Until recently I have been fine, but the other week I took out some chicken breast to cut up for a stir fry and as soon as I touched the meat they began to itch unbearably and go bright red and I had to wash them straight away. After doing this and waiting a few minutes they started to feel a bit better . This happens now every time I touch raw chicken. I have no idea what is causing it as its fine once its cooked for me to eat and touch. Any ideas??
I discovered I was allergic to eating chicken from and acupuncturist. She saw that around my ankles, I had several bumps that resembled skin on chicken feet. She stated, "You eat too much chicken during my first visit." I was going to her for help with incontinency problems during exercise. I took her advice and stopped eating chicken. Guess what, the bumps on my ankles went away. In addition, the incontinence during exercise reduce dramatically. Every once in awhile, I eat chicken as a last resort. When I do, the incontinence occurs again. Now that the FDA has mandated no antibiotics in chicken, I thought it would make a difference. It doesn't. So, I just avoid the nasty bird. It is a filthy animal anyway. If you ever toured a processing facility, you'd never want to eat it again! I grew up on a farm where we butchered our own meat. I nearly gagged while touring a chicken plant. The feather drying room made me gag! I can still smell that room, if I close my eyes and that was over 20 years ago. Also, my allergy to eating chicken occurred after bearing my first child (hormone changes) and returning from Desert Storm (environmental hazards). I hope this helps others understand that symptoms aren't always extreme.
I cannot eat white meat poultry. If I do within 45 minutes I throw up. For the first 25 years of my life I was convinced that this was an allergy to all fowl, so I didn't eat any of it. And trust me, it isn't easy as a kid to tell your friend's mom that you can't eat the dinner she prepared because you don't want to get sick.
Then my wife, thinking along the same lines as you probably are, insisted that I try it. We started with drumsticks... I loved them and no problems. Within a little while we had worked up to chicken breast, within 45 minutes I was vomiting. I looked it up and apparently there is a protein that is more prevalent in the white meat that a small percentage of people cannot digest (think really bad lactose intolerance). To this day I can enjoy thighs or drumsticks. I can also have a wing or two if I am eating them with other food. But if I overdo the amount of white meat I eat, I will be praying to the porcelain gods like clock work.

I just started to look into my chicken Allergy. I came across this web site thought I would comment on this thread. I have a sever chicken allergy. When I eat chicken my vocal tic acts up and my muscles seize up. This has gone on for years. I thought that it was the way life is. It is starting to get worse, to point of touch chicken with my bare hands, causes my body to react.
But allergies to chicken is real even though it may be rare.

Over the past couple of years I have been having issues with eating chicken, one of my favorite dishes. When I try it, my ears itch, my young and throat feel numb and its is as thought my stomach closes and I get a sharp pain in my mid back. Lasts for a few hours. It's so odd; I am not sure what if anything can be done. Sometimes I get a mild reaction to lamb as well. Thought it was the hormones in the chicken, went 100% organic and it was not any better. What can be done?!?!
Yes. Severe pain in middle of back or spine area. Itchy ears. Lasts a few hours. It's terrible.
I too am allergic to Levaquin and was googling whether the chicken I eat may be raised with it and causing me problems.
Hello fellow chicken/fowl allergient friends..lol... I've been allergic to turkey, chicken, eggs, any feathered animal meat really. I will get hives, throat swells closed, get a red rash that is itchy/ burning from head to toe have been known to swelled up also not any fun at all. I stupidly tried to get my body to except the meat but it never worked for me unfortunately I love chicken and turkey so I'd suffer 1 or 2 times a year and have a couple bites... Never again though after the last nibbles on some turkey within 20 minutes my skin was on fire itching burning I turned bright red and my throat was almost swollen shut felt like an elephant was on my chest ..never had I been so scared I was alone and couldn't find the epi pen. 6 benadryl did nothing help came 2 hour's into it finally. Personally myself I'll never push the allergy ...hey I'll never have to worry about bird flu ..lol. Grateful it's not a beef allergy especially living in Texas...Most people laugh when tell them about it we are a rare breed a special select class of our own ..
yesterday I had lemon herb chicken and came out in a rash. took a piriton during the night now OK
My reactions are similiar to a peanut reaction. I start with anphyitic shock where my lip swells, then starts to close my throat and start having breathing issues.
i am also allergic to poultry and eggs. it started with eczema on the palms of my hands and keeps getting worse since I've had a hard time avoiding it. it seems to be hidden in everything even in face masks and snickers bars (the nougat) . now my mouth swells and i get hives on my tongue. nobody ever believes me which is the worst part they just think i'm a picky vegetarian.... i wasn't always allergic either it was all of a sudden 27 yrs old and i developed a poultry allergy and perfume allergy.
I'm glad I found this site, I have been racking my brain and been tested twice along with blood tests. I have severe reaction when I eat chicken, originally I thought it was the MSG in the soups and things I was eating. I get swollen lips, tongue, chin, hands or feet. Sometimes I get huge itchy hives. Also get bloated, heart palpatations... its awful. Im going to try and cut checiken and see if it helps!!! After thanksgiving I had swollen chin! I hope I have finally found what it is!
For the past year or so every time I eat chicken,my fingers tinle and I start to itch. it starts in my hands and have been progressing up my arms. I can eat fish, beef, shrimp, but not canned tuna. It happens with the canned tuna as well. So I was cleaning out my freezer and found some chicken breast. I made a soup with veg broth and veggies, and guess what: I started itching before I finished a bowl. So tonight I will make the turkey rib meat and see what happens.
