I'm on day three. I have skipped medicine through the night last night and now I am thinking I want to take something. Did anyone's mouth become full of saliva? I feel like I can't stop swallowing
Haha thank you
43 year old male- day 4 after surgery... Honestly it's not as bad as I thought. Some throat pain, combating that with liquid Motrin. Had hydrocodone... But made me feel sick, so I stopped. Eating soft eggs, over cooked rice with spinach and mushrooms. Soup run through a blender... Don't over do the food.... Chew it real well. My biggest issue is the gag reflex from the scabs... Hopefully that's done soon. Hang in there ... Every day is one step closer to being all good again.
I had my tonsillectomy 6 days ago in 3/22/19. So far my worst days were 3 and 4. Swallowing was miserable and that is when the earaches started. But today has been better. I am switching from cold stuff to warm stuff and it has really helped. I ate warm sweet potatoes mashed up last night and it was like swallowing silky pillows. The earaches are a bit worse today but other than that it is getting better!
Advice:
-Drink a lot of water, even though it hurts (if cold water is too much, drunk luke-warm water in small sips)
-Set a timer for your meds and take them exactly as prescribed. Also see the next tip below for an addition to the med schedule.
-Take your narcotic every 4 hours but also take 20ml (400mg) of liquid baby ibuprofen every 6 hours. Start taking them at the same time and then the schedule will sometimes be every-other or back to back because the hours are different. This SAVED me.
-ADD WATER TO YOUR LIQUID PAIN MEDS! My NORCO stung my throat so bad until I filled the rest of the cup up with water.
-If water is too hard to swallow first thing in the morning, spray chloroseptic spray on to your tonsil beds and move your head from side to side to get coverage. I also did this before I took my pain meds.
-Keep an ice pack wrap on your throat and change it every 4 hours when you have a med change. That is the easiest way to remember.

*Oh and I forgot to post my info. I am a female age 29. Tonsils were naturally huge so my scabs are massive.
