I have a severe allergic reaction to eating chicken meat and have not eaten chicken for many years. My symptoms have included: passing out, vomiting, diarrhea, swollen throat, trouble breathing, severe headache starting a base of skull and being unwell for a few days after the event. Even though I am very careful to avoid chicken meat, I have unfortunately come in contact with food that has been prepared on the same surface as chicken (kitchen bench, pan, grill, deep fryers etc). Chicken stock in sauces has been a real problem, as it is not recognised by waiters, cooks or chefs as containing chicken when you let them know that you are allergic to chicken meat. Most chefs take care to cook my food in a separate pan. If I get a negative attitude from them, I refuse to eat there. My husband has found me passed out and wedged between our toilet and bath tub twice and has to try and get me to regain consciousness. I know carry strong antihistamine everywhere I go just in case. Be aware not to drive though. However, if you are anything like me, you certainly would not be in a state to drive. Last week, my doctor has suggested that in future I am to call an ambulance after having another episode after dining out. I did speak with the head waiter, but somehow I managed eat something that was contaminated. Not hard when to do when it is a smorgasbord. Sauce perhaps? I have made a decision to not consume any sauces in future.

I have been allergic to Chiken since the age of three. I stated as a rash. It later turned into tightening of the throat and extreme fatuige. Does anyone else have problems with beans? Lately I have had the same symptoms with certain types of beans. I was curious if I am the only one

I totally understand. My fiance is allergic to ALL fowl. He had his first allergic reaction at the age of 6. He did not eat any chicken or fowl for the next year. After he turned 7 his mother called his pediatrician to ask if he could have turkey for Thanksgiving dinner. My fiance almost died that night at the age of 7!! He has not had chicken since. Please do not try to re-introduce poultry to your child. It truly could be fatal. There is also a genetic test you can have run that can tell if there is a missing part of a chromosome that is causing this allergy. Chris ( my fiance ) had this done 7 years ago. It confirmed a mutation in a chromosome that was causing this allergy along with his inability to have children. This was found by his infertility doctor. I'm not saying that your son has the exact same thing as Chris. I am saying that I want you to be aware that this could be more of a problem than just an allergy.

P.S. My fiance asked my to write this reply. I was a little hesitant but he has been through so much that he wanted you to be very careful with your son.

God bless you and your family!

I too have had reactions from eating chicken. I first noticed it years ago when after eating, the palms of my hands would itch something terrible. After a little investigation, I determined it was chicken. I also would get strong stomach pain. This was pain like you have with severe menstrual pain. I felt just terrible!
People do look at you like you are crazy when you tell them you can't eat chicken or anything cooked with chicken. I miss out on a lot of chicken stews and eating wings with friends. Sometimes I crave wings so much I will take the chance on eating them and suffering the consequences.
I also have you d I get the same pain from eating bananas. Don't know what the two have in common, it's just weird!
I feel for anyone who has this reaction..

My daughter tested positive for chicken allergy 5 years ago. Learned the hard way. She is now 16 and allergic to chicken, turkey, codfish, tuna fish and eggs. Switched our whole menu around. I don't keep anything in the house containing what she's allergic to. I get anxiety just thinking about eating at restaurants due to cross contamination. Her allergist said she is at a higher risk of a new allergy added at least yearly ...

I now need an epi pen im highly allergic to chicken turkey duck i can eat eggs thou.
I can not eat at bbqs if chicken has been cooked on bbq even once its been cleaned. In restaurants i have to ask for my meat to be cooked in a clean pan and avoid most take away places. I once ordered a ham and cheese pizza and ended ip in hospital as there must have been chicken either cooked close by or same gloves used to do different pizzas. In my case there is nothing i can do except avoid at all costs. I tried organic chicken about 10 years ago i got 3 bites into it before reaction hit in. Its not a common allergy people are always surprised when i tell them and no one really understands just how deadly it can be (in my case anyways)

I too am allergic to chicken meat *and* bananas. However, I can eat eggs and turkey bacon. Am also allergic to strawberries and "fresh" pineapple but not the pineapple pieces found in jarred fruit cocktail...strange. I can eat organic bananas that are bright yellow with ZERO brown spots and still have slightly green skin. We suspect my allergic reaction to bananas is related to the increased amounts of naturally occurring sugars as the fruit ripens.

I have that allergy too. I cant eat any chicken/turkey at all. My throat gets itchy and mouth waters...then I throw it up. I have to read ingredients on things to make sure there isn't any chicken/turkey products snuck in there. I cant get flu shots either because they are a chicken based shot. Makes me super sick. Dr told me if I was THAT allergic to it, theres nothing that can be done about it I just have to avoid it.

The only answer is to completely avoid chicken. I discovered my chicken allergy in my 20's during allergy tests for other things. On a whim I asked my doctor to test for foods that I ate frequently and came back with a 3+ on chicken- it's the only food I'm allergic to. For those of you who haven't had allergy tests you're scored from 0 (no reaction) to 4 (severe reaction) so 3+ is pretty serious. If I eat chicken my throat closes up and I cough for hours. I carry a rescue inhaler everywhere I go in case I somehow ingest chicken accidentally. I got a vaccine that was from an incubated egg and had such a severe reaction my arm swelled up for 2 weeks.
For the most part I have successfully avoided chicken for the last 25 years but totally understand how limiting it is to eat out. I will only eat a steak and baked potato unless I know the person cooking the food understands the problem. Most people think you're nuts and don't take you seriously. Sauces, soups, totally out of the question. Even veggies are often cooked in chicken broth to enhance the flavor. Mashed potatoes- chicken broth is often mixed in. Chinese food- forget it. Fried food - forget it, chicken fried in the oil transfers to other foods.
I mostly eat at home and make my own turkey stock for all gravies and sauces. I also use vegetable stock. There's also textured vegetable protein that tastes like chicken that I use a lot. It's a very frustrating allergy but I've become a very good cook and even make my own Chinese food because I have had no choice. If you have this allergy you absolutely must not eat chicken or it will get worse and you may become allergic to related things- like eggs and other poultry.
Good luck to all of us.
