27 YO Male Innie here.

It's REALLY helped to read about others that have this too! Back in late high-school/early college I used to tell doctors about this sense as if a "knife or needle was just shoved in about 1/2 inch to my umbilicus and jabbed straight down into my penis." They've all just looked at me like I was nuts. Maybe a couple times a year or more I'd get this and it'd go away if I just stayed relatively still. I've always freaked out about people poking me in my belly button (an "innie") and damn it if most women in my life didn't also think this was funny and try and do it more because of it! I've had to get red-hot in the face at them and be VERY clear that it was not okay for them to poke my umbilicus and that I considered it a personal violation and it wasn't funny. I suggest to anyone out there to likewise make it clear and let them know that if you get this they can be causing you extreme and serious pain if they don't respect you.

I had my last sensation like this on Saturday for the first time in maybe one year and it was after doing an intense workout and while having a beer following it. I took a lot of punches to the lower abdomen during my martial training and afterward was walking like a 90 year old man, not from the punches or soreness, but because if I moved much I'd get that wonderful stabbing pain.

Stones could be possible for some of you, but usually would cause a bit or lot of pain in the back, particularly if someone was to pat your back with a cup-shaped palm. If you get these pains have someone do that and see if it causes worse symptoms/pain. If you do have a history of stones you may want to talk to an herbalist/acupuncturist about herbs for dissolving stones, which are very effective when properly taken. Some health stores carry "Stone Free" and Golden Flower herbs makes a formula called "Amber Stone Transforming Formula," which is very good. Still, consult a professional, even if this stuff is available to you online/in store!

Urachus conditions are rare and would likely result in a fever or possible infection, as usually what is going on is that the Bladder and Urachus are connected, meaning you literally could have urine/fluids in your lower abdomen. The pain-- I believe-- is more likely from an infection than from something being too tight here, and would not likely be this kind of come-and-go every now-and-then thing that most of us seem to experience.

Things like a Bladder spasm would likely cause a need for you to SUDDENLY urinate, possibly having some urinary incontinence as well. This too may be related to an infection, an acute trauma or surgery that recently happened, etc.

My advice is, to combine the advice of others, stretch regularly, stay hydrated, and take care of your bodies... I hope to God the oral sex thing works too and maybe it'll be covered by insurance some day down the line ! Further, if you have a significant other in your life who thinks this is funny, let them know that the next time they poke you in the belly button, if it causes you pain you're going to pull out an ice pick and go at them with it.... :-S

I believe it has to do with ab exercise, caffeine, and dehydration. Always the combo that triggers it for me.

some of the worst pain ever!

maybe it is dehydration, i bin busy today and got very hot, although i also had some Apple Juice so could it be acid related??? maybe its just random Cystitis??? that goes as quick as it came

hey all

nice to know i'm not alone - but also not nice to know you're all suffering too

i've been getting the belly button to penis pain since i was around 16.. so over 10 years now.
feels like someone's pulling them out of my body and together. it's the GRAB part that stiffens me up, and yep hunchback time and the fetal position generally releases the tension.

however..
i haven't had an episode in a very long time, but got smashed by one this week.

engaged in an awkward sex position saturday night, and was laid out on my stomach using the laptop on my bed on sunday night for a while..
roll on monday, and as i rose from my work chair i got the dreaded GRAB. 'damnit!'.

same thing happened tuesday.

the pain hung around for longer than usual.. i assumed being older and a bit less active than normal it might take some time for it to dissapate..

ended up feeling some indigestion.. the belly button and penis pain had withdrawn, but i was feeling gay about the stomach situation - so i saw a doc about everything on friday who prodded and pushed around and set me up for an ultrasound. also tried to go to the bathroom and strained a bit.. theeeen i urinated later in the night which opened up the pain floodgates which would not budge. the usual fetal position didn't bring any comfort - so i trekked off to the ER with my wonderful partner.

they ran some tests, and couldn't find any kind of infection etc.. so i was sent home to get some imagining done.

it's now saturday and the belly/penis pain is still kicking around and not budging.. really fricking' annoying.

hence why i'm posting here.

i get the feeling this is a muscular/hernia thing as it all generally comes from some kind of straining/awkward movement then the muscles/whatever GRAB - and thus causing the pain..

feels like a hernia to me for some reason.

peace.

also, i have an INNIE.

and i've had some indigestion for the better part of the week.

i had this a couple times. when i would swing my penis/testes from side to side, i would feel it. terrible raw pain i cant quite point out. but yes i feel like its beneath by bellybutton and inside my pelvis/penis. its really hard to point out. does anyone have scholiosis? or some sort of problem that makes their intestines smashed or scrambles by their ribcage? because i do and it might be related to posture.

I have the same. Whenever I urinate It is very painful, starting in my bellybutton then all the way down. I had it for just over a week now and need to know what it is. It is also stabbing pains to my right of my bellybutton and around there just when I am lounging around. Can someone tell me what it is? I am female and between 13-18 years old. It's kinda freaking me out Reading all the stuff about appendix and UTI's and everything. I haven't been to a doctor and I have only told my mom that I have the stabbing pains but nothing about the excruisiating pain when I urinate. Please someone give me a solution other than going to doctor or telling my mom about the pain when I urinate. Please. X

Well... After reading all of these posts on the same exact problem I have had, I used my common sense to come to a safe conclusion in my own mind that the problem is the tightening of a ligament. I rarely drink coffee, and it seems odd that the one day I drink a big heaping cup of it, I experience the tightening in my abdominal region. I am male, eighteen years of age and I have been sitting down for a very elongated duration before standing up and becoming surged with this pain. I believe that dehydration plays a role in this tightening, then the prolonged inactivity in a sitting posture further induced it. Sitting back down, or performing the fetal position does in-fact relax the tension in the area, as I shudder at the idea of using the bathroom at all during this time period.

Your best bet would probably be to drink water and slowly stretch it out. If you choose to stretch it out, I'd suggest being careful about it as you do not want any tearing. Aggressive stretching wouldn't be advised. >_> Perhaps massaging the area would also help decrease the tension? Don't know, though I'm sure someone will try it and post about it eventually.

As ridiculously unintelligent the post was, the person who brought up the idea of finding an eased method of ejaculating presented a very valuable point. As most of you may already know, ejaculation relaxes you mentally and physically. So ejaculation being a cause for this painful "tightening" to subside in the hypothesized ligament, would probably be common sense as it's becoming more relaxed. I can't exactly say I've tested the theory myself, I just drank my water and went about other methods of attempting to relax the area, followed by gradual stretching.

For those that have asked, I am an inny.

26 y/o male, inny

I've had the same problem for the past 10 years or so. Very random...and the pain goes away after an hour or so. From my navel to the head of me penis. Urinating makes it incredibly painful to say the least but it seems to help to alleviate the pain. I lie down in the fetal position and wait lol. It happend about 5 times a year.

So is there no diagnosis. I seem to have similar symptoms except for the burning peeing thank god! (I hope). I knew I've had this pain for a few years but never thought about it seriously until it happened more frequently although the pain is the same. I decided to push my navel area after I had googled for symptoms and realized that I did feel the shooting pain down to my penis.

Are x rays good enough to check for this? If so, did people have resort to blood tests and stool samples?

The thing that scares me is if this is gonna happen for the rest of my life? Will this be even more painful when I'm older? Can this kill you?

So many questions and yet it seems so many people have tested only to find nothing.

I recently started getting these pains, sharp and they go from my bellybutton to my urethra. It happens at various times. I am a 31 year old female. It can start at any time. I get them mostly around the week I am going to get my period. I also have severe episodes right after sex if I don't lay flat. Sometimes nothing helps.
However this is the first time I see spots of blood right after I have an episode. The worst the episode is the large amount of blood...SORRY T.M.I. I think if you stretch before and after any activities and cut the caffeine.
For now I am not to worried. ;-)

I have these same exact symptoms (and have had for 16 years): like a rope pulling from my belly button to the tip of my penis. And urinating is pure pain! I just had another 'episode' yesterday, and today it's fine. Mine always comes from strong physical exertion, or sometimes from being hit/poked in the belly button. The fetal position and just basically walking around slumped over and slow seems to help. If I catch it in time, and start taking it easy immediately, it usually lasts for about 6 hours.

I've been to several doctors and no help???

Im a male and have been getting this same pain since I was a kid. I'm now 29. It's only maybe 4 times a year on average. It lasts anywhere from 10 min to an hour or so. I've just learned to live with it. But I would love to know what causes it. Many times it happened just as I woke up in the morning.
