My daughter is 4yrs old and also wakes crying during the night saying her vagina is itchy and hurting, it always looks red but I think this maybe from the scratching. When asked if she needs a wee she always replies no but when I eventually persaude her to try she does need to go and once she has the itching seems to stop and she goes back to sleep. Has anyone else noticed that the itching and pain their child suffers improves after urination?
This lady seems to talk a lot of sense- thankyou, you have helped me immensly. My daughter is six and i'm at the end of my tether with this problem, thank god i'm not alone! Thanks for taking the time to tell your story.
Hi there, my daughter has been suffering from this for about five years. She is now eight and I was up again for a couple of hours last night. I find spraying cool water on her vagina as she sits on the toilet helps a littel and drinking a lot of water. An elderly indian doctor told me that it was a form of dehydration. Too much salt in her diet sometimes during the day and as she sleeps she perspires and she becomes slightly dehydrated. I find that if she has salt added to any food, are eats processed meats over a couple of days, she tends to have an episode also she also suffers frequently with constipation and the doctor told me this can aggravate the spasms.
My daughter was up last night scream she was in pain like she has been the last few months. We brought her into our bedroom to comfort her and to give her some calpol and some canasten cream but this did not work. We were begining to get desperate and began searching the internet for answers and thankfully came across this site. All of her symptoms seemed to be the same, waking up about an hour or two after she has been asleep and screaming her privates itch and burn she even made herself bleed once. Last night while my partner was reading up on this site worms were mentioned and I couldn't sleep from the thought of it so I waited untill she flintched in pain I kept looking to see if there were any sign of worms, and thankfully after the third or fourth time she had cramped up with another wave of pain from looking closly we managed to spot a very small white worm which was bearly visable. Using tissue we managed to pull it out and once it was removed she seemed to fall asleep as if she was instantly relieved. Thank you for all your comments and advice. Because of this site we were able to find the problem and we hope for the ones who have not found an answer we hope you find something soon .

???????
what post?
where?
My daughter is 8 now and has suffered the same since she was a baby. Endless trips to the ED, urine tests negative for UTI, renal specialists etc but no answers. I would give her Ural and pain relief as soon as she complained and sometimes it was enough for her to be able to go back to sleep, other times not. I've had countless drs tel l me Ural won't help her, but continued to use anyway because at times our routine did work. This was brushed aside as her obviously faking it, but how can a child keep up such an act for 8 years?!
On our last trip to ED, I was not laughed at for giving Ural, and actually told that we may have finally found what's been going on. It seems that she is highly acidic, and needs to drink much more water than usual-I know, sounds so simple, but it seems to have helped! My daughter was a big water drinker anyway, hardly any juices or soft drink, but it seems it wasn't enough- and the Ural DID help because it reduces acidity.
We are not completely cured, there are times where she does complain, drinking liter after litre can be tiresome at that age, but we just use our routine of Ural and pain relief and haven't had to go back to the ED in quite some time.
Lesson learnt is that drs arnt perfect, but parents need to listen to their gut instinct, and persevere :)
This is the 1st time my 3yr old has ever experienced all the same symptoms as all previous posts, complaining of anal and vaginal discomfort coming in waves and leaving her screaming with pain leaving me to feel almost hopeless. However, looking very closely at the area I saw those dreadded PINWORMS wiggling all round her anus AND inner labia . . . My advice would be do NOT be affraid to take a closer look at your daughters genitals because if I hadn't of paid attention to detail I would have missed those worms as she did not complain of itching at all.
I am not suggesting that every case here is pinworm but it is the most frequent answer, so just take a closer look at ur daughter when she experiences this before those wriggly things get to wriggle away leaving the case as a 'mysyery'!!!!!

I am 18 years old and I have these vaginal pains at night. It wakes me at night but I suffer until it goes away, then I fall back asleep. I have to stand up sometimes for it to go away. I have been experiencing this for years now, and have yet to seek medical attention. My pains usually last for about 4-5 days every 2 weeks. I have no answer for it. I decided to search for an answer and found this, but for 4-12 yr olds. I need help!
Bless bless bless all of you, we had no idea why our daughter was in such pain only at night and I found this web page last night. I dug out the flashlight, and there they were! Yuk, but so so so happy to have the answer! Had been to doc in the morning and been given the 'everything seems worse at night' and canestan prescription. Thank you so much to all the mamas who shared their stories. Now to get the proper medication and a ton of cleaning products! Am gonna make up some strong but aromatherapy-based products so as not to chemically overload the family. Good luck mamas and thanks again!
My 9 yr old daughter has had this for over a year. I was really hoping to find pinworms but didn't. Has anyone checked one time and not seen anything, but found them another time? Looking for help.
Sorry but Sahnoaman's comment about masturbation as young as 2 is actually correct and very common. It may not be a common link between all the girls but it does happen.
Keep going back to the doctors. I did the same with my 6 year old. I was starting to not believe her. Saw the doctor today and she said she has Atrophic Vaginitis, and has given us cream to treat. At last we may be getting somewhere. We are usually sent away with Canestin. Which never helps.
My 5 year old had the same problem. We discovered it was the apple juice she was drinking at supper. When she urinated it would literally burn her skin down there and she would be red and irritated and have a lot of pain.
