I had my tonsils out at the end of April this year and I still have my adenoids. However, I have been feeling like I have something stuck in my throat and am not sure what it is. I saw my surgeon a month post-op and he said he could put a tube in my nose to see if there was something causing this. It's more bothersome, and sometimes it can be painful. I've noticed I still don't sleep very well (I was told my sleep would improve), and do drink a lot more water, juice, gatorade has been very helpful with the fact that my mouth dries out more quickly than it used to. Any and all suggestions/help is greatly appreciated. :) Thank you!
I'm 44 years old and I got my tonsils out 4 days ago. I have had zero pain! The only thing I can complain of is a scratchy throat but other than that I am perfectly fine. This was the best experience I've had out of any of my surgeries!
I am 7 weeks post-op and my palate/uvula is still low making me gag now and then. I am very concerned about this and I really hope this will rise/shrink and go back to feel/look normal again...No one told me about this pre-op and I am getting really depressed about it. I am scared it will stay like this...I am in my mid 20s, and reading about some of you having this even after 1 year makes me really worried and anxious. I lost a lot of weight worrying about this...pls...did this go away for you guys, it's ANNOYING!!
Hi!
I just got my tonsils out on Wednesday & still can not eat or drink anything. Is that normal? When were you able to eat and drink again?

I too am experiencing the scar tissue forming after it's been gone during the day. It's day 12 and I'm eating pasta and soft vegetables, even some crackers. Idk if I'm doing too much or not my doctor didn't schedule another visit after I was seen only 3 days after surgery. Do you think it's possible my uvula will stay enlarged as well? It's huge and when I sleep on my back I can't breathe. Day 12 should feel better than this right?!
Hi! You are the only person in the internet I have found to have had the exact problem I am going through right now!! That sensation in the back of my throat has been with me for weeks and it is really affecting my life. It makes me physical sick regularly and is so distracting in everything I do. I've been to the doctors 5 times and heard lots of different nonsense theories. I finally got a referral back to the ENT doc at the hospital who shoved a camera down my throat through my nose (worst experience of my life!!!) he said it's just scar tissue and it'll go in time but like you it feels like it will never go away. I know you said you're better now but can you remember how long it took?? I neeeeeed this information!! Thank you so much, aimee
I had mine out august 2015 n to this day almost 4 months later im still gagging everyday! So stressful, feeling hopeless, hoping this scar tissue go away soon
Oh my gosh i feel like im dying. Days 1-3 were fine.. massive bleed day three and had to back to hospital to have it caterised in the ER. Ever since then massive pain. Stopped pain meds 3 days ago. Still have scabs on the left but can not taste Anything! How long before i can taste its so depressing?
I had my tonsils and uvula out about two months ago and that feeling of something stuck is your throat is not going away. So I went to another ent doctor today and he is saying that it might be caused by GERD acid reflux I dont understand cos i had no issues before. so i am gonna double up on these antacids to see how it turn out.
Did you ever recover from the throat tightness and lump feeling in your throat? Please update me. Thanks.
Hi, I'm 34 and want to add that I am now into my 7th week post op and I too have the same issue with my palate/uvula. It is really affecting how I speak also. In actual fact, I avoid getting into conversations with anyone so as not to sound silly when I talk :( I have a follow up at the ENT tomorrow, having already spoke with the Surgeon who removed my tonsils. He has said that the feeling of something at the back of your throat is completely normal and encouraged me to continue to drink lots of water as it strengthens the muscle at the back of the throat.
I will write an update following my appointment tomorrow. Don't worry, you really aren't the only one going through this. It will get better. In actual fact, I do remember my small cousin having his tonsils removed at a very young age and his voice was altered for a long time following the surgery too.

Well, its been 3 weeks today and I must say it has not improved at all after taking prilosec twice a day. Its been exactly 3 months today since my surgery it's really irritating, I have a feeling of lump in the throat is never gonna go away.
thanks i have white stringy mucus that stays there really uncomfortable... 5 weeks in
hi all! i'm 35/m currently on my 3rd week post op. i too have that weird feeling in the back of my throat. i also still have trouble swallowing ANY sort of food. the food seems to just sit at the back of my throat no matter how hard i swallow. i would need to wash each bite down with water. very frustrating. my doc however says that this is normal and that it would take another 1-3 months to "relearn to swallow". it would take around the same amount of time for the scabs to completely disappear. so all in all, we should expect "normalcy" at around months 3-4 post op.
one thing that helps me a lot (aside from hydrating, meds, etc) is gargling with a cold saline/salt solution. really helps clear out the mucus/food/dairy that would normally get stuck on the scabs. also helps slough off the scabs. i do it twice daily. nice to know that it is clean back there. hope this helps!

Hi there, glad I came across this topic. If anyone could help me/share experiences, I would truly appreciate it.
I am in real discomfort, as I have the feeling of a hair or obstruction on the back of my mouth, close to, or on my right tonsil.
I think it is related to post-nasal drip, although even when I am not feeling a wish to cough up phlegm, there is still the feeling of a foreign object in the back of my mouth.
I just feel like I want to go into the back of my mouth, and rip it out.
A consultant previously told me I will always have this problem due to the fact I have a deviated septum, and my tonsils and the stuff around it are large, quite thick and 'crowded'. My regular doctor said he could see phlegm resting on my tonsils.
But the problem is intermittent. I had the nasty feeling of a hair in my throat for around six weeks in August-September 2014, followed by ten months of it between January and October 2015. After a winter break, it came back early last month, and has remained.
I really hope this isn't going to be a regular thing.... I know it is only a minor problem to many people, but it is making me feel quite low, tired and unable to function normally.
I am trying acupuncture right now in the hope it will make a difference, the first time I have ventured away from conventional medicines. But my confidence in this is only limited. There are so many possible solutions, I cannot physically try all of them.
For the record, I have tried antibiotics, antihistamine, decongestant nasal spray and penicillin to no avail. I also use Difflam mouthwash to numb the feeling of the hair. I have had an endoscopy, and MRI treatment, but nothing has been found of any abnormality.
If anyone can help me out, or has had a similar experience, i'd love to hear from you.
Nick
