Hello All,

I too have experienced the burning, itching and brown discharge after having the coil for 8 months. I went to the dr and she didn't seem to know what to suggest and gave me a pessary for thrush and some antibiotics for BV and we also done a swab. At the time i had a feeling it was related to the coil but the dr didnt seem to think so. the pessary seemed to sort me out, however about a week later i bleed for a day and the burning and itching came back. I went back to the dr to see a nurse to discuss my options about birth control etc. I discussed the problems i was having and the nurse and she said it has been known for bacteria to grow on the treads of the coil and this does not show up on the swabs, I would like to add that my swab came back clear. This nurse then removed the coil and i promise you - it was like the itching stopped immediately! and has not been back since!

so my advise to all you ladies if you are having these problems its probably better off having the coil out!

Good luck everyone

Unbeliavable!  Me too!  I also have the Mirena.  I also have 3 kids.  I got the IUD about a year and a 1/2 ago and symptoms started about 6 montsh later.  I have been to the doctor twice and tested for yeast and bacterial inections which were negative both times.  I am using vagisil moisture wash instead of soap and various anti-itch creams.  Nothing helps!  I take plenty of probiotics and yogurt. No help.  I will make an appt. to get this thing removed asap!

I have had the mirena for 4yrs.last year I've had severe hair loss but thought it was due to my thyroids and stress. I have a unbearable increase in appetite I'm always hungry never satisfied. But I also put that with my thyroids. But recently I had my period and it went away after 4 days but me knowing that that's normal with the Iud I didn't think much of it. Well after that maybe a few days ago I seen some light blood the color of blood as ur period is ending but it wasn't much but with that came this bad burning sensation when I pee..... Idk if my mirena came out or is out of place the pain is bad and also it's scheduled to come out August of next year. I have had pelvic pains and weird pains starting from my butt to my stomach I get this pain sometimes in my stomach like air filling my stomach during sex idk if my strings are there I'm afraid to check. I've never checked for the strings since I've had it. Also I have to pee every 20-30mins... That just started when the light blood and burning started.. Any suggestions

I had the mirena put in about a year ago to help with heavy and long periods. After the intitial settling in period of 6 months (gyno's instructions). I still get a period every 28 days (approx) wich is usually much lighter. But lately I have had some heavy bleeding similar to my old periods. I have developed dry and tight vagina with no natural lubrication and I have also lost the ability to climax (which I have always been pretty good at). I bleed after sex and I often have an unpleasent discharge which is assumed to be thrush. Since i had the heavier bleeds i have also been getting weekly boils on my upper thighs or genital area. Although the mrena is in the right place and i have no infection symptoms i can't help but wonder if a low lying infection in my uterus could be causing boils? I'm clean and consciences. I am on weight loss meds as even though i have a healthy diet i am gaining weight and unable to loose it. My hair is thinning on top which is very distressing as I have always had long thick hair. My intimate relationship with my husband, whom i have been with since highschool and have always enjoyed intimacy with, has come to a screaming halt. I have trouble sleeping and am feeling pretty down about the entire thing, i don't think it is working for me. Doctor says i am just unfortunate, Gyno says next option is hysterectomy...... I say let's do it I am over this!! I hope you ladies get some relief soon. PS: I am 39 with 3 beautiful girls (fingers crossed they do not inherit my female plumbing issues!)

Omg ladies I have been going insane for a little over a year because I have been experiencing the most bizarre and painful symptoms. The vaginal itching burning discharge swelling bleeding and even small cuts along my inner and outer labia are brutal. Not to mention the complete disappearance of my libido, painful intercourse and erratic mood swings. This has definitely ruined my sex life and I'm embarrassed to say my bf and I go months without touching each other :-(. I've been in and out of my GYN's office for checking placement, testing for STD's and all I ever got was treatments (ointments) for yeast infections/BV. I went to my GYN a month or so ago to get my iud removed because I knew these symptoms had everything to do with the Mirena and they convinced me it wasn't that and I should try the smaller version, Skyla. I went through the the painful procedure of having the Mirena replaced with the skyla and my symptoms are still here if not worse than before. After reading this today I literally just made an appointment to have this garbage removed this afternoon! I can't take it anymore!

Try desenex for babies. It will help until you can stop what's iterating your skin

I had my copper iud removed 4 weeks ago. For 3 years I suffered almost constantly with BV. I also developed ezcema, weight gain, rashes, problems with my periods. They use to reek havoc the first 3 days which would produce lots of watery discharge and then when I did come on my period I would flood. It was only when I'd had enough of the BV and noticed the discharge I was getting was rusty tinged that I thought my last resort would be to have the IUD removed. Within 2 days all my fanny problems were gone. Also, I've neither had ezcema, I've had my first norms all period and my nominal weight has dropped by half a stone! I believe I could have had copper toxicity. As for remedies to help solve the BV, the best thing I tried aside a Flagyl was Femdophilus. I used to put one in my do-da at night and in the morning the BV would have improved.

If you no longer have insurance you can go through your local health department to see if you qualify through the state for funding to have it removed. Most States have this program. If you qualify in there income guidelines the state will take care of it for you. They have funded programs for this.

I too was having the same symptoms, bad vaginal itching, burning around the vagina and labia minora area. I too was diagnosed with a yeast infection that would not clear up. I tired every OTC medicine and Rx med they have me. Nothing worked. Turns out I was going through an early menopause with the IUD'S hormones. It was so bad that I did go to the ER and they couldn't do anything for me. So I removed the IUD and I almost immediately felt better. It's now two weeks after the removal and my condition is much better. Just be careful and ask your doctor if this is what is happening to you.

I had the Mirena inserted about 4 1\2 months ago. Since then I've not had a period, only irregularly timed dark brownish red discharge. It's uncomfortable, smells bad and generally I have not even wanted to have sex, its so "funky" and the itching is driving me nuts. The itching is not up inside, more "surface"....right where the seam in pants are located, the crotch. I'm not sure I made a good decision...I've been waiting to see if my body would adjust but so far, nope.

I had my Mirena inserted on May 6th this year, because my friend swore by it and she was one of the lucky ones with no side effects. Between insertion and today, I have had a grand total of 19 days where I WASN'T bleeding.

I had headaches and was light sensitive before the Mirena went it, but now it's ridiculous. I can't turn the lights in my bedroom up beyond very dim without being hit with a headache so intense I puke from the pain. I can't leave my home without sunglasses on, even on rainy/overcast days. I finally had enough when I developed a fever this week and went in to a walk in clinic (no gp's available to take me or my daughter in this city). The doctor on staff has put me on antibiotics to treat an infection that has developed because the Mirena has perforated and they can't go in to remove it until they're sure it won't become septic.

This piece of sh*t birth control has managed to ruin my life in four months. If anyone thinking of getting one reads this - DON'T. The side effects aren't worth it!
