That is absolutely awesome Gibson! I'm so happy for you! I hope your over the flu by now!

Done, I'm sorry hon, everything happens for a reason. I hope you feel better soon. You're strong will, will get you through this. We're only human. Yes, we all feel the need & will get clean...but ultimately, try not to beat yourself up for things.,.especially circumstances out  of  your control, but even in your control. You'll end up where you want to be. The only question s when. In the meantime, yes, we view it as a major downfall of ourselves personally, but in the grand scheme of life, taking a pill to get by is faaar from being whatever you view yourself as in negative times. Get well soon! You, me & anyone reading this can do it. IT only matters where you go from here.

I'm cutting down on my Vic's and starting to feel better I'm going to do the Imodium tomorrow. I know it works I don't know why I'm nervous.

Gibson I know your finished but I do hope you still post occasionally that your still clean.

Jojo quitting is difficult but staying clean is the biggest challenge. You said cause of your job they're easy to get and thatmust make it almost impossible for you. I know with myself I've cut ties with anyone selling so that I can't go back even if I wanted to. Maybe a 12 step program is what's right for you. Either way you need to figure out how to stay clean cause having them at your finger tips is not good. Good luck.

Erin thanks for your words of incouragement. How is your recovery doing? You should really throw out the suboxone.

I am still around - I get post notifications and stay up on everyone. YES = still clean and going to be. I have had a couple of moments where an 'urge' came on, but took a walk and brushed it off. Less and less as the days go on. I tell ya, I honestly did not think I would ever be clean, just so much stuff going on. I prayed and prayed and did everything I could to get away from the painkillers. Sub/Kratom etc. The immodium was my ONLY way it out. I think being on sub for 14 days (to take away the physical part of actually taking pills) THEN getting back on pills for a week at low doses and switching over to Immodium was the trick for me. I am SUPER grateful I found a plan that freggin worked!!!! Finally, after all the battles (mentally) it was my way out.

My sister even offered me a couple Norcos on Christmas day because my dang ankle was sore due to the cold weather and said == No way.. done with that stuff. She seemed kind of shocked I would turn it down.

Unless I broke an arm etc.. Never again will be on pain meds..

It's just a cycle... over and over. Script after Script.. Tolerance builds and now in a bind for more. I lived that life for quite a while, years actually, and can't go back.

My family depends on me. I couldn't risk: spend money on pills OR take care of my family. It really almost got to that point, that's when I started coming on here and searching for an answer.

I am happy, very happy that I am clean from it, but I know it will be battle I will face for awhile and I will FOR SURE when it every time, no question about it.

I know it was coming and so glad I found out about the immodium trick. It was not a walk in the park, but it's something that can be accomplished.

Can you use tramadol and flexaral to get off subs?

Reply

Tramadol did help me a little for sleep but during the day ittook the edge off and that was about it. Tramadol is an opiate and takes ten days to get off of with seizures and brain shocks so be careful. I don't have any experience with the other stuff so I can't help you there good luck.

Be careful even when recovering from injuries. I had to get my wisdom teeth out and made the decision not to chance it with pain pills. It was tough but I'm not sure I have the strength yet to take the risk. Congratulations on staying clean. Have you told your sister that you're clean and that she should never even consider offering your norcos/pain meds? Cut connections - family is tough but draw a line in the sand and tell them not to cross it.

Hello Again,

I could really use some helpful info and encouraging words to get off Suboxone.  Today was my first day without and I have been on .25 of a 1mg.  I am feeling the restless leg thing and malaise plus anxiety.  I would really appreciate ways to get off suboxone with the least side effects.  I am bi-polar as well so I take lithium, trazadone, klonipin also have some tramadol and flexural. So again I would really appreciate all your opinions on the best way to get off this drug that has made me a slave to it.

Thank you all sooooo much

I think if you wait every 3 days to dose the sub due to the long 1/2 life and keep cutting down the doses every 3 days, it should work. In the interim, I would take Imodium 5-8 tabs (all at once) up to 3 times a day. That's how I did it.

PLEASE NOTE: Not a doctor and lithium scares me, especially being on sub at the same time. Also klonopin. Both have 'Black Box' warnings (skull and cross bones danger) taking them together. The Imodium binds to your opiate receptors in your BODY... VS the sub binding to your opiate receptors in your BRAIN === Big difference. The Imodium does not cross the blood/brain barrier like sub does.

Trazadone is good for sleep which I bet you take that for - while on sub.

Don't take the tramadol, make you sick.

Flexirel will help with the restless legs for sure. If you can talk to your doc, ask for requip. It will take away the restless legs.

Hope this helps but you gotta be careful mixing lithium, klonopin and sub together. That will depress your breathing so much.

Imodium (lopermide) - get the tablet form. You can get the generic, 72 tabs for $5 at walmart or something similar.

Thank you sooooooo much for your help Gibson.  i truly grateful I really hope you stay online for the next few weeks because I am scared to death to do this but i must if I ever am going to have a life.  I just want to you to know as well I got into this due to chronic pain issues fibromyelgia, Trigeminal Neurelgia, Interstitial Cycstitus and Ostio Arthuritis.  So I have been in a living hell for years and when I read about Suboxone it seemed the right route to go for pain management.  I have just had enough and want to be off all my meds. Be Normal what ever that is.

Well God Bless you and again please stay with me for the next few weeks

Many Thanks

Your mind / body has to be up to it. It was a battle for me BIG TIME, but I had to do it for me and my family. That's what is keeping me clean, plain and simple. You have to want to be clean. But with my recommendation though, I would still talk with your doc about the other meds you are on though, lithium is some serious stuff. I have never been on it, but I know folks who have.

Patient- although this is a thread on quitting sub w/ other opiates w shorter half lives, another option is always just tapering sub over a long time. Most people on sub long term have the most minimal WDs  possible that way. A lot of them feel only laziness when jumping. BUT then your obviously on sub longer which is a drawback depending. Especially since you are required other medications normally that sub is fine with. That depends how long you've been on sub though! The main reason I say this is b/c using opiates to come off large amounts of sub would speed up the time over doing a sub taper, you know like if someones on 8 mg + per day. Have you been using it for over 3 mos? Since you're already down to .25 mg, you just do an 8th daily for two wks+ or to when you feel adjusted to it, then 1/16 for same amount of time, 1/24th, then skip a day get used to that, skip two days, then 3 days, then stop. I've heard taking time tapering is best. Then you could use Imodium once you stopped if your doc okay'd. Idk if you get drug tested to stay on sub or if you could even get other opiates or if that would be right for you anyway. Only you know that. Just offering another  potential option for you to think about. You could taper then still do opiates but ultimately you'd think staying away from opiates all together may be best in general for anyone trying to kick opiates/sub/methadone, whatever . Some people like me who have been on sub for a very long time are better off using opiates depending on their sense of urgency & how much they're taking...or just long term sub tapering. Idk what your goals are. Some people just want the sub outta their system ASAP. Sorry you prob said how long you used or what, etc. but I only read the latest post.

As for me, like I said, after my OPs were gone, I stooped to sub. This time I took the most minimal possible. I do want to quit but also unsure if I'm totally ready BUT at a BARE minimum, I'm on the least amount of sub possible & breaking up my sub use with OPs for two wks. Maybe next time I get em, I'll do the bare minimum OP, or maybe since Ive been on sub so long and do sooo little, Ishld stop wasting my $ on OPs even w a great deal & just taper. Or maybe a little of both. I still am unsure lol!

Gibson- stay posting please! Your success makes me soooo happy! Hell, we barely know each other , but it's great to have you posting and I'm sure you've helped many people.

How are you ms done? I hope you're feeling better!

Hi there, patient! How long had you done sub before you stopped? Were you always @ .25 mg day or had you already tapered? I'm so happy for you are sticking with stopping the sub! Let me know how youre feeling. Wishing you the best! The reason I ask, I'm curious to get info on symptoms/severity in general but especially a long term sub user b/c that's what scares me the most...long never ending WDs from the shitty subs.

Me, I just have bn doing barely any sub and had never done super high amounts....5 mg usually... Sometimes 1 mg day... but not fed up enough I guess. Everyone's posts have been very encouraging. I'm scared of the long term sub WD effects for me. Who knows though, maybe I wldnt get em to begin with.

Gibson, you have been super inspiring for me! Please keep me posted on how well you're doing.

Happy New Year all

Hello Erin,

I feel very tired today and last night had restless leg which is the worst part of WD'S.  I took a requip and that helped but i ordered Kratom online that should be here tomorrow and I have Imoduim which I have not tried yet.  I understand Magnesium is good so I will purchase extra Imoduim, Kratom ontop of Magnesium.  I have to wait until tomorrow because that is the day I get paid.

So far it is bearable and once I get through I will give you detailed instructions on getting off with very little WD.

Also I have been on Sub for 3 years but I never took more than 4mg so it was pretty easy to taper for me.

I would really appreciate your prayers even though My name isn't Patient but if you pray for me I am sure he will know who you are talking about.

Thank you Erin, I will post my progress everyday and maybe at night

Stay in touch my friend

Quick update:

That thing we all call PAWS, well it hit me quite hard today. PAWS is like a minor w/d type feeling, kinda hard to explain. Some craving as well.

I had to take some Imodium to overcome that feeling. I hope you all are doing well.

Still clean and putting up a good fight!!
