I am in day 2 of the lysine therapy and I feel much better than I have in 5 days. Now maybe it's the natural course of things, time will tell, but I think the lysine is helping. Thank you suffernomore for that. I also plan to do a vitamin c therapy on my next day off. I did it in 1992 to cure myself of chronic strep throat (I got it 2-3 times a year for 30+ years) and I have not had strep since, so I know it works to kill viruses. And I think I found the answer to MY symptoms: it's my thyroid. I checked my symptoms against thyroid symptoms and they matched-every single one of them. I had a problem ONCE with my thyroid when I was in my 20's (1970-something); went to an endocrinologist and was diagnosed with a VIRAL infection of my thyroid. This feels like exactly the same thing! Except, in my 20's, this c**p didn't put me in bed for 4 days! Damn, getting old sucks! I will update you later and let you know what's been working for me. And if anyone out there has tried any other natural remedies that worked for you, let me (us) know.
so the balance therapist isn't helping. I've seen him a couple more times now. He's given me some "exercises" to do at home... I want a cure... not to cope.
I have a few more weird symptoms (that actually line up as markers for MS... yikes... I hope I'm freaking for nothing)
- I get "slurred" speech - it's more like I got a sh*t ton of spit in my mouth. The slurred speech happens once in a while.
- I've been smelling a strong weird scent- i can't explain it very effectivley- but if I had to describe it.. alkalai?ammonia?
- while doing some tests for the unbalance thing, I discovered that my legs are also very unsteady.... i'm talking VERY unsteady. Shakey unsteady.
- I've been noticing a degradation in my coordination
I'm still waiting for the results of an ultrasound I did on my neck/ throat. I hope its all good.
Next thing I'm trying is a metal poisoning test. I'll let you guys know what I find out.... it'll probably take about a month or so to get results. In the meantime... keep us updated on any progress.
betterhalf... GOOD LUCK!!! I hope it works for you. let us know. If it works for you... I'll try it.
This c**p is hard... really really hard. When I think of what I was... and think about what I am.. OMG... i can't believe how feeble I am now. We need to get rid of this c**p.
Keep pushing. After numerous visits to numerous doctors, I finally found one who agrees with me to find the problem and fix it, not mask the symptoms. You have to be your own advocate. Do not give up.

Lysine helped me a lot as well. This may be partially because it fights anxiety, and I was/am very anxious about my condition. I suspect it was a combination of real (hiatal hernia and sinus/inner ear issues) and psychosomatic issues. Anxiety can worsen dizziness and lightheadedness. Moreover, lysine is an essential amino acid (your body needs it), so it is definitely worth trying.
Lysine didn't completely alleviate my symptoms, though. Since then, I've tried two other supplements that have helped tremendously. I take melatonin 30 minutes before bed, and I take 700-1000 mg of rhodiola rosea in the morning, and then another 350 mg in the afternoon. This supplement is frequently used in Russian medicine for treating depression, fatigue, and burnout. I've also cut caffeine from my diet (do this slowly). I haven't figured out which of these things is primarily responsible for my improved condition, but I may try to figure this out. Prior to taking these things, I was taking a multivitamin and fish oil.
I still feel lightheaded and a little dizzy, but my nausea and fatigue have largely been obliterated (I still have some minor nausea after meals). The constant nausea I had previously was debilitating. This past week is the best week I've had in a year (symptom-wise). You don't have much to lose by trying these things, since the side effects are minimal.
You say you are nauseated after meals. Have you been tested for food intolerances? Maybe for celiac disease/gluten intolerance? I am guessing the Rhodiola and the reduction in caffeine are both helping with your anxiety, as is the melatonin. Just my humble guess :-) I have had major anxiety and panic attacks for 35+ years, so I feel your pain when it comes to because anxious about your condition. It becomes a vicious circle. Keep pushing on. Karen
***NOT A POST ABOUT A CURE.
hey guys, thanks so much for the encouragement to stay positive.
YOU all know what i'm going through. I just had a bad day.... reading about MS. I'm okay.
My buddies wife passed, from a battle with cancer... I have unbelievable perspective after her story. Believe me... I can handle a little wobble if I have to. I just beleive that there is a reason for this.... we just need to find it.
I have an appointment to see my doctor on thursday to make me stop worrying about MS. I'm sure he'll tell me it's not MS... and the MRI's would've caught it if it were.
I love the internet and all the sense of empowerment one feels being proactive with their condition.... but manoman... not knowing how to filter information can cause a whole lot of panic.
betterhalf...I'll definitely try the lysine theapy you are doing.... right after I give this metal toxicity a go.... and I see my doctor about MS this thursday. Thank you so much for your concern and suggestion. I'm so stoked to hear you are doing better. I really hope you get better.
This thread is becoming a thread about THE HUNT FOR A CURE, and not just about listing symptom's.... I am a HUGE fan of the change of direction that this thread has taken. Keep going everyone. Keep posting your results.
Thanks again for the kind words folk's.
I am also considering the Lysine therapy as I do have history of canker sores, though not recently.
Please let us know how your doctor appt. goes.

hey folks...
apparently I don't have MS. Happy wth that news. Unsteadiness is feeling really horrible. NEXT up for me.... the metal toxicity test... my doctor smirked a little when i asked him about this metal test... I guess it must seem amusing to see me self diagnosing... I lost a little faith in my medical team, when my ENT said,"I don't know". Followed up by my doctor who asked me" how do you think we should proceed?"
My naturopath doctor and balance therapist... have been helpful and supportive.
My naturopath is helping me set up the metal toxicity test... the balance therapist is performing Epley's like manoeuvres on me... he hasn't really helped my condition, but his enthusiasm is comforting.
betterhalf... how's the lysine therapy???
Glad to hear MS is ruled out.
I tried the Lysine therapy - did nothing but give me stomach issues.
I am still waiting patiently for my GI test results and my Adrenal Fatigue test results. I will post when they come in. The waiting is the hardest part. I started getting tests a month ago. It has taken this long to get approval, submit the samples and get results.

. My chiropractor said to wait on the heavy metals test. I am scheduling a Food Intolerance blood test for next week. Checking 250 foods, an array of chemicals and a list of herbs.

just need to feel balanced and my life is great. Metal Toxicity here I come!
Another person i know did the acupuncture... and her condition is gone. I also have a friend who'e father had a heart abnormality... and did an operation... and is now dizzy free. Just tells me it could be anything. I guess we just need to find out what is up with each of us.
We'll beat this folks.
Hi, all. Betterhalf here....Ok, I tried almost EVERYTHING that was suggested on this topic:Doctors, tests, Lysine therapy, Vitamin C therapy and Acupuncture. They all seemed to help a little or for a few days EXCEPT the Acupuncture. Acupuncture has helped so much! I've been getting acupuncture once a week for sciatica and a bad hip (7 sessions and I'm 99% better); last week when I went to see him I was feeling so lousy and had a raging sinus infection. We (he and I) think this is the root of ALL my problems: An ear abcess that I'd had for a decade, ruptured last year spread to my sinuses and even tho I took LOTS of anti-biotics for it, I've had a low-grade sinus infection since then. He treated me for it with the needles and gave me some good old fashioned Chinese herbs and I feel better than I have in MONTHS!! I can still feel some sinus issues lingering and I still have some minor dizziness, so I will continue to get acupuncture and take whatever he gives me... for as long as it takes! This is the first time I've felt hopeful about my health in over a year. Acupuncture is working for me. Period. I am so grateful that I found this acupuncturist; If you try Acupuncture, find someone you click with-I think that's really important. I'll post again next month and let you all know if I'm cured yet!
i am so stoked for you betterhalf! that is awesome news... and selfishly gives the rest of us hope. GREAT post. I just did my metal test and should get my results back next week. also see the neurologist next week. I've had an acupunctrurist lined up or a month... i'll see him after the metal test and neurologist. godspeed betterhalf!
I received my Botox treatments for migraines yesterday. Doc says it takes two weeks to a month to know if they are effective. If the dizziness is migraine, then this should help. If not, I am back to square one. Acupuncture is not helping me, unfortunately. Waiting for the results of my ALCAT food, chemical and herb intolerance tests. I am going to see my PCP today to get an appt with an endocrinologist on the advice of my headache neurologist yesterday. Karen
Hi everyone, I've read most of the replies on this topic and don't know if I missed this but has anyone gotten vaccinated (months, up to a year before) symptoms began? Specifically Tdap (Tetanus, Dephtheria, Pertussis) or for Meningococcal? Or didn't get the one for H1N1? Thanks.
