I've been experiencing abdominal numbness and discomfort (dysesthesia) since about the age of 14 I'm now 26 it's hard to say if the condition has gotten progressively worse it's always caused me discomfort and some pain. After returning from traveling i thought i give it another go mentioning it to my GP (doctor). At the time my GP tried to downplay the condition not knowing what it could be. Later that evening after my GP had spoke it over with a colleague i was booked in for an mri scan. After my first scan i was invited for a second scan ,within a week, this time with the addition of a dye. It didn't take long for the radiologist to suggest a syrinx (cyst) was present in my spine. It was then confirmed by my GP in addition it was also suggested i had a chiari malformation. Im currently awaiting an appointment with a neuroligist and neurosurgeon.

I wouldn't suggest to much self diagnosis but to read up on the symptoms of chiari malformation and syringomyelia (syrinx) as its such a rare condition (8.9 in 100,000) your GP may not have come across this before so it might be worth suggesting the above mentioned conditions and asking for an mri which is considered the gold standard in diagnosis. It is not considered a life-threatening condition in most cases but it is believed it will worsen with time as the syrinx spreads.

I ocassionally get the numbness in lower left rib cage (around stomach). Trigger is always when im in a sitting position (usually bus or chair in university), it starts to goes numb and after that if i stay in sitting position, numbness transfers to both of my cheeks and i can also fell tingling in tips of my right hand.
After getting up and walking for about 5-10 min, numbness goes away. This always helps, but leaves me scared.
Been to doctor but still no idea what's wrong.

This is also what my Dr. told me. They describe it as the same when your foot falls asleep.

I recently have the same feeling of numbness in my lower left rib cage, it is not painful, however what really alarm me is that the attack is associated with tingling sensation. I believe it is not normal , could be a sign of something more serious if not detected by our modern doctors.

I hope someone could read this as some of us are having the same sign, however we simply neglect it since it just fade after the attack.

I have it to and have had for years ...when I start eating clean (cut out breads and sugar and high fats) within two weeks it gets MUCH better. When I drop 30-40 lbs which drastically minimizes my midsection the symptoms disappear. Put weight back on and return to old eating habits and the tingling, numb uncomfortable feeling returns. Every time! Dont know what it is but its definitely related to poor diet and abundance of body fat in mid section

This is exactly what is going on with me. Weird. I had my Gallbladder taken out in 2001. I was trying to connect it with that.
