I've had this same thing since I was a kid. Maybe once or twice a year I still get it. Horrible, can barley stand up when it's happening, very sharp right in the navel and conected through the penis somehow as well. It feals like a tearing nerve or something, very intense.
I posted this on another site. I hope this answers some questions on this topic...
Ok, I actually have this exact same thing. I'm male also. Here's the deal...
You have a kidney stone. I've had them on / off for the last few years. I had the electrolysis, the catheter more than once, etc. I now have this same sensation as you describe. I believe the nerve that runs to the tip of our penis' also runs near our navel. Thus, that sensation we're having. I have been fighting my on/off mild to moderate pain or discomfort for about six weeks now. I am just about to throw in the towel and go back in for a catheter or whatever they have to do. A catheter doesn't hurt, believe it or not. So, don't fear it. The weird part is that you'll urinate blood for a few days. It doesn't even hurt, it's just weird to see and maybe a mild little burn. I've been taking Advil gel caps (2) and they help remove that pain while they're in your system. I prefer over the counter pain meds as I don't want to get hooked on the heavy pain meds they have been prescribing me for the pain.
So, i'd suggest that you visit a urologist and have them run xrays to see if your kidney stone is stuck or moving. I am guessing it's stuck in your blatter as my sensation that you are describing i'm living with today still is almost six weeks in the making and it's miserable. Not that it's extremely painful but that it's very uncomfortable as it rotates or moves just a tiny bit that's when you feel it.
I hope this has been helpful. It's very unlikely an STD. Like I said, it's the exact situation i'm in and i've been to a urologist a few times over last few years and I can (unfortunately) say that I know what you feel like. On a side note, it is pretty widely known that kidney stones for men are reportedly like a man giving birth is what the ER nurse and doctor have told me. I've been in the ER 4 times in last six months. This sensation that we're experiencing is nothing. Trust me. I've dealt with it for about six weeks. When the pain hits, you'll be in the ER, no joke. I actually was driving myself to ER with my kidney stone and passed out on the highway. Thankfully I pulled over before I started tingling and tunneling vision. I called 911 and passed out they had to use reverse 911 technology to find me. So, be very careful. If the pain is intolerable, do yourself a favor, just go to your doctor for pain meds. Even an ER will give them to you pretty easily because kidney stones,... well... let's face it,... they suck.

I dont agree that its a kidney stone. But, who knows.
I have had this happen to me since I was a young teenager, maybe younger. Just once in a year sometimes once every couple years.
My pain is located directly below my navel/belly button radiates down to my pelvic area but I do not feel any pain in my penis.
Standing makes it worse. Urinating makes it excruciating.
I agree that the fetal position helps relieve the pain.
I started having an episode today.
I googled it and came up with appendicitus. That was scary! I had to remind myself that this has happened MANY times before.
I helped put a trampoline together yesterday. We had to take some piece back off which resulted in some kicking downward on some poles.
This could be due to abdominal muscles.
I don't think there is a cause for panic or worry. As you can see, many other guys have it and this is just 1 forum on the net. No telling how many guys don't even post this issue or even get on the net looking for an answer.
Also, if you get nausea, fever then going to the doctor would be a good idea.

it sucks i used to get it alot and im 15 years old.
what i do is drink some water or sumthing and sit on the computer or go n lay down.
im experianceing the pain rite now and i googled it and it led me to this sit so i think its probably normal or it cud be a hernia cuz ive already had a hernia b4 and they fixed it but i told them about this pain and they said its possible that it cud be many things or just a hernia.
but if anyone figures out what it is post it up.

I too experience this pain several times a year. I have noticed that it happens after I have done some sort of activity that has caused me to sweat for an extended period of time. I wonder if it has something to do with dehydration?
Yeah same boat. I get sharp, specific pain below my belly button every so often and urinating makes it excruciating, yet seems to make it go away faster. I've had it for a few years and this time was so bad that I was clawing at the wall and decided to google it like some of you other guys have done. I'm 16 and male. This time it also did that cord of pain that you guys were talking about. It doesn't seem to be triggered by straining the muscles in the area. It's just random. I'll get it checked out later if it happens again. It's a good feeling to know you're not alone.
I am a 36 year old female who had this happen probably 30 times from the ages 8-18, usually around twice per year. I too, felt an exruciating hook between my bellybutton and urethra, which could only be alleiviated by doubling over or fetal position. Emptying the bladder was the worst, then doubling over didn't even help. My symptoms came out of the blue and lasted 12-15 hours. My parents took me to the er for tests a few times and to our dr., but no one could ever diagnose the problem. I haven't had a full blown episode for years, but have felt the beginning burn/pull sensation. I don't know if this will help anyone else, but i found if I can "catch " it at the very beginning and i press/ not poke right into that sensation at the bellybutton it has gone away. I do not have a ful blown episode.
What brought me here today is that on the way home from swimming my beautiful 4 yr old started saying her tummy hurt. when asked where it hurt she said in her belly button and that it only felt better like this.... feet to chest. I dont want her to go through what I did. Please keep talking!

I find I get these pains occasionally when there is a foreign object in my navel, usually lint from my shirt or hair from my abdomen. By dipping a q-tip in peroxide and gently cleaning out my belly button the pain generally disappears immediately.
I have had the same thing going on for about 15 years.
I am noticing that before an episode I have some belly distention.
I have been trying to notice what foods I am eating before this happens.
This time it was a heavy fruit diet. Aloe Vera straight from the plant is
one thing that helps.

I'm experiencing a shooting pain that starts in my belly button and ends in the tip of my penis. I've had my appendix removed and can tell you that the symptoms are totally different. When my appedix became enflamed, I experienced a extreme pain on the right side of body half away between the belly button and my side. My apprendix pain felt as if I'd been stabbed in my side. I couldn't sit up in bed and couldn't walk upright. Appendicitis typially has a fever accompanying it and doesn't stop until you have it addressed. The pain the belly button is less severe and is centrally located (as opposed to on the side). I think kidney stone is the most likely candidate since the frequency of the pain has increased. I just wanted to share my experience in case anyone was thinking appendicitis. I'm glad this thread is here, I'm going to make an appointment with a Urologist when I return the states.
It also doesn't make sense that it is a kidney stone. This pain just started today. My girlfriend cupped her hand around my belly fat around my belly button and squeezed it into a ball. She went to kiss it and I tried to push my belly out to bounce it against her face. I immediately felt the shooting pain from my belly button down through my penis. In umbilical hernia makes sense -- maybe something to do with the uruchus. I'm going to wait a couple of days and if it still hurts, I'll go to the doctor.
Hope that helps rule out the stone idea.

Hey i am female and get this type of thing maybe once every couple of months. It fels like something is tearing just below my belly button its excruciating but if i don't move for 15 mins or so it goes away... please if any1 knows what it is tell me!!
I too experience this. After going to a couple of MD's I have found that they are bladder spasms. I have cut caffine out of my diet and have found them to go away. Try it and see.
i suffer from this phenomena quite often compared to you who experience this only once or twice a year; i find myself lying down to alleviate the pain from this inconvenience once every few weeks or so. finally i decided to do some googling and see if anyone could help me with the affliction, and found this site. i was a little nervous when people were suggesting a kidney stone, but later posts relieved that pain. someone said something about experiencing this more often after physical activity, and i've noticed that is commonly a precursor to this. this morning i played hockey for around 2 hours, returned home to have this shooting pain. at first it felt like i was just hungry, so i got a sausage biscuit from dunkin donuts, and later an apple fritter when my dad returned with donuts. an hour or 2 later the pain still was there, so i laid down. this could however, be attributed to my awful eating habits- all i ate the night before a strenuous hockey practice was 2 double bacon cheeseburgers, fries, and soda. sooooo i could just be doing this to myself. i dont experience the pain during urination, and the pain tends to fade in a couple hours. usually, drinking water helps.
thats all i got
thats all i got
I'm a 20 year old female and I have the same exact thing... good to know I'm not alone... this is the only site online I can find that talks about it!! I just recently had an episode last saturday night, but now feel some more symptoms of it again today... there is no full blown burning pain when i stretch like usual but i have that uncomfortable feeling in what feels like a cord from the bellybutton to rectum area. this whole thing is so awful, i hope there is some way we can all get rid of it.
