I went from taking 20mg a day to take 4mg a day and was fine (after a year of use). Less is always better. I still get the minor buzz with the 4mg just like I did with the 20mg.
Im on 8mg a day i divide the dose because the subs seem to give me a minor energy boost. I drink every night quite heavily and have no problems.
Hi... I'm new to this site and was just about to ask a question myself when I ran across this post. I'll tell more about myself and my story when I ask my question but, to answer yours, I've been on suboxone for close to six years now. I'm not a heavy drinker but, over the past six years, I have definitely had a few nights when I drank more than I should have. You can drink and get drunk while on suboxone... from what I know and through experience, it doesn't block the alcohol receptors... only the opiate receptors. What I have heard though is that the alcohol will weaken the strength of the suboxone so, what you may be feeling is withdrawls because you're not getting the full affect of the suboxone. I started off taking 24mg of sub a day and am now down to 3mg a day and am continuing to slowly decrease. I say slowly decrease because it's very important to allow your body to adjust to it... I wish that I would have started decreasing 5 years ago! I drink wine a few nights out of the week with no adverse reactions. Everyone is different though and if you have a drink and don't feel good than I would suggest not drinking while you're on the suboxone. By the way, 6 years is way too long to be on sub... I suggest weaning yourself off of it as soon as you feel good about yourself and you don't feel the desire to go back to using the drug of your choice... whatever it was. Stay strong... suboxone has helped many people. Try to wean yourself off of it as soon as you can though. It is highly addictive! Since I've been taking it, I've had a few instances where there was miscommunication between the doctor and the pharmacy (of course this always happens on a friday when the doctor will be out of the office for the weekend), and the withdrawls that I went through were 10x worse than a vicodine withdrawl. Fortunately, I have an understanding phamacist who when realized what I was going through fronted me a couple of pills until the weekend was over. Quite often, the phamacist understands more about the drugs than the doctors do... I would ask your pharmacist the question about the alcohol as well. Good luck!... and don't forget, stay strong!!! Peace & light.
