i have the same thing although i havent payed any attention to the soap, its an alergie by the way

Hello,

Id like to drop my two cents in. Every hear I get a seasonal cough as the snow melts. This year was worse then most so I went into the Dr. He gave me antibiotics and sent me on my way. I took them until I noticed that my hands were swelling and becoming extremely itchy and red.  My pharmacist advised me that it was most likely an allergic reaction to something in the antibiotics (ive never been allergic to anything prior to this).

About a week after that i noticed dry patches on my thumbs that eventually lead to pealed skin.  Since then both hands have been overtaken with whatever this is.  It peals daily and never ends.  I tried to just peal everything right off, but the next layer did the same thing; I haven't changed my diet or my environment. Cortisone cream doesn't help and it gets worse each day.

I hope someone can post something that gives some relief to everyone sharing this problem

Hello!

Well, seems like there are a lot of us, people with painless, peeling fingers and palms. I'm 30 years old, and I used to have healthy skin on my hands that wouldn't be affected by anything. I don't have any allergies, rarely get sick, I'm not stressed out and overall my physical and mental health is great. I do a lot of recreational sports, including biking and swimming, and I'm sure that's not the cause of this condition - if it was related, I would have gotten it a long time ago.

My fingertips started to peel a week ago. For no reason. None whatsoever. I wasn't exposed to any unusual chemicals, didn't get sick, didn't touch any weird things and hadn't been to a pool in three weeks. No diet changes. Nothing. Out of the blue - excessive peeling that is now spreading onto my palms. Doesn't hurt, but looks really ugly and keeps getting worse. Nothing helps. I've been using St. Ives collagen elastin that kind of seems to make my hands look somewhat normal for a short while. As long as I get my hands wet, the cycle starts all over. Water seems to wreak havoc on my hands - every time I get them wet, there are new patches of peeling skin all over. It's on all of my fingers now, and going down to my palms. Joy.

The only thing I can remotely link this to is my move from California to Texas two months ago. I've never lived in such a humid climate before, and humidity really kicked in last week with warmer temperatures, and I'm finding it pretty hard to bear. That's like the only major change in my life. But a lot of people live in this climate just fine and don't have skin coming off, so I'm hoping I can figure this thing out and get rid of it. The other thing is that I'm vegetarian and may have vitamin B deficiency. I don't normally take any vitamins or supplements. I started multivitamins three days ago, let's see if that does anything to clear this c**p out.

I'm waiting for my medical at my new job to kick in, and once it does, I am going to the best dermatologist in town. Until he/she figures the cause of this and gives me treatment that works, I'm not getting off their case. It's debilitating for somebody who never had any health issues except sports injuries.

I am 30 year old from india. Since my childhood I am facing the problem of fingertips skin peeling off, during childhood it was very severe as there is blood due to skin under nail starts peeling. As I grow up it seems to be diluted but continue. It happens two times in year when summer approaches and winter approaches. My parents used to give me multivitamins, which helped to control the peeling but could not prevented it completely. In year i visited one ayurvedic doctor, he inquired about the all the sympothems. As one major sympthom is the chnage in mouth taste and very salty skin of hands, Doctor suggested that it is not skin releated problem but it is related with digestion, which adepts to changing climate. He said this could be due to high acidity. he prescribed me the Ayurvedic medicine for acidity and it worked fine. I am taking it for the last 3 years. But now it seems not giving very useful results. Any one with similar experience please share.

Ok, so I am as healthy as can be... have never had one issue with anything and yep, it's like I have super glue on my pinkys.  Started 4 days ago, live in Michigan and this is also when it warmed up from raining every day to sunny.  Being a problem solver by choice, can we come together and maybe see what we all have in common?  Like if we all put down what we're eating or using as supplements... at the end of the day it would have to help better than nothing.  Does anybody out there want to try this to see if we are all eating a certain something, or taking the same vitamin or supplement, a certain drink..??? anybody...??

Sorry, I have not found a cure, yet, but I thought I'd add my experience with this condition to the thread. I am 64 and have been dealing with this condition for about 10 or 12 years. It started out as tiny blisters on the fingers, usually the middle finger on either hand. Then the skin on the pads of the fingers would die, get hard, and then peel off. Usually it took about two weeks for the process to complete. Over the years the condition has gotten progressively worse, more and more fingers affected, symptoms lasting longer, etc. It always starts in the Spring when the weather warms up, and goes away in the Fall when the temperatures go down. When I first developed this condition I lived on the California coast, where it's foggy and humid. Now, I live in the California High Desert where it's dry. Still, the condition and cyclic process is the same. The only thing common about where I've lived is that it comes back every Spring. I am pretty healthy for a 64 year old male, no heart issues, no high blood pressure, no prostate issues, no other skin issues except that I have to use an Athlete's Foot ointment between my toes daily or I will develop Athlete's Foot. All I can say for sure is that it seem to be a seasonal thing that comes back when the temps go up in the Springtime, and goes away in the Fall when the temps go down.

I have tried all kinds of creams and ointments on my fingers. Nothing has cured it. I have tried Hydrocortisone 1% PLUS from Costco, it feels good on my fingers and does a good job of minimizing the dry, dead skin look. But it doesn't stop it. I have tried straight Vaseline, that also helps with the dead skin, but still doesn't stop the peeling process. Tried CARMEX ointment for cold sores, same thing. Tried Vaseline Lip Therapy, same thing. It actually does a very good job of keeping the dead skin at bay, but it still doesn't cure the condition. Just today I began trying "Gold Bond Ultimate Hand Sanitizer Moisturizer". That stuff feels very good on my fingers. Made my fingers look and feel almost normal. I'm going to keep using it for a week or two to see if it helps stop the peeling. Sorry I don't have anything better to add. I have subscribed to this thread, and bookmarked this page. If I do find out anything more I will return and share it.

Good luck to all,

Jerry

Well, I don't know if this is related, but I did make two changes in my life recently and now my fingers are returning to normal. Number 1: I was addicted to nasal decongestant spray, and I kicked it. I was using the generic kind that has oxymetazoline hydrochloride 0.05% in it. Number 2: I started using "Gold Bond Ultimate Healing Skin Therapy Cream" on my fingers. I stopped using the nasal spray and started using the Gold Bond cream about the same time. And, I am happy to report that my fingers are almost normal, as of today! I don't know if these actions are related to my finger condition, but all I know is that since I kicked the nasal spray and started using the Gold Bond cream my fingers started returning to normal. If, in a couple of weeks the peeling cycle starts all over again, and all of this was false, I'll report back.

Cheers,

Jerry

I have the exact same problem as you except mine stats in the first few days of June. I call this my annual molt. The condition is annoying and sometimes down right painful, but it is self limiting (3-4 weeks). I'm glad to hear I'm not alone. I'm about halfway through my molt for the year and I am looking forward to having my fingertips back. Thanks again for your post.

I too suffer from the very same problem. I am an author and thought perhaps it might be from all of the typing I do every day. I use a fine emery board to gently file off the dead skin. Don't sand too hard or you will get down into the meat on your fingers. I am using Corn Huskers Lotion, and it does help some. If you find a cause or a cure would greatly appreciate your posting it.

Hi I'm a 33 yr old single mum and a beauty therapist ! I have very sore fingers the skin keeps decaying falling off or peeling off going a horrible yellow colour nf same if in water absorbs like no tomorrow ! My hands have always been very hot even before this but not sweaty ! I also get new skin which looks good but then tears right on the pads of my fingers . This all happened after I had a bad virus and started working in a salon ! People are trying to tell me that it's contact dermatitis which I really don't feel it is although nail products do exacerbate it . Recently went away on my own for a few days fingers heeled but as soon as I returned home split ( literally as I entered my home town ) goes everyone have a lot of stress in their lives as this could also be a way of your body dealing with it ! I've had lots of bloods taken but nothing showing as untoward and am waiting For a dermatologist appointment . Antibiotics do help but not good for my liver !!! Spirulina ( ingested ) is meant to be good for skin and also apple cider vinegar ( topically applied )

Hi, I have the same problem.
Mine is a reaction to sunshine, if I am exposed to sun for about 3 days my hands start to swell & go red & then I get pain in them, they also get sensitive to picking hot things up.
then about 3 days later it starts ...... the skin on the end of my fingers become thickened & I can not feel things as well as usual (because of course this skin is now dead). then they start to peel from behind the nail & I can peel the thick dead skin, leaving the fragile skin underneath sore & sometimes it bleeds ..no matter what or how much cream I put on them this does not stop the peeling , it is though this process has to run its course. How I explain it is , it is though the normal skin shedding process has been excelorated and the skin underneath is not ready to be exposed. it reminds me of a snake shedding its skin.
I will try the fish oil.

Its a hormonal problem. Estrogen level or thyroid.

Quite possibly scleroderma. Do a google search on the condition, and add the word "fingertips". Then look at the images, and see if they look like your hands.

I have had this condition for over 10 years. Sometimes it is worse than others. It was on just my right thumb for many years now "(seemed contained) but now seems to be progressing to other fingers on my hand. The only time it really cleared up was when I had chemo treatments for breast cancer. When ever I have asked doctors about it they just say use cortizone. Surely someone out there specializes in this area. It seems a number of people are afflicted and have posted similar symptoms. No one has any answers yet???

Try vitamin e capsules. Pierce the capsules with a needle and apply the oily contents directly to affected skin then cover with a dressing and hold in place with the white papery type of sticking plaster that does not tear the skin. This worked well for my husband when nothing else did.
