feel good but all i remember is being really paranoid all the time, and if you have anxiety because of this problem all meth will do is increase that anxiety and stress and paranoia, all i do is drink monster and smoke cigarettes now, and if anyone out there has anxiety because of this problem and do not have a way to get anxiety medication try dipenhydramine its an alllergy medication that you can buy over the counter, but they use it in sleeping pills also, you can get like 100 25mg for like $4.00 at the store if you buy a generic brand like equate. try one 25mg at first and see how you feel i take about 3 if i want to chill out for a while, it feels pretty good too :)

Your brilliantly written post decribes exactly my problem and I'm 48. I started npticing it in my late 30s... If it's not the stomach it's the whining bum!! You are so not alone! I can't eat at work in the office other than white rice, flapjacks, bananas or dried apricots (you find the food that works), usually ok in the morning as I cycle to work after porridge, but I have to walk around for about thirty minutes after lunch to have a good fart, and freak out if I have an unexpected afternoon meeting when I've eaten something I shouldn't or have gtrapped wind that makes the noise..also I've discovered that gulping down food and anxiety increases the problem. The more you care what others think, the worse it gets. And even if people do hear (it often does sound louder to you than others, you can get paranoid) do you really care about the type of people who make you feel uncomfortable about this? At college recently an unkind man cracked a joke about it to make me feel bad, everyone else just looked at him like he was sh*t - made himself look small is all! Try eating small amounts often, and peppermint tea instead of too much coffee really helps. Don't let this take over your life - learn to manage it and be confident in yourself - actually you are a superb and gifted writer could this be the career for you?

take bathroom breaks inbetween classes. at way it clears up the area more, try to eat healthier too. i have this problem and it sucks i know. even if you dont have to go to the bathroom try to force it. and dont drink to much water until your out of school. also dont focus on it, in my expirence it only makes it worse and more frequent. it also worsens if you get stressed. hope this is the least but helpful.
