I ended up buying bib overalls to not have the clothing rub on my repaired area.
What ended up happening?
Thank you, it does.
Yes it does, I had an umbilical hernia operated on under local about 10 days ago and it’s still swollen and tender, had blood drained 2x - 20ml and 30ml 3 days apart. Hoping it all heals flat as I’m not liking the puffy bulge there at present still
I had hernia repair done on both sides over a year ago. One side stays swelled most of the time. The other has shooting pains And numbness
Same problem as most of you (thin female with large femoral hernia). I am 7 days post op and like all of you, the incision site looks as big and thick as the original problem and I feel discigured. But after reading your post, I feel so much better and feel confident it will subside. Thank you so much for sharing—I feel so much betted.
Hi, I am 14 days post inguinal hernia repair. I had open surgery and a mesh fitted. The pain has now completely gone away, I have a very clean incision (that has already healed very nicely), no blood and no discharge at any stage. However I do have a large ball of swelling larger than my original hernia.
My surgeon says it is fine and normal. I also went to the gp who advised the same thing but that the swelling could in fact be a seroma, but to wait another 2 weeks before returning. In the event a seroma has formed, they will assess whether drainage is required or whether they predict the body will absorb it in several months.
I am concerned as the swelling is about the size of a tangerine and I can feel it when I walk, sit down etc. I am also concerned because it looks awful and is surely going to prevent my return to leisure activities.
I recommend using ice as much as you can as it reduces the swelling. For a second opinion I recommend using the babylon NHS app, it is cheap and in some cases you can book a webcam appointment with a doctor on the same day. If the doctor on the webcam is concerned, they will refer you more quickly than sitting and waiting at a hosptial.
I read a few articles advising the danger of seromas calcifying but according to my surgeon it is unlikely that would happen in the short term, insread it would take quite a few months. I will try to report back in 2 weeks with an update.

Same with me..what advice did you receive??
It was nice to hear that a doctor was praying for guidance a lot of doctors are overconfident and push you in and out like an assembly line you are blessed to have such a great doctor
Thanks! Great information.

Just had this repair too . Suffering badly . Spegelian hernia
I too had the repair of the spegelian hernia . Almost 3 weeks post op . Still painful and swollen . I'm wishing I had not had it done but my hernia was huge :( . I think I have another one the other Side now . Recovery is harder than I imagined
I'm also post surgery spegelian hernia . Recovery is harder than I assumed . My hernia was huge or I probably wouldn't have had the surgery that I waited a year for . I'm getting burning and sharp stabbing pains . I know it's early days but it concerns me :(
