Hi, I had my hyst in Jan 2011, after 10 days i started leaking urine, i went to see my doc who rang the hospital where i had my op, and was called in 2 days later from there i was sent for a body scan at the urology unit and straight away the consultant saw that i had a hole in my right ureter which in his own words was a burn from the heat of the keyhole surgery, i was booked in to have a kidney to bladder stent placed in and it was to be in place for 3 months, ( i must add all this took over 6 weeks to arrange) and in the mean time was wearing adult nappies! was so upset and sad having 4 kiddos to deal with, anyway my stent did the job thank goodness and the hole mended itself, i guess im one of the *lucky* ones, and stent removal is not as bad as stent insertion  my stent removal was one year ago today and i have never looked back :) there is light at the end of the tunnel, so chin girls we are strong women! much love and hugs to you all.

After I developed my fistula it had to be repaired abdominally. Within a day afterwards realized the doctors had also cut my ureter tubes and supposed to of done that dye test during my vaginal hysterectomy. This happened in March 2012, I just went back to work in July

Im sorry to hear your going thru this. I had a robotic hyst last august. Gyn told my husband he knicked my bladder n poss ureter. I went home w a catheter. 5 days later had the cath removed in the doc office n hours later i started having horrible pain in my left side n abdomen. I called the next morning n they told me to come into the office. As i was there i was in serious pain n was given a heat pack and laid on the bed for a while n sent back home. They calld later that evening to see how i was doing and im sure they figured it out by me crying on the phone in pain.. So they had me go a few hours later to the hospital for an ultrasound... And they told me to drink a liter of water... Needless to say i went from radiology to the ER. I couldnt walk i was screaming in pain n everything they gave me wasnt working well at all. Gyny orederd ct n thats when they found that all the blood and urine was dumping into my abdomen. Calld a urologist in and i went for emergency suregery to have the stent put in that nite. The stent remained in me for almost 5 months. In between that time i was in and out out urologist office n hospital with recurrant uti's n ecoli kidney infections. The stent was in place to let the ureter heal but it narrowed. So in jan of this year i had to undergo another major surgery to have my bladder stretched and attached to my back muscle. And the ureter reimplanted on the bladder. That was horrible. I was in the hospital for 7 days. And here it is july 2012 and i have had i think 4 uti's n another baddddd kidney infection n been hospitalized for that. I do have back pain n im still going thru this. My urologist said its not over. He found another small stricture but said fluid still seems to be flowing thru ok so far. I know have reflux which cant be fixed. My bladder is half the size n if i cant make it to a bathroom right away as soon as i get the sensation then the urine backs up my ureter into my kidney causing horrible pain. This is also a breeding ground for bacteria because being that i have reflux the urine goes up n sits in the ureter causing bacteria to grow. There is still a chance i can lose kidney function because of all the damage n dilation it has put on my left kidney. This has been almost a year now n still going. All i can say is good luck

Have them check your ureters and be aggressive my Dr. Is an advocate for the robotic surgery and it just was not an option that I could have been cut however I had a fistula and a severed ureter. Unfortunately I wasn't aggressive enough And went 8 weeks of her repeadetedly trying new antibiotics for a stubborn uti infection that just wouldn't go away. She was insistent the uti was the reason for the incontinence. Once I started having kidney problems I got a referral to a urologist thank goodness a nephrostomy tube and 3 surgeries later I think I am finally on the road to recovery. Just don't let it go too long get to a urologist they will find out what's going on. Hang in there!

On June 14, 2012 I was scheduled to have a Laparoscopic total Hysterectomy, some of the complications was constipation for 11 days and allergic reactions to the pain meds. Finally, on June 25th I was able to have a bowel movement, it all seemed fine until July 2nd, at about 4:00 pm there was a large gush of fluid coming out of my vagina. After calling my Surgeon, they tested me for UTI but it came back negative and the gushes of urine were 24/7. The Doctor that performed the Hysterectomy was not concerned about my situation so I made an appointment with an Uro/Gynecologist on July 11th. He looked into my bladder with a scope and found no damage or leakage. He also filled up my bladder with a blue dye and inserted a tampon to see if there was leakage but this too was negative.

After that, I had 2 CT Scans and these also were negative for leakage. Except my right kidney showed signs of stress. Now I’m seeing an Urologist, which recommended inserting a Ureteral Stent. This procedure was scheduled to be performed on July 27th, 2012 however this too was unsuccessful due to a blockage. They immediately sent me to Holmes Hospital to try to implant the Ureteral Stent through my kidney but this also was unsuccessful due to a blockage. At this time they performed a Right Nephorostomy Tube Placement (to save my right kidney.) The Surgeon’s conclusion was that during the Hysterectomy the right ureter was somehow detached from my bladder.
This next week I will be consulting with 2 urologist that say they can re-attache the urethra to the bladder. I hope you are doing better

I had a laparoscopic hysterectomy 5weeks ago and they did the same thing durning surgery they cut my right ureter. I was leaking urine in my pelvic & abdominal cavity. They implanted a stent which should stay in for 3 months but not even sure if it will heal itself. I am just looking to find some type of light at the end of a very dark tunnel, will life ever be the way it was? I am in so much pain &discomfort all the time that mentally, I'm feel like I am losing my mind. Will things ever get better?

Angie,

I am so sorry to hear that you are going through this.  I had the same thing done to me in March of this year.  Here we are in August and I am awaiting a date to have the ureter re-implanted to my bladder.  I had my 2nd stent done 2 Fridays ago and was told I will have to have surgery again.  My surgery was done at a very reputable NY hospital.  Is it OK that we have to suffer like this?  I had to return to work with the stent, it is very painful. Take one day at a time, Only faith can see us through. This too shall pass.

I been down the same road and yes the reattachment was a successful, recovering now by the grace of God, I thought I would never see this day or feel "normal" again..

Hi Angie, I had a hysterectomy in Sept of 2010 my right uretal was also damaged a month later I had to have a Nephrostomy tube placed to save my right kidney which I had to keep in until Dec 30 2010 at that time I had a right ureteral re-implantation surgery and a stent was placed for 3 month It's alot to go through. Im so sorry that you are going through this and so many others. I had UTI's so many times since surgery I have lost count but for the most part I feel much better than I had been feeling there's also a continuous pain on my right side that seems to never go away but I can handle it most of the time. No UtI's for the last 2 months so far. Ive had more cat scans but the doctors says everything is ok. My life is not the way that it use to be but close, I know longer have my ovaries and went directly into menopause I too felt as if I was losing my mind with everything happening so I told the doctor she prescribed some anxiety meds along with my harmone replacement which I didnt want to take, but I really needed something. Im now beginning to look into something more natural to take rather than the harmone replacement so Im going to try to slowly get myself off of the meds that Im taking but, it certainly helped me because I was at a point where I thought I would lose my job. So, I hope this helps you and anyone else in some kind of way and I pray that you will get better, and feel better soon. I know exactly what you are going through everyone's body is different. Just keep in faith, God Bless!

I need to hear some good news so, did your surgery go well? Hope you are feeling better. I have pretty much the same story as everyone else. My uterer was cut in during my hysterectomy 8/28/12, unsuccessful stent placement due to severe uterer damage and I have a nephrostomy tube until Jan 2013. In Jan they will somehow manipulate my bladder to reach the uterer since it can not be easily reconnected. Life is on hold and no one is held responsible

The 2nd stent did not work, so I had my ureter reimplanted on 8/24/12. Dr said it was 96% succesful. I've returned to work after 5 weeks on MLA. I am beginning to slowly see the light at the end of the tunnel. Did anyone sopke to a lawyer regarding malpractice?
