My experience with suboxone and alcohol was marked by a dizziness that i do not normally get with alcohol alone and a empty feeling in my stomach that was not cured by eating. i also felt the jitters that someone else mentioned before. overall, not pleasant.
I take 4 mgs of suboxone every night at about 9pm. At around 11pm, I usually have a couple glasses of red wine. In combination with the boxos, the wine makes my heart go crazy. It starts thumping away, flooding my boody with anxiety. Every time I think am experiencing the beginning of a heart attack. Through trial and error, I have determined that it is DEFINATLEY the suboxone. Look, I party just as hard as the next guy and have enjoyed a life of drinking with medications that say "NO ALCOHOL", but suboxone mixed with even small amounts of booze is a bad call. I hear all the people talking about their uneventful mixing experiences, and I'm not surpised(everyones body chemistry is different) but remember that the folks who had the REALLY bad experiences mixing booze and boxos, arnt posting on this forum.
I've had a couple beers with suboxone in the past the couple times I used it- But I just had a very bad and unexpected reaction. Just started and only 8mg of suboxone per day, but went out to dinner and had a big martini, half bottle of wine and then a couple beers. I should say, I'm a big guy- Anyway I went to bed about midnight and woke up about 4 shaking and nervous- then started to throw up and felt horrible- Alot worse than a hangover- It was a reaction of some sort and scared me bad- I thought about going to the hospital.
Exactly. If you're only having a beer or two in one night, you're probably fine, but anything more than that and you run the risk of suffering the most insane hangover of your life.
12:30 AM - Took pill + alcohol.
12:45 AM - Felt like stereotypical picture of Ray Charles.
12:46 AM - Instantly passed out on couch.
The next day . ..
4:30 PM - Almost didn't wake up in time for work. Slept through three different alarms. Head & stomach are trying to claw their way out of my drug-infected corpse of a body. Poor motor skills & hatred of previous night.
4:35 PM - Vomit #1: Indian food & smell of whiskey.
4:43 PM - Vomit #2: Stomach acid, water & dry heaving.
5:00 PM - Get to work, drink glass of water. Vomit #3: water & dry heaves.
5:05-5:50 PM - Fall asleep in one of the restaurant booths.
5:51 PM - First delivery of the day. The only thing keeping me awake is the fear that I'll either puke out the car window or pass out and have my family find me in a ditch asleep, covered in vomit.
6ish - 8:00ish PM - Two more water-based projectile vomits, mostly out the nose & five more deliveries to places out of town.
8:00 PM - Beg to go home complaining of having the flu, which is EXACTLY what it was like.
8:02 PM - Bed is most comfortable it's ever felt.
8:04 PM - Vomit #5 in bedside trashcan.
Don't do it. It's not worth it one bit.

Hello, Im 24yo 210lbs and 5'11. I used to shoot dalota k8s daily. was a heavy drug user (x, hard, ice). i tried to clean up at a methadone clinic, which was a horrible idea. now i have a wonderful doctor at a pain management center in FL. he got me off methadone and on suboxone 16mgs/daily (8mg/s every 12 hrs). I was on the suboxone for 2 weeks b4 i decided i felt good enough to drink. me and my ex drank, and im a lightweight with alcohol btw. I did my 8mg sub at 7pm. drank 6 shots at around 9pm, which i can usually handle. then for the next couple hours i threw up about 15 times. went to bed. woke up 5am feeling weird, my body started to shake and i fell on the ground unable to move, was sweating very badly, my ex got me some water, i guess i was dehydrated from throwing up. but after drinking water i felt better. threw up some more and went back to bed (this time drinking lots of water). woke up at 11am having a horrible hangover all day.
so like the other guy said, everybody's body is different. but obviously there is a problem with some people and the combination of subs and alcohol. If your going to drink and you are on subs, make sure you start out with just a couple drinks/shots and see how it makes you feel. And always drink lots of water, especially if you do start throwing up.

drink like a fish buddy if your on suboxone you were doping opiates so you must be crazy like us what the hell is a little alcohol with suboxone.Right now im under the influence of suboxone 1 liter of brandy and working on a few glasses of wine
Alcohol works on the same brain receptors as suboxone and opiates in a way. The more you drink, the more you're fighting with the suboxone, this causes dizziness and nausea. At the same time, you're pushing out the suboxone and feeling withdraw symptoms. This results in an increased "hangover effect", you're actually just feeling sore and sick from lack of suboxone in your system. I drink in excess to push suboxone out of my system so I can get high again sometimes, but it's not fun at all. You really shouldn't drink on subs, but if you do, make sure you take more first thing in the morning and prepare for the nausea by not drinking on an empty stomach, and ginger has helped me in the past... so if you plan on drinking at a sushi resaurant, you should be ok, just chew a few pieces before you down that sake bomb!
I've been taking 16 mg of suboxone daily for five months. i always thought drinking on it would make me deathly ill, so i've avoided it, but this weekend i went to an annual hippie festival that i've been going to for five years. half the point is to get shitfaced all day and smoke weed and do drugs. since i'm clean from drugs, i couldn't do the latter, but didn't want to get left out of the partying. (when in rome, do as the romans do... when at a hippie fest, do as the hippies do!) so i'd drink a beer or two (i've always been a two beer gay) and i would be totally shitfaced, feel great, and have no negative side effects. it wouldnt last too long, only for an hour or two- but for that hour, i'd be totally sloshed. i never puked or had any sort of hang over. within a day i'd get drunk twice usually (get drunk, sober up, get drunk again a few hours later) and end up drinking about 4 beers within a day. i didn't drink any hard liquor whatsoever and never drank more than 2 at a time, so i have no idea how large amounts of alcohol would have effected me.
if you faint from a few beers and suboxone theres def something wrong with you
I know it's probably really hard to give up alcohol alongside other drugs but I know that it helps you out a lot to concentrate on one issue at a time, and if you give up drinking then you make getting off suboxone easier, which a lot of people like to do. Keep sharing your stories--I enjoy them very much. Thanks!
I've been on suboxone for over a year, and I drink every night. I still get a buzz, my family says I get drunk, but I get up without a hangover just about every day and work every day. I am still an alcoholic, but I basically got on soboxone for addiction to pain pills. I'm just an addict all around.
This makes me sad because it sounds to me like you're sort of resigned to it. What do you think you'll do? Are you going to quit at any point?
i've been on suboxone for 2 years. i do drink occasionally the only effects i get is it makes me really tired. So i usually end up going home because i'm not having fun. i take 2-4 mgs a day.....I was wondering if it effects anyone else that way?

I quit dope by taking a week vacation. the first day i took a half of the orange sub. That week i took subd when i felt opiate withdrawals, about every twelve hours. I tapered town to quarters of a pill. All the while I was drinking like a fish, taking mad valiums, xanax, etc. It was NEVER a problem. oh well i guess each has their own experience.
