I wish I had a success story to tell everyone. Unfortunately I have been pulling my eyelashes out since 1989. That is 20 years!!!! It is a horrible habit that I wish I could break. I tried to wear false eyelashes to cover it up but it is more embarrassing if the false lashes come loose at work. Plus everyone already noticed that I don't have any lashes on my upper lids. It is VERY embarrassing. If others have tried therapy and keeping busy with their hands and it doesn't work, how is there any hope for someone like me? :-(

Yeah that's good to hear! It's actually a form of OCD, so if you ever want to quit doing it for good, be sure to talk to a therapist about it so that you can stop. That's only if you're interested in stopping, though. What do you think?
Ive been pulling my eyelashes out lately.I had alepica a year ago and ever since then my eyelashes are week i used to pull my mascara off and my eyelashes cam with it..I am very ashamed and really want to know how i can grow them back..both eyes do not have many eyelashes at all...im soo embarrassed i have got school in 4 days and really dont want everyone to see.Any idea of how to grow them back faster? Please help! xxx
I have the same problem, I don't what else to do, sometimes I find myself irrated by the whole issue that I don't like to go outside much, go out with friends and family. I started a new job, I am scared people going to notice that I have tiny eyelashes in one eye. This problem has effected me for years. Plucking the eyelashes , I guess relieves some type of stress but at the same leaves you looking weird. You all are not alone. I hope that everyone is able to get healed.
As far as the pulling out of eyebrows goes, I agree it is definitely stress related therefore we have to find ways to work on alleviating the stress. Secondly, I believe it is definitely related to caffeine content. When I have any form of caffeine, be it in coffee, chocolate, headache pills or diet pills - it definitely makes me start pulling out eyebrows. I have gone for long patches of not pulling out eyebrows when I do not have caffeine in any form. This might be of assistance to other suffererers. To help grow the hair back, I find a thick film of olive oil works well however it can only help grow the hairs faster but not stop one pulling them out!
I agree that caffine aggrevates the urge to pull and elevates stress level. I am 56 and have had varying stages of eyelash baldness for the last 15 years due to pulling them out. Mine are very very thin and light and if I can leave them alone, I will some day be able to know what I actually have left. At this age, eyelashes normally thin out so I am dealing with that as well. Eyelashes take the longest of all the hairs on your body to go through their growing cycle. Try not to stress out too much if they do not grow back right away, you may have pulled them out while they were in a resting stage and not a growing stage, causing the time that you see them reappearing to double or more (4 months instead of 2 months). As my eyelashes are growing back, relieved as I am to see them again, they are burning, painful, stubby, straight little daggers that make me want to pull them out again. It's important to get through this stubby period to break the cycle. I tell myself that there will ALWAYS be an eyelash that hurts if you touch them (and even if you don't) DONT TOUCH AT ALL it will get them going. If an eyelash hurts and you are home just watching TV and want to pull it out, get up and take any makeup off (I find that make up removers can be irritating and use old fashioned vaseline) and afterward wash your eyes with baby shampoo then use an eye cup with sterile eye bath solution with boric acid to soothe. After dry, I use a small amount of vaseline for moisture. It doesn't hurt and it removes any possible irritant and cools down the urge considerably. This removes the physical part of the need to pull, the rest is getting past the mental part. Look in the mirror and actually see what you would be losing if you pull, they are growing back!! Pulling as you know doesn't relieve the pain/itching etc. until ALL of the eyelashes in the area are gone. I try to replace the compulsion to pull with the nurturing routine above for my lashes instead. I am making progress however, I regret spending the last 15 years of time where I could have looked reasonably good without my eyelashes. There is hope for all of you young ones to stop and try to turn a bad habit into a good one if you can. I understand that for some cases medication may be necessary, but do something about it. Don't sabotage your beautiful looks while you have them. Best of luck to everyone.
I am appaled at how some of the parents are treating some of these users, its disgusting. Do they think we do this for fun? that it's something so easy to control? I thought I had it bad with my parents. I started when I was around 9 or 10, I am 25 now. My mom doesn't really tell me to stop anymore because she knows that this disorder isn't going away. My Grandma on the other hand will nag about it 8-| But reading about how some of these parents tease or even hit their kids for this? What kind of parent is this?
I had my full grown eyelashes for about 2 months now, but pulled them out just recently. I became really annoyed at how so many of them grew in sideways. I kept telling myself "I'll pull just a few more then that's it!" I stopped halfway, but then pulled out the rest tonight because I was on the phone. I'm so angry at myself and feel so ugly now. I was amazed at how when I had eyelashes they just made my face look brighter and so much prettier. Now I look older and gross. Usually I dont feel like this after I pull them out, simply because I've become used to it since I've done it so long. But now I feel worse about it because I dont exactly attract many men AND I've recently developed some sort of skin condition...I get red inflammed skin under my nose..it has made me look so ugly, add to the fact now that I dont have lashes..makes it even worse.
All I can say is thank God for makeup. Revlon Colorstay eyeliner is my saviour for hiding my lack of eyelashes, it stays on for a really long time. Try it out, I highly recommend it.
Well, best of luck to everyone. Nice to know we aren't alone.

Ah, it’s so good to read that this is common. I've narrowed mine down to stress and tiredness. I'm 19 and up until I was 16 I didn’t really notice it as a problem, as really I didn’t pull hair out properly.
I have never been to a doctor about it as it doesn’t happen all the time. Also the more stories I read the more I can relate and have similar symptoms to others here.
As a child when I was tiered, I twirled the hair at the side of my head to the point where it would knot and break. It’s been extremely thin since then and has never thickened out to the thickness of the rest of my hair. I have recently noticed myself doing this at the back of my head and I’m trying hard not to do it.
When I was 16 I was horrified by myself, when I began physically pulling my eyelashes out in my sleep, this was around the time of my GCSE's. I've been with my partner since before the eyelash incident, and he couldn’t believe it when it happened. I was mortified and as you can imagine, very upset as I had gorgeous long natural lashes. I then began wearing false lashes which is lovely when people comment but it’s a pain. I hate wearing them, and what annoys me more is when people say why do you wear them and I explain, its because I don’t have any, they then tell me its because I wear false ones. It’s extremely annoying. I know why I haven’t got any, I pulled them out!
A friend suggested a herbal remedy for hair growth and another suggested wearing a hat and eye mask to be. I just want my lashes back, thick and long.
Gook luck all and if I find anything, I shall post it.

So sad for you...I just heard about this product and I am sure this will help you. The eyelash conditioner for eyelashes and Revitabrow for the eyebrow from Revitalash. This product was made by an eye doctor for his wife who undergo chemo and been having this kind of problem too. Upon using the product she gained back all of her eyelashes and eyebrow after using it though not an overnight effect but at least it helps and the results was good coz shes having a very thick and long lashes and eyebrow after. Try it and enjoy the wonder of the Revitalash. I am an avid user of their mascara and so satisfied with it.!
