Chicken allergies are totally real, as I have it myself. I tend to distance my way from eating anything at parties until I'm able to ask the host what's in it(I'm the one who checks the box because people can easily skip over it). So far there is no cure and no way in helping it. I've lived with it for 6 years now and just recently has it really been tearing me down.

I found out I was allergic to chicken(as well as all seafood and turkey) when I was 8. Before that I would chicken, not technically on a regular basis, but my mom put chicken stock in about everything that needed stock in it. I would always get sick and have to lay down until the it went away or I eventually fell asleep. It wasn't until I was on vacation where I was eating seafood everyday where I got an allergic reaction to my moms fish sandwich. The plane ride home was absolutely horrible due to my then weak immune system. I immediately went to an allergist when I got back and my mom made me get tested for all the foods I would normally get nauseas after eating. I've completely cut out chicken, turkey and seafood from my diet(even though last year I was told I could eat finned fish, but no shellfish). I don't carry my epi-pen around with me like I should because my symptoms are so bad I could die from eating it. After living with it for 6 years, I'm starting to feel down about myself because of it. I see all my friends eating chicken tenders and chicken wing dip and somethings that all they have to eat at a party, leaving me to snack on the chips to whole time. I also don't get to see what the whole rave of chicken wing dip is. Another instance was today(January 5th, 2016) I went to the Panda Express that just recently opened up. I love Chinese food(The vegetarian stuff of course) and my mom came with me to ask if anything happened to be in the food. Turns out the put chicken in their rice and I left the place without getting anything.

At 22 I became lactose intolerant so I stayed away from dairy products since then and now that I'm 26 I recently developed chicken allergy almost 6 months ago. It's so frustrating! I love chicken. At first, I would get hives on my arms and legs within 24hours And I would just sleep it off then it'll be gone overnight. After a month of being stubborn and still eating chicken, I'd get the allergic reaction in between 8-12hours. I would get hives all over my body. By then I had to take Benadryl or Claritin just to stop the itching all over my body. I stopped eating chicken for almost 2weeks and I tried again. A plain fried chicken caused me to have hives all over my body in less than an hour.I was in denial for a while that I had chicken allergy and would seldom wait to have hives before I took anti allergy pills but now I just stopped eating chicken to avoid any allergies and would always carry Claritin with me coz sometimes I accidentally eat food with chicken broth in it. Only my family and some friends believe I have chicken allergy coz they've seen me with hives after eating chicken but people in restaurants or fast foods just give me a weird look as if I'm creating my own allergy. I miss chicken a lot but I'd rather not eat it than get hives. This time I'm scared of developing further allergies specially with eggs and seafood. I recently had hives after eating mixed seafood with coconut milk so I don't really which specific seafood caused it but is there anyone out there who developed further allergies to anything after the other?

You mention in your post you are bothered by avocados and melon. I am as well, in addition to kiwi fruit and stone fruits (peaches, apricots, plums, cherries, nectarines). I learned I am allergic to these foods because for whatever reason they have something in common with latex. If you have latex allergy you also can have food allergies. The foods most likely to cause this problem include: apple, avocado, banana, carrot, celery, chestnut, kiwi, melons, papaya, raw potato and tomato. The only foods I can eat from this list without symptoms are apples, and celery. I learned this information from my Allergist Physician.

I feel I am allergic to chicken, turkey, anything with feathers, I have a reaction usually the next day after eating. I don't eat eggs hardly ever either.

I am also allergic to chicken and bananas. All fish, too, and soy for added discomfort and inconvenience. I sympathize with everyone who has any allergy at all!

Mine came on in my early 20's. It's harder than people realize. Even meat like pepporoni on frozen pizza contain chicken. Some seafood dishes are prepared with chicken stock know also. I always ask and get looked at like I have 2 heads.

Hello, I am from Eastenr Europe and believe me, here NO ONE will take you seriously if you claim, that you are allergic to chicken meat. I've been allergic all my life. The symptoms I have a pretty much what other people say - it beggins with itching on my lip, in my throat, my lip starts swelling, then I start suffocating and then they come - stomack and lower back cramps. I often have to vomit, but not always. It's really painful experience. I have to notice that I am not allergic to eggs or feathers, nor to bannanas or other fruits, but I am allergic to all kinds of fish. 30-40 min after eating fish meat, I start to feel unease and things usually end up with diarhea.
Stay strong and share the word. It's really hard to live without chicken these days, since everyone started to promote "white meat" and it's basically the most important ingredient of most menus.

My 8yr old son is allergic to chicken. It came on gradually over several years, after meals he would get sick or a rash. We cut out all sorts of things thinking it was the cause but then one night after eating a drumstick he was sick and then said he wanted to run outside in the rain. I thought he was just messing about as he'd not eaten anything he could possibly be allergic to?! When I got him to sit down I was horrified to see his face had become red and swollen - he wanted to be outside so the rain would cool his skin. I quickly gave him antihistamine and put him in the car but by then he had hives all over his body, his eyes had swollen shut, he was drooling and retching and wheezing. I rushed him to the hospital (we are in the UK) where he was treated with antihistamines but it took a few days for his voice to recover as his throat was so swollen. I insisted on allergy testing but they were reluctant as there's 'no such thing as a chicken allergy'. I insisted and he was admitted for a food challenge. When a piece of chicken breast touched his lip it immediately began to swell and his throat was itchy - everyone - in the allergy clinic mind! - was amazed this was possible. Further tests showed he is also allergic to turkey and we were advised to avoid duck just in case. He had no other allergies, eggs etc, and he even reacted to organic chicken meat raised from an egg by my father so yes it is a real thing. He carries an epi-pen at all times as it's a life threatening condition. He's reacted to chicken flavoured crisps and stock cubes but thankfully he realised immediately and antihistamine medication stopped it, although he felt rough poor kid. Tesco chicken noodles are ok tho - I doubt there's much chicken in them! So yes its real, yes it's serious, yes it can progress rapidly and no, I have no idea why. Oh, but avoid hotdogs too as they're often full of chicken too!

I developed such a severe allergic reaction to chicken in the late 1980s that my doctor told me if I ever ate it again it could kill me. It is an extremely difficult allergy to live with, especially since my husband eats kosher and refuses to eat vegetarian. My own mother suggested that I try range-free chicken"just to see what happens." The problem now has been compounded as I have aged and am having to watch my cholesterol. As a child I was allergic to fish, so I try not to overload on that now. I originally was able to eat turkey, but over the years it started to give me digestive upset, so I fear I'm developing an aversion to it as well.If it is as severe an allergy as I have, the only approach is avoidance of any food related to chicken, i.e. meat or broth. One especially needs to be watchful about prepared rice dishes, and I have found many prepared foods in grocery stores that contain chicken fat instead of margarine, oil, etc.

Great thread! I have been bothered on and off over the years from chicken, but always thought it was my "imagination." It bothers me more when I roast or stew a chicken with bones and skin. I thought maybe it was just that I needed to eat pasture raised local organic chicken and not commercially produced chicken. that seems to help. I have seemed to tolerate breasts ok.

But yesterday I made chicken stock and a lovely summer veggie and squash soup. I ate some last night and didn't feel great. I just had some for lunch, and didn't even finish the bowl. I get horrible heartburn and indigestion and just feel generally "weird." Finally I googled and found this. I recently discovered dairy bothers me too.

Maybe I need to be aware of how I respond to other meats. maybe I need to become vegetarian.
