If you always use lipstick, why not try a stain?
Lipstick is one of the most common items in every woman's makeup bag - and although they're super easy to use and incredibly versatile, one of the easiest ways to achieve full, beautiful lips is to use a lip stain instead. They don't flake or rub off lips in the same way that lipstick can and you can add just a little bit of stain for a sheer flush of color, or layer it up for a deep, dark, intense color. You can also use them as cheek stains too - a brilliant piece of makeup for every girl's makeup bag!

Classic red lip
The classic red lip is really easy to achieve. You'll need a lip pencil, a lipstick in exactly the same shade and a lip balm or lip coat to keep everything in place. First, blot lips with tissue and add lip balm. Next, draw a line around your lips (don't go outside of the lips as this looks really unnatural), then color in the lips using the lip pencil. Go over the pencil with your lipstick, using a lip brush or your finger to apply, then blot and reapply. Next, apply a lip coat or balm to keep your color in place. Viola!

Cheat's red lip
For a cheat's red lip, you can use a lip stain or a lip balm instead of a lipstick. Rub a sheer red balm over your lips for a really, really easy way to get the look. Or, dab a lip stain onto lips for a worn-in look - alternatively, color lips in using the lip stain for a full-on look. You could also just apply lipstick rather than lip pencil if you're in a rush. Whichever method you choose, make sure that you follow the contours of your lips and be as bold with the color as you dare.

Blurred lip stain
For a blurred, worn-in take on the red lip which looks just as suitable at the office as it does at the bar, use a lip stain. Rub some of the stain onto your finger, then dab it onto lips, concentrating the color at the center of the lips. The key to getting this look right is for it not to be too "done" - no lining your lips and no coloring them in. Instead, the idea is that your lips should look as though you've been nibbling on berries, or, rather naughtily, like you've been kissing for a few hours!

Peachy pink
For an easy to wear look that's just perfect for summer, try peachy pink. It's just pale enough to look natural, but it's bright enough to really show off your lips. A peach pink lipstick with a slight shimmer is perfect - just lovely on the beach. You could also try a lip stain, although they do tend to come in darker berry hues rather than peachy pink hues. Alternatively, try a peachy pink gloss instead - when applying, make sure that you've used a balm underneath. That way, your gloss will last and last rather than rubbing off as soon as you have a drink.

Au naturel
When we talk about going "au naturel", we don't mean that you should forgo makeup altogether. Instead, the idea is to make you look like the best version of yourself, without it looking like you're wearing a full face of makeup. Look for a lipstick, gloss or stain that's just a shade or two darker (or lighter) than your natural lip color and apply it in the same way that we mentioned in previous slides. Because the shade is so close to your natural lip color, it'll look like you're going without makeup - but it'll also make the most of your lips.

Glittery lips
One of the hottest trends this year is for glittery lips. They're full-on - definitely not something you'd wear to the supermarket, but they're a great alternative to smoky eyes if you've got a big night out planned. To begin, you'll need to apply a balm, then a base color - choose whichever base color you like. Next, using a glitter (make sure you choose a glitter suitable for use around the mouth), pat it gently onto your lips, concentrating the glitter towards the center of the lips. Shut your mouth tight, then spritz with a makeup setting spray. Alternatively, use a glittery lipstick if you can find one.

Glossy pink
We've seen candy pink lippy on everyone from Nicki Minaj to Lady Gaga and we have to say, we absolutely love it! It's easy to get the look, too, but just make sure that you're wearing natural makeup elsewhere - a full face of makeup with in-your-face glossy pink lips will look overdone. Use a pale pink lipstick, applying either with your fingertip or with a lip brush, then top with a pale pink lipgloss. Lipglosses that have a sheen to them are best if you want to make this look more wearable, but if you want the full-on look, go for a high shine gloss for high impact.

High gloss
The trend for power color is still going strong for makeup, and the high gloss look is a cool, edgy way to get in on the trend. Apply a base lip color using either a pencil or lipstick, then apply the gloss over the top. Use the wand that comes with the lipgloss instead of your finger so that you don't get into a sticky mess and make sure you choose a high-shine, high-color, high-impact formula. Look for non-sticky and long-lasting glosses so that the color will last all day long.

Don't forget - always seal your color with lipbalm or a lip coat
Whichever lip color trend you choose, make sure that you keep the look in place all day long by using either a makeup setting spray, a lip coat, or a lip balm. There's no use working hard on your lip color only for it to rub off within a few hours of applying it. For lipstick and lipstain colors, you can easily use a lip coat or balm without dulling the color underneath. For brighter, bolder looks that use glitter or lipgloss, use a makeup setting spray instead as it'll add just a little more hold, making sure that your color stays in place all day long.
